    4. Decreased braking ability (on dry roads)
In addition to above, you will wear out the tread of the tyre faster than the side tread.

However, having said that, i always run my bike on slightly higher than normal pressures cos the tyre runs cooler.

@eshan, nitrogen will lower the pressure rise when the tyre heats up but not for long... In a long ride, the only advantage of nitrogen is lower rate of pressure leakage buts thats primarily due to its molecular structure.. Also, this effect is minimal as far as the rate of pressure drop is considered...

If someone is trying burnouts using nitrogen filled tyres, the air inside will be cooler if nitogen is used as compared to atmospheric air... The reason is nitrogen has a higher latent heat as compared to air

Would filling Nitrogen help in such scenarios?? i mean whats the difference along with gains and losses?
The whole point of using Nitrogen is that its a cooler gas. The issue of drop in rolling friction would still exist.
So the road side logic is still correct to an extent. Drop in friction, (But a theoritcal gain in mileage)
I say theoritical coz that gain would perhaps be offset by acceleration and braking changes.

Stick to what the tyre company says, they have invested more in research. (Unless ofcourse you have a TVS tyre!)

As we learnt in 12th standard Chemistry, as per Gay-Lussac's law, pressure rise is directly proportional to rise in temperature. In our case, it is the temperature of the tire which is rising due to friction with the road. It has nothing to do with whether it has Argon or Hydrogen inside. As long as it is ANY gas inside, the temperature will rise since it is a function determined by the tire and road. Temperature will rise, and so will pressure. Thats how it is supposed to work even as per the manufacturer.

What Nitrogen does help in is it reduces the loss of air due to oxidation of the tire under high pressure(debatable though possible). There is less leakage, the cold tire pressure remains constant longer, you don't need to check the tire pressure over and over again, and you reduce your chances of under-inflating the tire unknowingly. Since there is no 21% oxygen in pure nitrogen(when compared with air), the oxygen cannot react with the inner rubber of the tire and ruin it(debatable) in effect reducing the tire pressure and tire life(debatable).

Latent heat is the heat absorbed by a body without any change in temperature. This essentially happens when the body is changing state from solid - liquid / liquid - gaseous / solid - gaseous / <-reverse. As long as you don't fill liquid nitrogen in the tire, Latent heat doesn't come into the picture.

If somebody does a burnout, the actual reason the air/Nitrogen inside the tire doesn't heat up actually does involve latent heat. It is the latent heat of the rubber of the tire (since that is changing its state to liquid ). The other reason is that rubber is a bad conductor of heat and during the burnout, only the surface of the tire gets heated, not the entire tire (as in regular continuous riding for 10/20/30 minutes).

There is nothing cool about Nitrogen..

Try life cycle mall on tilak rd...Near Pandit automobiles in front of the petrol pump in the chowk.

They have a huge container of these sprays. Sadly most hardware stores are also out of WD40 spray cans.
