Unless you are a hardcore tourer there's no reason to go for 500. The 350 would be better since it is more frugal and more refined in my opinion.

Booking process query

Hi guys, I had a noob query. I dont know if something like this has been discussed here, so please bear with me.

I had booked a Desert Storm in Feb this year. The dealer had told me the delivery would happen by end of may, but then they told me that the expected shipment did not come from factory, but a new shipment is expected by 10th of June, so they can make delivery by 15th of June. So far okay, but now the dealer has asked me to make the down payment by 7th of June and after that only they can ensure delivery by 15th of June. Is this normal? I thought that we would make down payment after the bike is received at the dealers place and after we make a PDI? They told me that after the DP is made they will send the details to loan guy, so he will proceed with the processing of loan amount also. I'm prepared to make the DP, but other than verbal assurance, is there something I can take from dealer to ensure that my bike will be delivered as promised?

Hello All

Need your inputs/suggestions:

1) I clock about 18-20 KM per day in the city

2) I go on rides every alternate weekends or at least once in a month (150-200 KM on an average)

3) I'm used to riding bikes above 200 CC

Background:

I have paid booking fee at a RE outlet and specified classic 350 as my choice.

I have been given to understand that I have an option to change my preference within 20 days from the date of booking.

The classic 500 looks more macho, I have better colour options and my dealer says that the waiting period will be comparatively lesser.

Query:

What should be my choice based in my usage pattern mentioned above?

Back-story: I got my first bike (a Discover 125) when I was 16 (for excelling in 10th boards! ) and have been in love with bikes ever since. I'm 26 now, have been working for an year, and between engineering and MBA, couldn't drive much for the last 5-6 years. Ever since I started working (even before), I always had a dream to own a Harley, and the Iron 883 IS the dream bike (close second is a Ducati Monster 699). However, after one year of meticulous savings, the finances are not working out (blame the MBA education loan) and it seems like the 'Iron dream' will have to wait for a while (2-3 years). In the meanwhile, I don't want to deprive myself of the joy of riding a bike!

Current story: So, I'm looking to buy a new bike, and after much deliberation and consideration, I've zeroed in on Royal Enfield as the best available option for my style, preferences, and budget. (Thought that's not the main agenda of this post, but I'll welcome suggestions on other options. No sports bikes or Japanese builds please!) To be honest, I'm not an RE fanboy, nor do I think that they are the best built bikes on the Indian roads right now. But, like I mentioned, they just happen to be the option closest to my dream, and I won't mind owning one for the time being. I am terribly tied up between the Classic 500 and the Continental GT. Completely different bikes, I agree. But, I'm a mix of a someone who loves cruising, and the occasional speed thrills! I'll be using the bike to commute to work (20 kilometers round trip), general loitering around in the city (Gurgaon), and occasional getaways on weekends (100-500 km radius from Delhi NCR). I am more inclined towards the GT, mainly because of technological superiority over the Classic (test driven both recently, and I think that while Classic gave a more relaxed ride, the GT was more exciting and felt more confident riding it). The chassis, brakes, suspension, and tires all make GT worth the extra 40k. But I've heard (and it seems like it) that the riding stance will be a problem in long distances.

Also, for folks who've bought their Enfields in Delhi-NCR region in the recent past, which dealership did you choose and why? And how has your experience been? I took the test rides at Manzil Motors, Gurgaon and the folks there were really nice. But, would like to go with a dealership that comes with good reviews and recommendations.

Need help, advice, and suggestions in this regard. You know me enough by now, so guys please help me get a suitable bike!

tough time choosing between enfields :/

ive really hit a dead end and cant choose the right enfield for me :/ my usage will mostly be in city but id ride for pretty long ours in the city itself. and thats Bangalore btw. i however do plan on taking the bike out in the highways as well but, very very very very rarely since i barely get the time to tour. i was gonna go ahead and book a tb350 as its an enfield (brand value) and it gives a decent mileage too plus its got a loaded instrument cluster, discs both front and back and its a low slung posture bike with awesome riding coomfort. but then... i saw a single seater classic 500 desert storm on the road. not like ive never seen a ds500 before but when i saw the guy riding it with one seat in the traffic... man i was mesmerized. i dont mind going for a ds 500 because it just looks too bloody good however, once in a while i might have pillion riders and i dont want then to suffer with a classics pillion seat either :/ my heart says ds 500 but i still did absolutely love the tb 350 in marine blue. i not considering tb 500 coz im not really a displacement freak. the torque churned out by a 350cc motor itself is too much for blores city traffic. however ive heard about the 350cc engines vibration at 80+ kmph. i wanna know how bad these vibrations really are. i mean, are they really unbearable??? someone please help me out!! ASAP!!

Still, if anyone can quote a recent On Road price of the DS500 it would be helpful.

Also, is there any chance of getting a showroom bike/used for test drive bike ? Someone who bought a Thunderbird 350 from this showroom mentioned that the tires and some other parts looked a bit old and worn out, as if it has been used.

Kolkata Bike Zone is a reputed dealer, you are in good hands. I got my bike from there and it was a hassel free experience.

Do checkout different dealers, as the price though is 2k cheaper than Austin Motors, but they are providing the bike in 15 days.

I went there yesterday to book the DS 500

This is the chart that was shown in the showroom



I already booked the DS 500 , 5000/- , delivery days estimated at 30 days. They said full amount is refundable thats why i went ahead.

Want to know if this is the correct price. Rs. 1,91,169

Also, is there any guide for a new buyer buying a bike ?

From an engine point of view both are the same bike. Looks and feature wise both are poles apart. Classic is more old school and Thunderbird comes with a more relaxed riding position and with many important features that are not available in classic like an rpm, odo meter, rear disk break etc.
I honestly don't want to point out one bike for you as it should depend on your taste and likes. No matter which one you choose, you won't go wrong.

On the side note the waiting period has drastically reduced. In Kolkata its 10-15 days for classic and about 20 days for Thunderbird. If you are opting for the ash coloured classic the waiting period is around a month here.
