I've been riding for 25 years - well over 250,000 kms on three different bikes. I've also had my share of spills and landed in the hospital on three separate occasions; luckily the worst injury till date was stitches above my right eye when I got mowed down by an autorickshaw 100 mtrs from my house - wasn't wearing my helmet, cause I just popped out to the nearby grocery store!

The doctor who stitched me up commented that I was "Lucky" - while I kept thinking of that full-face helmet which I had at home which would have saved me injury in the first place.

I was just 20+ then but have never again ventured out on a bike, however short the journey without a lid.

Subsequently had two other major accidents where my helmet resolve saved me. Once hit broadside by a bus and both me and my pillion were thrown off - I had my full face on and though badly bruised, got up immediately. Unfortunately my friend wasn't wearing his - he was holding it in his hand since he was uncomfortable with the heat!! Luckily he too survived but woke up only after three days in coma and scaring the crap out of his family.

On another occasion, I skidded on an oil slick and the bike slipped out from under me, while my head played a deafening tune along the steel railing of a traffic island - my head bounced and banged many times against the decorative vertical steel rods meant to mark the edge of the road - like running your fingers along the keys of a piano. My helmet was so badly crushed around my head that it took the help of passers-by who struggled to get it off me. If not for the helmet, I would not be here today - for sure.

As far as I'm concerned anyone who thinks that you're being paranoid by being responsible for your own safety is plain stupid. Period. The city morgues are filled with the bodies of 'stylish' and 'macho' riders, while the 'paranoid' ones get to go home and kiss their wives and girlfriends.

A full-face helmet apart from protecting your face will also protect your eyes from dirt and dust kicked up from the road, not to mention keep most of the grime from the street off your face. I've noticed many young women wearing full-face helmets while riding their 50cc Scooty's for precisely this reason. Maybe some of us macho men can take a lesson from the girls!

As for the heat - stop whining !! WE LIVE IN A HOT COUNTRY - GET USED TO IT!

...........Or buy a car with air-conditioning!

Guys I am going to buy Myself riding gears tomorow. Now I have shortlisted 2 jackets Rjays Swift grey Jacket & Dsg Maze.Which would be a better investment in terms of weather conditions of Mumbai. Please help Asap. Thank you.

DSG Nero has got lot of chains for ventilation.. I liked it & we had very limited choices in Mulund & even AH Helmet store did not have any stock of jackets..So we went for DSG Nero.. You might like to check DSG Phoenix as well (used in Stuntmania)..

Congrats on your new R15. It's an excellent bike .
My suggestion for riding gear is to save some more money & buy Alpinestars.

I recently bought Alpinestar T-Breeze jacket & SP-X (3/4) gloves. The fit & finish is seen to be believed. A lot of research & testing goes into Alpinestars products before they release their products. I can't say the same with DSG products.

Please don't get me wrong . I'm not advertising for any brand.
It's my own opinion based on personal experience.

so you want me to go all geared up to market just a km away..no thank you..your intentions are good dude..and as i said before,this topic has two sides where both are right in their own perspectives...however i will agree on the helmet part...scooty girls just dont know what they are wearing or where they are driving and i prefer to stay away from them as far as possible....leave them aside of the conversations..and macho factor is not portrayed here and if shown then xbhp is certainly not the place to be shown..the accidents which you had:maybe you were not concentrating on the road or its others mistake,whatever...
all i want to say in my own opinion is that its not logical for ME..to wear my 6000bucks jacket,3000bucks gloves,2000 bucks knee pads,5000bucks helmet and 7000bucks shoes for 5 to 10kms bumper to bumper traffic,where the max speed i can go keeping my feet on the pedals is 40kmph , bearing the heat and sweat..looking dumb and stupid and mugged up to my meetings...

if incase i have an accident in the above mentioned scenario,my other leather jacket,leather gloves,knee pads,and helmet would suffice...and can be replaced without a dent in the pocket.its not about the cost factor but flexibility and comfort for such a monotonous and irritating yet unavoidable means of commuting to and fro from office

its not even mesh...its that dsg nero.. and there is a lot of difference..phew !!!

I/We very well understand the concern dude...and i really appreciate it..its through members like you ,I/We/Many are into safety for ourselves as well as others...but i stand by my ground on the above mentioned reasoning i posted..with respect to helmet part,i completely agree that half helmets though very nice to use,its useless when compared to a full faced one..

they have the zippers in the front and the back..but i dint find any difference when they were open or closed i can remove the inner lining...but again its like ... you know..i like to wear as it is..
