Re: Universal : Riding Gears Thread-Rynox tornado pro Vs ASPIDA - Helios
Hey Guys,
Planning for my first jacket.
1. Am i right in assuming that in armour Knox is better just CE (EN-1621- Level 1).
I am deciding between the Rynox tornado pro Vs ASPIDA - Helios. both are just below 7K
2..Main difference I find on paper is back armour Tornado pro has CE approved while Helios has Dual density armor.Does not mention CE rated.
I am planning to try out both but some inputs are highly appreciated.
Defender -Solace also looks good on paper with all CE approved armour but cant try out in my city.am i right in just comparing the keywords-knox,CE (EN-1621- Level 1) at elbows, shoulder, back
Of course fit will matter and stitching seems to be the main issue on reading same pages back but i dont think i can make out much by looking at the stitching.
So inputs needed.

Helios with Knox armor is what I had been using for last 47xxx Km. After about 20000 odd Km, the zipper will start sliding down. Other jacket, well I don't know as I haven't used it that much. May be Rynox Tornado been using for nearly 8000 odd Km now.Originally posted by tpsan View PostI am deciding between the Rynox tornado pro Vs ASPIDA - Helios. both are just below 7K

Do you guys think it is suitable for occasional touring?

Re: Universal : Riding Gears Thread-Rynox tornado pro Vs ASPIDA - Helios
First of all if you wear any MESH jacket be it A*, Joerocket, Icon or Rynox, they're going to help you sweat in hot Sun, no matter the speed is 20, 40 or 80; only difference is, when in 80, we don't feel the sweaty due to the speed of the air flow. This is not just with my experience of Rynox or Helios, but also with Joe Rocket & Power Trip, they're all mesh jacket & they all did the same job on ventilation & that has always been my priority before answering your question.Originally posted by tpsan View Postsince you have used Helios and rynox which of the 2 you consider good in terms of ventilation
Helios & TBG have better build quality than Rynox & Helios is slightly better as it offers a little more features that's not with TBG.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
Thanks a lot for the review brother. But trust me, this jacket is anything but waterproof. Leave 100% aside, you won't be saved for 10 min in moderate to heavy rain.Originally posted by samkapoor1985 View PostHello Guys,
I am giving the review of Defender jacket from brand solace,
Solace Defender 100% waterproof Jacket
Features (Committed by Solace)
100% waterproof
And this statement is not limited just to SOLACE jackets. It's for all jackets.
If one wants 100% protection from rain:
1. Use a car.
2. Wear a rain coat with no stitching paired with high rise/ankle boots over your riding gear (still doesn't guarantee 100% protection).Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

My next choice is the DSG Evo, but I've heard of issues related to quality. Is the Evo still a good buy?

Re: Universal : Riding Gears Thread-Rynox tornado pro Vs ASPIDA - Helios
Buddy, even I was planning to buy a jacket and was confused between the Rynox Tornado Pro and Helios. Some points that I figured out after visiting an outlet and checking both the jackets.Originally posted by tpsan View PostHey Guys,

KNOX PROTECTION STAYS COMMON IN BOTH
1) Helios has a removable collar which Rynox Does not.
2) Both have this stand-alone liner feature (Though I don't know how many times am I really gonna use it)
2) Rynox has a Reissa Based rain liner (Reissa from what I searched on the internet is a breathable membrane and better than what I found in helios which is the basic flimsy raincoat type material)
3) Key chain holders/ internal pocket etc both are at par.
4) Rynox though comes with a detachable Thermal liner- Added advantage.
5) One thing I noticed after wearing the rynox jacket was that it came with those 2 arm fastening straps that really made the armors stay in place after tightening them. While in Helios the armors were falling way below my elbow.
6) Mesh of rynox felt far superior than Helios. - You only know this difference once you touch it.
7) Rynox has DuPont Cordura at elbow and Should. Helios has 1680 Polyester material. Du Pont Cordura is far more abrasion resistant than even Nylon. (You may find some videos about how abrasion proof Dupont Cordura is)- A big Positive when you are primarily buying a 'protective' riding jacket.
Hope this helps. Even I have to buy one by the end of this week so let me know if you have any inputs. Cheers.

@argee. I happened to go through your post where you compared the Rynox Air GT jacket with the Helios (with some images). While you mentioned above that you used the Tornado Jacket for 8k kms. Have you used both of these Rynox jackets ? Tornado Pro i guess was launched by rynox some 2-3 weeks back (as what was told to me by the shop fellow)Originally posted by aargee View PostYes

If I am not wrong, Rynox Air GT is sold for 5550/- (does not come with Knox armors but basic CE approved Armors) and Rynox Tornado Pro (Knox Protection) comes for 6999/- as against the Spartan Helios for 6799/-.
If you have used both Air GT and Tornado Pro which one amongst these will provide better Air Ventilation ?Last edited by Astrix; 06-11-2015, 12:23 PM.

re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
Do either of them have the back protectors ? If not add the price to the jacket as well. Back protector is an essential part of a jacket as your back is one of the primary points of impact. Since these are long time investments, do make sure you get the respective back protectors as well.Originally posted by Astrix View Post...

I am not sure about which jacket vents how much air because I am sure that any difference, if there is, is negligible. What I would suggest though is to judge mesh based on the size of the pores. Smaller the better. Lesser dust inside. Whatever air ventilates in tends to be cooler thanks to the higher pressure caused by smaller pores.
For being waterproof, I have used my DSG nero extensively in Bangalore rain for a couple of monsoons. If the chains are closed and you are not in the rain for more than 40-45 minutes, it keeps you dry to a point that you are comfortable. There might be a bit seeping in near the collars, the cuffs and the where you jacket ends but the major part of the torso remains dry. Your helmet will play a crucial part in keeping you dry as well. A larger shell will spill water further thus not dripping in side the jacket through the collars and keeping you drier. Also a faired machine goes a long way in saving you from the rain. If you want to stay bone dry then you need a closed cabin.

Recently bought Mototech's contour air riding jacket from Outdoor Travel Gear, the jacket is beautifully put together, not a stitch out of place. It comes with a sleeveless fleece and sturdy wooden hanger.
Protectors are sas tech at elbow, shoulders and foam cushion at back. Thumbs up for the quality.

re: Universal : Riding Gear Thread
First of all let me clear some air & then answer your question; 8K that I mentioned was an approximate figure at that time, it will be 7465 Km to be precise by this weekend, so my experience is very limited on this.Originally posted by Astrix View Post@argee. I only have Rynox Air GT & yes I paid Rs 5550 for it & it doesn't come with Knox armors & the "so called" CE armors is what you saw on those pics (there are better looking basic CE approved armors than these)
Yes, you're right, I mistook Air-GT to Tornado; I've Air GT which is fully mesh construction like Helios. Thank you for correcting meSkill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle
