re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
I am really surprised to see so many of you active on this thread. So let me ask you Guru's for some knowledge. I am planning for a ride to Nagaland in November, and after reading this thread came across two more options for boots. The JCB and the Puma one, i was in fact wanting to go today to buy the RE long boots which are for 6.5K approx. However the Puma one has caught my eye and would mostly wait to check it out. Has anyone got any info on the Puma boots? Please share. Just by looking at the picture i am thinking it wont be much help in the winter in Nagaland, However the RE boots look more suitable for winter, what do you think?

Last time i checked he did not have my size available. Even on his website he only has two options 39 & 40 which is small for me.
I would have chosen R Jays over RE any time because when i tried the RE boots, they were looking too bulky as if i was a cyborg. And it would mostly take a long time to break in.
R Jays is a known brand who specializes in making riding gear whereas RE is newbie in the market.
However i am considering R jays riding pants. Do you know if that's any good?
Thanks for the reply Dark Knight

Puma boots are new in the Indian arena, it's just got its uptick and now slowly heating up the game. But you can Google it for reviews internationally, which is more or less unbiased and downright user based reviews. Check this link out.Originally posted by White Knight View PostI am really surprised to see so many of you active on this thread. So let me ask you Guru's for some knowledge. And no matter how high-tech a boot is, to an extent a boot can be water-resistant but not fully 100% water proof unless it's fully made of a non-breathable element. If you really are concerned aboutr water-proofing abilities, get yourself a gaiter, which are really good, as basically they are nothing but a nylon pull over cover for your boots.
But the water-resistance that modern boots offer are more than enough to keep your feet dry even if you happen to dunk your foot in a puddle.
Being used the RJays pants, it's been exactly four years since I bought my pant, it's seen worse right from taking a fall, and it is still going strong. Mean while, the Rjays has refreshed their older pant design to a new one, which is really a nice move by RJays and will appeal to most of the folks out there.Originally posted by White Knight View PostLast time i checked he did not have my size available. Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Thanks for this. I have my eyes on Achilles since quite some now. Its either Achilles or Helios. Hopefully I'll pick it up by early next month.Originally posted by Sunnyside_up! View PostTechnically, you are correct. An all Cordura jacket would be sturdier than a combo as Cordura has higher abrasion resistance than mesh. Actually, leather would offer the best abrasion protection. Real world applications however show that most riders find an all Cordura or even leather jacket extremely uncomfortable in our hot and humid climate and hence are likely to not wear it as much as a highly vented mesh combination and in such case would not have any protection at all in case of a fall when not wearing it due to the heat. Hence the popularity of mesh, which is very comfortable to wear and hence more likely to be worn regularly. In your case, since you have already been using an all Cordura, you may be okay with the lack of breathability and restricted ventilation. If that be the case and you're looking at an upgrade, have a look at the SPG ACHILLES too which is an all Cordura jacket with vents and comes with most of the same features offered by the HELIOS.

re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
guys.. the thermal liners that come with riding jackets, are they any good in keeping us warm..? i know riding jackets are not for this, but still, if the liners could help to a certain extent..
as i would be asking money from home for a jacket for winters next month and would be using that to buy a riding jacket..and so i can't go chilling out and get spanked for not buying a 'warm' jacket..
(not been able to convince them to let me buy one
)
Ride safe and have fun.

My Cramster Breezer 4.0 came along with a Warm liner. Though Mumbai is summer all the 12 months for me. I think you cannot Bare Delhi / Jaipur Peak Winter time with just this Liner. You have to wear something inside to keep yourself warm.Originally posted by nadz11.ns View Postguys.. the thermal liners that come with riding jackets, are they any good in keeping us warm..? i know riding jackets are not for this, but still, if the liners could help to a certain extent..

The thick codura jacket + liner might save you from starting winters and even keep you a bit warm when used with some other sweater, thermal wear.First I was Scared But then We Made a Deal

If you wear a Thermal Wear (thermocot or something) and then your normal Shirt / Tee.Originally posted by nadz11.ns View Postok.. thanks for the first hand exp..

and then your riding jacket along with Thermal liner for biking purpose then yes it will help.
But wait !
You said you're gonna ask money from parents for a Winter jacket & gonna buy this.
Seriously a wise and good decision.
But bro, you could the riding jacket for Bike only. Anything other than riding Bike, and you'll look a stupid astronaut roaming in streets or with your Gf
So keep this in mind. !First I was Scared But then We Made a Deal

re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
Last Year me and a fellow rider were on a ride from Mumbai to Waga Border via Delhi. We rode all the way and were mostly doing night rides. I had a DSG and my friend had a Cramster Breezer. Both of us were wearing more then 4 layers including the Jacket but they were no good. We started freezing after Udaypur. The only savior was news paper in our torso as well as legs. Conditions were just getting more worse as we were going north. And surprisingly when we reached Delhi my cousins were of the opinion that it was more cold last month. We had left on the 26th Of Jan and by then even though we were shivering they were happy that the worst was over.Originally posted by prateek2210 View PostHave experiemce with Cramster Breezer, a warm inner, a tee and the jacket with liner is suffice for Delhi's peak winter.
So what i am saying is, every individual has different tolerance to cold and one should prepare accordingly. Making Sure there is no body heat getting dispersed is the key and a proper winter riding Jacket would help tremendously.

I have seen people reporting that the Cramster Breezer Winter Liner was good enough for getting Leh'd. Though I am yet to have a personal experience with the winter liner from SPG. Take a look here too DSG Nero Jacket - 6,499.00Rs
In case you buy a Riding Jacket in place of a winter jacket to walk in the malls trust me your shoulders will look like those of hulk
. And that therefore looks way too contagious to pretty beings
who shop till they drop at the malls.

Well I should morally report after around two-three weeks of using the SPG Perseus which I will do. But for now let me tell you bikers that it is so disguised in shape that I can wear it to any place without seeking much attention. Other than riding my bike, I have taken it to the bargaining scene at the vegetable market, it was on while I was bowing down on my knee before the almighty at a temple etc etc. But I think it has a flaw or break in period. Will report after a week if it exists.
Warm Regards,
Pranav
