  • An Awesome looking bike after owning a CD100

    Hello people,

I want to buy a new bike within 1.5L(on road) and am really in dilemma.
Hope you people help me out to find my perfect match.

    About me :

I do my 3rd year MBBS.20 years old and I weigh 68Kg with 176cms height.
I own a CD 100 and have been riding it for the past 1 and a half year.
I havent rode any other bike other than CD 100 and once Twister for 5 minutes from my friend.
I Usually Dont ride very agressively,Wait polite in traffic and dont get inside the narrow spaces(till now),But at the same time I dont mean i never speed up.I do,But just occasionally-In General,I am a polite and safety concerned.
I Have met with minor accident twice - Minor abrasions and lacerations (Due to wheel locking on panic braking)
The most fearful thing for me till now is efficient panic braking.
I travel an average of 25-40 kms a week in city.I dont travel in highway or tour in bike.

    Requirements:

    Looks
Stability(a broader rear tyre if possible),a premiuim feel.
    Mileage - around 40

    My Choices:

I Have done a decent amount of research over the net and have concluded with the below three

Apache RTR 160 (Just as a choice) - It has got all the features I need but i really Miss the "wow-Look at that bike factor"

CBR 150R - Really fell in love with the look and built
But I feel its a bit overpriced and the switches are low quality like.

Duke 200 - I really miss the Dome and CBR Handsomeness,But the naked look and built looks convincing.
The MAJOR worry factor that turns me off is mileage and price.

Bikes I have read about and would not like to buy-

FZ,FZ S - I like the bike,But I am not obsessed with colours ,look and I see so many on the streets :P
    Unicorn,Trigger,Impulse.

I am really inclined with CBR 150R.My friend told that the way i ride , I can expect even mileage around 45km/L.
I Dont know how much increment will Duke give in terms of mileage.

How much max mileage can i expect in Duke if I drive it decently ?

Can you people Help Me choose it?
    Please.

    Thank you.

Currently I am more inclined towards 150R followed by Duke(Mileage, service).
I travel an average of 25-35 kms a week in city.I dont travel in highway or tour in bike.
Any other suggestions is also welcome

If your riding is mainly in the city, look no further and go for the Duke.

I was in a similar dilemma a few months back. My heart was tilted towards the cbr 150. But when I saw its cheap swithgears without any kill switch or pass switch for a 1.4 lakh bike, I checked on other options and went for the NS. And I am fully satisfied with the machine.

Btw you can also look at Pulsar 200 NS, for better mileage over the Duke.

Duke is a highly agressive speeding monster which does not at all suit your riding style. On decent riding it can deliver maximum 35 kmpl.Cbr150R, though a overpriced one, is rather a good choice for you. It has the necessary features you need. Sadly it lacks a pass light and an engine kill switch, but I think you can compromise. And recently Yamaha has launched FzS FI V 2.0 which looks really sexy it has everything you need- tire grip, comfort and smooth pick up. Both CBR and FZsFI v2 will provide you around 42 kmpl. Choose between the two and you won't regret.

A Duke can give you a minimum mileage of 35kmpl if ridden decently. I get around 37-39 kmpl because a major part of my ride is on the highway. A cbr150r on the other hand will always give you a better mileage. One of my friends even gets 50kmpl on his cbr . I'd advice you to take a test ride of all the bikes in your range and then you'll realise how much you like the duke for its crazy acceleration.
Why not an r15 ? Its in your price range and would be better than the CBR in a few aspects.

U mostly ride in the city u can take any bike from 100cc to maximum 250cc.u will not even use 100cc 80%of power whatever condition.firstly test ride the bikes then decide which bike to buy.following are the bikes based on there main feature
            1.yamaha r15 For it looks,breaking,handling best bike.38-48kmpl
2.duke 200 for it raw power.mileage 35 in the city as per u r riding style and 40kmpl on the highway.
3.u will not need it it is overly priced bike but good bike.38-48kmpl.

Final world for the style factor and overall u r requirement i will advice you to take the yamaha r15

Don't worry too much about Duke's mileage, it would return 38ish, if not more if you keep that riding style, but then again the bikes aggressiveness will certainly induce some fun in your commute.

If you are not a fan of power, R15 will also suit you, but you must take in account it's sporty riding posture. Some like it, some don't....take a TD and you will know

Duke is for you buddy, it just perfect for daily city riding, light weight, short wheel base, superb handling, As you gonna ride her calmly it can give you a average of 35KMPL.

CBR150R is purely meant for highways you need to rev it to get the juice, low end torque will kill you in city traffic while changing gears only, its real fun start after 7K RPM, its handling, fuel economy is a bit better than duke but its not meant for city riding only.

Better you take a test ride of both in traffic and then take your decision.

Re: An Awesome looking bike after owning a CD100

Well, I'm surprised that only one member mentioned the R15.
It fulfills all your requirements perfectly.

Looks - depend from person to person, but a majority of people think that R15 is one of the most handsome, and well proportioned bikes available.

Stability - with delta box chassis, taken from moto gp winning bikes, along with the aluminum swing arm, and semi slick, tubeless, radial tires, R15 is very very stable even at 100+ speeds.

Mileage - depends a lot on the riding style and how you maintain your ride, but still a healthy one(mine) gives 45+ on highways at speed as high as 90kmph. Gives 35-40 in traffic jams and stop and go traffic.

I too was confused between CBR150R and the R15 about 6 months ago. The reason I chose R15 over CBR 150R are as follows.
                    1. No engine kill switch, No pass switch in CBR150.
                    2. The quality of plastic parts like fairing was no as good as the R15.
                    3. The indicators of CBR are taken straight from stunner.
                    4. The switches of CBR are taken straight from a shine.
                    5. Still expensive than R15.
                    6. Pathetic after sales service of Honda.
                    7. R15 is an eye candy.

The only negative for R15 is the height if the pillion seat, and racing posture. If you dont have a history of back pain and if you are comfortable with the racing posture of the R15 then I see no reason to choose CBR150. Go for R15.

but Dont just read and believe me. visit both the showrooms and check for the above points yourself.
Take test drive of both the bikes to get a feel in the real world traffic.
Then choose what suits you the best.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

@Thread starter. Why have you left out the P200NS and the R15? They are beautiful in terms of look and are few of the best looking bikes sold in India.. i recently fell in love with the R15 after looking at a pic with its elder sibling R25..

Both these bikes fall in the price category you have mentioned..

Thanks a ton for all your valuable replies.I finally feel secure.

I admire the built of R15,But personally don't feel like buying it - Just because of too much aggressive sporty nature, pillion seat and also I find many of them in streets ;P
And I kind of like the engine sound of Duke and the uniqueness attracts me more.

Just one question pops out every time I see a Duke,May be because I have a mindset like that - I feel that the Duke is not at all safe.
Is it so ? Is it less safe than other bikes out there ? Yes it depends on the person riding it,But just felt like asking.

I was a bit held up with work this week.
Will test ride my friends R15 and also Duke in the showroom and gather an idea.

I am also very much nervous and afraid to test ride.Because I have only rode CD100 these years and have no experience about modern two wheelers, disk brakes and all. Just rode an FZ for some 10 mins - comfortably !
Should I prepare myself before the test ride or is it Ok ?
                          ( But i ride CD100 very well )

                          Thank You again.

Duke for city??? Seriously?? It's a pain to ride in bumper to bumper traffic,NS is just perfectly geared for city usage.

Thread-starter I wont suggest you a Duke 200, not a P200NS either ,they are just too powerful for a rookie especially when you are upgrading from CD100 and have 0-experienxe of riding any other bike which is 'Performance-oriented'. I would suggest you to go for CBR150R or an R15, They have got everything you want. Regarding cheap switchgear, Does it matter??? CD100 doesn't have a Kill switch either, it's not a problem especially when you get an excellently engineered DOHC motor that too from Honda. Else 200NS is your best bet but it's too powerful considering your query.

Techincally, there is nothing that you can point out to justify unsafeness. It is the agressiveness of looks which makes one assume that it is an unsafe bike.

But you have to also keep it in mind while riding that whenever you'll open your right wrist, it will respond in a certain way in which other bikes wont. So it will all boil down to the rider itself.

And no need to prepeare anythig for the TD. Just don't open the throttle aggressively for first. After 1-2 Km you yourself will feel comfortable to ride it the way you want
