It was a bloody possessed demon, yaar. And drum brakes. So one pees while riding and craps while braking. Just the sound of that two stroke twin, even at idle, burburburbur. Gawd, manna from Heaven. The yuppie plasticky CBR and CBR RRs etc will leak their oils on their own when they see and worst still, hear that banshee wail from the depths of Hell. Phew! That was one mean b*t*h of a bike. Thirsty for petrol, hungry for blood, the true-blue Yamdoot.

Yamaha will laugh its way to Fort Knox if it brings this bike back today. Control the emissions, then cheat a bit, sell it about 80K and suddenly, the pimply pubescent college kid is armed with a two-wheeled .44 Magnum to hold up uncles and aunties and grin evilly, "Make my day" he he he he. Yamdoot, f**k...

Yes, it makes sense to not wait for the Bonnie, esp if your need is reasonably urgent. If the big T fumbles yet again, I too may have to go for an N650.

Hope to be in Pune in Sep this year. Then we can clink glasses.

@icemang : hell yeah… the yamadoot was the satan’s ride right out of the gates of hell. still remember the days when i wud stealthily approach a traffic signal, put her directly in the 2nd cog & after the lights turned green, just twist the right wrist… the beast wud pull just as effortlessly in 2nd gear right up to 87kmph without requiring any gear change!!! the ultra deeeeep growl of a hidden royal bengal tiger inside the exhausts getting scalded, the beyond-words thrust of ‘torque induction – 350cc twin’ emblazoned on its side flanks & the whiplash effect on my neck & head, to this day remains perpetually unmatched. visibly the largest drum-brakes ever seen on a bike, those were a joke of a thing to shave off speed on such a devil... i always believed that a yamadoot slowed down only when u prayed with ur family-jewels in ur palms, begging it to stop...

she was truly the “ek gear neechey… akkha mumbai peechey” machine! no other bike, ever, gave that kinda devilishly pants-pissing grin the way she did. i still don’t know why-o-why yamaha has been sooooo ignorant of us desi motorcycle enthusiasts since then.

and yes… completely w/ u on the kids of today… cannot even imagine something like the yamadoot in the hands of punny 18 y.o. kids of present days. hell, we will have more college-day crashes than college-day crushes

i had set my eyes on the yamaha mt-01 a.k.a. ‘the hammer’ even since it was launched in mumbai some 7 yrs back – took a test ride of her back then & my life has never been the same, ever since. if there was ever anything better than an orgasm, perhaps imho, riding the hammer was it!

infact, after saving enuff money to invest in a kawanja, i actually visited yamaha dealership a fortnight back enquiring about ‘the hammer’ – sadly the bike is out of production & can be ‘sourced on request’ – the price? a stratospherical 13L ex-showroom. add all the frills n stuff & the cashflow for that goes to mars-atmosphere 15L range.

if i even as much whisper that i am investing in 2wheels @ that cost, i will have a divorce lawsuit + domestic violence case filed on me by u know who!

hence the midlife crisis compromise on the kawanja

ping me once u r back & when we meet, we will talk of nostalgic & glorious days of Norton’s, BSA’s, Truimph’s, MotoGuzzi’s & MV-Augusta’s, besides other things!

@icemang & @whymail - Have you guys been reading my mind? I am also 40+ (by a long margin) and was in two minds about upgrading my bike. However, don't know what to purchase. MT-01 is terrific bike and should press all the buttons. If you can get a slightly used one (specifically owned by a poser and not by a rider) around 6L, nothing like it.

Daytona is not the only 675 Triumph has got. Why don't you guys think about Street Triple? It is naked, can be fitted with a small fairing, relaxed sitting posture AND 100+ bhp. Should be priced at much saner level than Daytona.

trustvishwas : yeah. guess me & icemang are psychic's around here for all 40+ folks
also, getting 'the hammer' @ sub-6L seems a very tough thing to happen.
looks like owning one in this life shall remain a distant dream just like many other larger-than-life goals i have had.
and somehow the kawanja seems to be @ the right spot on the superbike food-chain for its price, saddle position, practicality & overall catering to my (smaller) dreams.
Mik : lol yeah man... the yamadoot's gonna be only a hear-say distant dream for next-gen just like many other legends i saw in my college / teens. @ marine drive, mumbai, there was this hotel natraj, whose owner back then, rode a Suzuki GS1000G, a BMW Funduro F650, a Honda NSR1000R AND a Honda Hawk 650NT. To me, that guy was God! I used to time my commute to college [Wilson College, Chowpatty] just so that i cud get a glimpse of either of these machines when this guy rode them down the marine drive stretch! just google for these machines & u shall know why! truly epic! since u r still hangin-on to ur twenties, guess u still have the great chance & good fortune to travel thousands of wide-open-spaces-kilometers just yet. enjoy it while it lasts, my friend. not many have been as fortunate as what you are

Then that will be YOUR loss, not theirs. For every Einstein, there are 99 morons going around, so, "forgive them for they know not what they do". When I get my Bonneville, I know that I will be asked just this exact question. My answer will be an expression of patience and erudition.

Glenfiddich is savoured by IT onsite returned types? Their tastes have improved manifold over the years, I must say.... And better hang on to your twenties very tightly - I had been married for 4 years before I realised that I was out of them hehe.

The MT - 01 looks nice but would be a bundle to handle later in life - I have one dodgy knee already. And the Street triple is too buzzy for me. Life, as such, is too high strung and high revving without the need for a high RPM motorcycle.
whymail. I have been in touch with Sudeep Chakraborty aka Xenologic and he has spoken about the utter incompetence of Kawasaki to maintain multi-cylinder engines in India. Apparently, the N650 needs throttle body recalibration at 15K kms and the ASC chaps don't even know of this issue? You would need to do a very elaborate survey to home on to the most professional ASC for your bike, WM. As for me, Triumph will definitely set up an ASC in Mumbai even if it does not do so in Pune. So, it will be yet another excuse to ride the bike to Mumbai for the routine service. Meeting the Mumbai members would be an added bonus.

There was a MH registration MT-01 for sale in a FB group called Superbike Classifieds at some 5.25 some days back. The current owner (in Punjab) is known to take good care of his bikes.

Check this out. We need this service badly. Base it on an Impulse and it can reach the remotest parts of the country. Uttarakhand would have saved many lives had this concept been implemented there.

• Showroom -- New Royal Enfield showroom coming up in Pune

Hi Fellow Bikers,

Saw it last week...there is a new RE Showroom coming up in Pune.

Its in Fatima Nagar, same place where Big Bazaar was once located (don't know where that shifted). Actually, its besides Big Bazaar.

The poster outside says "Opening Shortly". Forgot dealer's name but its definitely not from the existing ones.

I hope there is some appreciation of facilities from new dealer.

Thanks.

Happy and Safe riding,

aint heard of this from any of the other ninja owners..? perhaps since none of them have crossed 15K milestone mebbe?
oh well... guess i will have to ride it down to the most qualified service center around... perhaps the mumbai or pune folks can shed some light on this please?
dunno abt pune, but the service @ ghatkopar, mumbai is already @ notorious-to-be-blacklisted levels bad!
the only service center i've heard well about is the vashi one, who is known to treat the rides w/ the care they deserve & demand.
any spic-span service centers that can be vouched for by the pune ninja owners community? pls help...

will check it out.
but i for one, am not much into pre-worshipped rides...
always believed in 'buy a peti-pack' mentality... perhaps an exception may be made for 'the hammer' - will check out the lead u pointed to. thanks!

edit: checked the fb pages - didnt seem to locate the hammer. in case u bump across the guy / contacts - kindly share those.

Name - Saurav Jeet Bagga

I have no idea about N650. However, N250 requires vacuum sync of both cylinders. It basically ensures that both cylinders are operating at similar capacity. There is a small hand held instrument to check it and one screw of throttle body needs to be adjusted (if any error is found). I have got this done on my bike and AFAIK, Sai service Pune has now acquired the equipment to do that. The equipment costs around 15k but was not available with SVC because no one had asked for it.

I was the first one to get it done in Pune and now some others have also utilized this facility.

I think this is what icemang meant when he said throttle body calibration.
