• Re: Let there be Light : Bike Lighting, HID etc

Thanks a lot Skanda

I have one more question, How have you wired the lights?
I don't want to connect the switch directly to the battery as I'm afraid someone may fiddle with the switch while the bike is parked and drain the battery.

Two options I'm considering:
1. Connect it to the high beam wire. This would mean that the lights would come on every time I went to high beam (I don't use much high beam in the city)
(Total consumption would be 27w for H4 bulb and 20w for the aux lights = 47w I think the original wire should be able to support this)
2. Connect the switch to the main key switch relay.

Number 1 seems like the easier option to me.
What would you suggest?

All pictures have been clicked at the same Aperture/Exposure and ISO Settings on manual mode. Thus the brightness you see in the pictures can directly be compared.

There is a huge difference between the stock 35w Halogen and the Phillips Xtreme. As is clearly visible, both the LED bulbs are way brighter than even the Phillips Xtreme. What's more, they both consume just 27w, which puts them lower than the Phillips as well as the stock bulb in terms of power consumption.

Now, lets compare the two LED bulbs. The CN360 N1 seems the closest in pattern to the stock bulb and it has an excellent low beam for city driving. The V18s is clearly the brighter of the two. However, I am not too fond of the beam pattern of the V18s. As you can see in the low beam pic, the hotspot is somewhere in the middle of the beam (rather than right at the top). This means that if I adjust the angle of the headlight reflector such that this hotspot focuses down the road, it causes some glare to oncoming traffic. If however, I adjust it such that the cutoff line runs parallel to the road, the hotspot becomes too close to the bike and only provides a short bright throw. I just wish the V18s had a better pattern.

I am currently using the CN360 N1 to avoid glare on the traffic.
What are your views/suggestions?

Edit: I have used the V18s during a pitch black highway ride and I could easily ride at upto 80km/h with ample visibility (Apart for an occasional stretch when someone would be coming from the opposite direction with high beams on). I am yet to test the CN360 N1 on the highway.

Edit 2: Got a chance to use the CN360 N1 on the highway last night. Compared to the V18s, the N1 has a much more usable light pattern.
The V18 has a very broad pattern that has bright spots very close to the vehicle (If adjusted to reduce glare on oncoming traffic) and the high beam doesn’t have a very bright throw.
The N1 on the other hand has a very uniform throw on low beam and does not cause any glare. On high beam, it focuses the hotspot down the road and gives a very bright throw down the road.
I got a chance to ride side by side with my friend on his dominar, and the N1 was brighter than the Dominar’s headlight on both low and high beam and it illuminated the highway much further than the Dominar’s headlight
I would choose the N1 as the winner.

I currently have them on my apache 160 for past 4 year. No problems! But brightness is not enough for those long highway journeys..

1. Is this the one you tested ?

2. [Noob alert!] Will it work well on AC/Stock electrical setup of TVS apache 160 ?
3. How good are these LED in fog/rain conditions ?

Sorry for many questions.

Thanks in advance.

1. Yes, that’s the exact product. You can contact the seller and ask him to send you just one piece in case you don’t need 2.

2. It requires DC Voltage 9-36v. I don’t think it will work with AC. It does come with the stock H4 plug though, so you don’t need to alter any wires. Directly plug and play.

3. The visibility does degrade in rain, but according to me it’s still more usable than the 60w Phillips halogen bulb. I haven’t compared it to a 4300K HID, but theoretically, the HID would be better because of lower colour temperature.

If you have DC available on the bike, you could go for the 30w LED Aux lights suggested by skanda a few posts back. They help immensely during dark highway rides.

If it’s a DC Setup, you can go with the CN360 N1.

• Help upgrading lights on Avenger 200

Hi Folks!!
I have owned an Avenger 200cc since 2011 (2010 model) and it has served me well al these years.
However, the headlight(stock halogen) is getting weaker, and I want to upgrade the headlight to a
White LED one.

I would really appreciate recommendations on which product I can go with. I looked on Amazon, and
found most models mention Avenger 220 and above, but nothing specific to 200.

I have kept the vehicle pretty much like the stock version with no changes except for the fuel lock.

I liked these 2 models but not sure about their compatibility :

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

Duke 390 has a separate auxiliary connection wires and I have set it up from there using a separate switch which gets fixed on handlebar. These work only when the ignition is turned on.

Thanks to advice of Skanda some time ago, I got the 40w, 4000lm led bulb with fan. Cost me 700 Rs from AliExpress.

Three light is better than stock 60w halogen, but the life beam is a little higher than what I hoped for, so may give some glare to oncoming traffic, but nothing serious I guess.

Once the installation is done, you need either decrease or increase your headlight depending on the beam pattern. My high beam was a tad on the upper end and I had to lower the headlight.

I wanted to know how to connect 2 auxiliary allextreme U5 led lights, to my Apache 160.
By "how" i mean, should i connect them to a relay then to battery? Or directly to the ignition switch and battery? Please help.
Also, should i connect them in series? Or parallel?
Thanks in advance.

It is always safer to connect any additional load through a relay.

Hi Guys,

I am planning to make the Pilot + Group (Pilot, Speedo, Rear, Number Plate) Lights on battery in my 2016 Model TVS Jupiter. I saw some tutorials on youtube wherein people had modified it to full headlight on battery, but i want to keep headlight on AC current only.
My question is as below:

There are two connectors going to the headlight switch a total of 4 wires, which makes me think the switch connects two inputs to two outputs as below:

When the swithc moved to PIlot lamp mode it connects first AC source to Pilot + Group lights
when the switch is further moved to headlight position, it connects the second AC source to headlight

I want to input battery connection to the first connector as Input and terminate the AC source therein. So will it make my Pilot + Group Lights on Battery and leave the Headlight to AC only?

If the switch doesnt fully seperate the two input and two outputs then shall i use a totally new switch and install it for supplying power from battery to Pilot + Group Lights.

I am attaching photos of two connectors connected to switch and the switch itself. Can anyone clarify please. Click image for larger version

I am planning to replace headlights for my Yamaha Fazer V1 2010 version as I feel they have lost brightness over time. I am planning to buy online on Amazon. I am not sure about bulb type. Is it HS1 or H4? Please let me know. Also I am thinking about Osram/Philips. Which one of them is better? TIA.
