  • ritwik, nice to see you taking initiative.
It really feels nice to see some meaningful discussion happening on this thread.
Antz, you are talking with a guy working with an oil company. So he obviously knows when he says that it is a myth created by oil companies.

    • in theory, antz is right... car clutches are of dry type contruction whereas motorcycle clutches are of wet type (to carry the heat generated due to much frequent gear changes and space restrictions for heat transfer). is a car oil is used in motorcycle, it will definately cause clutch slippage. the only unknown factor is telling when this will happen.

but as dk says, maybe the effect is much less in practice, but the manufacturers prefer to have seperate oil.

or maybe they (manufacturers) are right cos afterall they have experts employed to have the right formulation in oil. :P

Though he has a little bit of his heart leaned onto the honda brand , but ideally this should not be a major constraint for him as he is gonna use the same for daily commuting.

        Thanks,

BAWA!!! You can get a used 2007 P220 Fi for that kind of money!!! Why buy Honda!! Buy P220, change block piston (3k including labour). Voila!! New Bike!!!

BTW, a 2007 P220 engine warranty will stay valid till 2012.

                              I hope this helps,

Very nicely detailed regarding obstacles and handling...

                              Others can contribute too...

Check for testing results regarding speeds shown at the end of the document, you can match them up with Indian Bike speeds too.

So this cannot be used by Ninja 250R, P180/200/220, ZMA-R/ZMR. Don't know about R15/CBR. Things would be different if they added more grades.

Adding to what Ritwik said, Car engine oils are rated JASO MB and have special 'friction busters' which aid FE of the car. These very 'friction busters' would cause clutch slippage in the bike. Actually if you use car engine oil in a bike, it actually returns better FE (personally tested by mistake ) but considering the cost of early clutch replacement, the lower FE Bike engine oil turns out to be cheaper .

Bike Engine oils are rated JASO MA/MA1/MA2. Difference is of additives used. So, they are not interchangeable. Thats why we shouldn't use Motul 300v in your car and Mobil 1 in your bike.
                                Thanks for the info experts

@Antz: Btw, Motul also has 300V engine oil for cars Congrats on your new car.
