re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
I think VJ either confused himself or didn't voice his thoughts clearly. Cowhide is definitely the superior when it comes to making tough, abrasion resistant motorcycle garments. Goat-hide is preferred for fashion garments since they are lighter, more supple and easier to work with. However, they are not as hardy as cow-hide. Beware though that the majority of cow-hide leather garments made in India are made of split leather, which is essentially the lower, coarser residual part of the hide after the premium top grain has been scraped off. - and is also significantly cheaper. Split leather is coarser and more flimsy but quite suitable for garments. The real difference between split leather and top grain leather will be visible to the lay-person after the jacket ages awhile. Depending on use, the split cow-hide leather will become stiff, develop cracks, etc., while genuine top grain leather wears in well and becomes better with use.Originally posted by bbsrailfan View Post

Ive shortlisted 2... one from sol and another from dsg. . For me, am pretty impressed wit SOL... i like my helmet... it totally enhances the riding experience...
So, my doubt is - can i go wit sol or dsg.

Both the jackets you mentioned are very good. For me Spartan Helios holds an upper edge because of Knox armours at shoulder and elbows. Also the back armour of Spartan is thicker than that in DSG.Originally posted by danielmanickaraj View PostI hav a Cbr 150r (green).. helmet - sol... planning to buy riding gear..

That being said the armour in both of them are CE l1 certifieted. One thing to keep in mind would be the climate in which you intend to wear the jacket. Helios has a lot better air-flow compared to Nero as Helios is a mesh type and Nero has a full cordura construction. In a humid weather such as there in Chennai, you would be sweating a lot wearing Nero than Spartan. As far as wet weather is concerned, I haven't tested Spartan in heavy rains, but, light to medium rain doesn't affect it. I have a DSG Triton, primarly a winter jacket, which can stand a heavy downpour without letting any water inside. I think neither Nero or Spartan would be as good as Triton in heavy rain because they are not meant to be waterproof. Hope this helps

Why not Spartan gear itselfOriginally posted by danielmanickaraj View PostI hav a Cbr 150r (green).. helmet - sol... planning to buy riding gear..

@B7ACKTHORN I can't figure out what this part this. Is it just the design or something else, like to attach gloves?

I think he was referring to Spartan Progear jacket and mistakenly wrote SOL as SOL is only one of the Helmet brands being imported by Spartan.Originally posted by aditya_iyer View PostWhy not Spartan gear itself

Yup, the link goes to Spartan Helios. He probably got it mixed up. Anyway, if the choice is between Nero & Helios, I would go with Helios considering it's features & reviews from people on XBHP that show it's better, though Nero is capable of holding it on it's own. So I recommend read the reviews posted in this thread ( use the search feature ) & get a good close look if possible before deciding to buy. Also please check size before buying though Sunnysideup sir & the Spartan team will be happy to help if any doubts arisesOriginally posted by AmitRavi07 View PostI think he was referring to Spartan Progear jacket and mistakenly wrote SOL as SOL is only one of the Helmet brands being imported by Spartan.

re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
Hey guys, I'm new to this forum!! I have a P220fi clocked around 1L kms, though I rarely used him for touring(I love roads but thought never thought about travelling in two wheels). Saw a gang of bikers while driving from Chennai to Pune fully geared and looking at them incited a fire in me to start touring in bike. So the next thing I booked my dream bike for a long time, a RE TB350 (My 220 was getting a bit old for all the action). So the next is riding gears. Man' oh man looking Those guys in full riding gears , still gives me the high. After reading the posts here i've finally stripped down to
SPG Hyperion Jackets
AVG MLG (RE made).
I have a few doubts .
I sweat very badly and i live in chennai. Does Hyperion provide enough air flow with the leathers all?
My fingers are pretty long compared to my palm so can you suggest me a full gauntlet gloves?
I have a trusted Timberland boots. I hope it gives enough protection or should i invest in a separate riding boots?
Thank you..
PS. I always tend to use more words than required so sorry if i've gone out of context !

Universal : Riding Gears Thread
Hello guys, right now i'm using spartan centaur gloves for touring & commuting.
I'm planning on getting another pair for touring alone(a pair of gauntlet gloves) from USA through my cousin who'll be visiting India next month.
My budget is $120(max.), can someone give suggestions on which one to buy?
I'm currently looking at,
AGV Sport Raptor
Joe Rocket GPX 2.0
Alpinestars SP-2
Alpinestars New SP-2
REV'IT! RSR(overshoots budget by a slight margin)
Speed and Strength Lock and Load Gloves
AGV Sport GPR(overshoots budget by a slight margin)
Balaclava Query:
I was about to get a spartan balaclava but then came across the zeus one.
ZEUS COOLMAX HEAT RESISTANT BALACLAVAS
Is anyone using them? How do they fare compared to the spartan balaclava?
Re-posting here:
I've been using spartan centaur gloves for a couple of months now & it has accumulated salt deposits on the stitches/joints. So has anyone ever washed their leather gloves? machine wash or hand wash preferred?
Also I'm about to wash the SOL metalman helmet's cushion pads. machine wash or hand wash preferred?
Update: managed to remove the top cushion.

And unbuttoned the cheek pads.

But couldn't figure how to remove it.

re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
It's good that you have taken the initiative regarding safety gear for riding & touring plus Congratulations on your purchase, now back to your queries - As far the reviews are concerned from members using the jacket, it should have pretty good ventilation that I am sure, as an Chennaite, Sunnysideup sir might have checked & ensured though owners will give better judgement & regarding Riding shoes then yes, most shoes like JCB, Quechua & Woodland may not protect as well as Riding boots since they are not made to prevent injuries to Heel & Ankle positions in riding, something i realized when i had an accident on Woodland boots which kinda fell off my feet but luckily I wasn't hurt therefore atleast invest in a good shoe that protects & supports your toes, heel & ankle . For Gauntlet gloves, i remember a similar query, so try searching in this thread.tcOriginally posted by srj.dvy View PostHey guys, I'm new to this forum!! Hyperion allows sufficient air flow to resist sweat.Originally posted by srj.dvy View PostI sweat very badly and i live in chennai. Does Hyperion provide enough air flow with the leathers all?

While waiting at signals and in stop n go traffic you'll sweat(I guess with every jacket you'll feel the same).
For full gauntlet gloves, you can checkout Spartan experience store at ECR for spartan ares and velavan motors for cramster and rynox products.
