yeah..target fixation..!Originally posted by spiderweb View PostIsnt it the same way you crashed in your first ride at Amby?
Thats my guess, but am damn sure that its the same thing that had happened to you too.
I had also been in same situations, but my braking was better i guess, so no crashes, touchwood
But I had learned for better, now I keep my eyes fixed on the white strip, the road surface & the on-coming traffic, only.sigpic

Happened today at lavasa. R15 lowsided. The bad news is that it was Sagars.Originally posted by niks_devil666 View Post3 rd one , I doubt if that can happen on indian bikes.

You could replace the rider in that vid with sagar and his bike. The exact same thing happened. The difference bing Sagar was way faster than the guy in the vid(and that resulted in bigger damage to both body and bike). He cracked the throttle open when in lean with a slightly less committed body position; the rear gave way in no time
Sagar is fine but is pretty hurt as it happened at some considerable speed.
Just spoke to him and he is in good spirits. He will be making a post himself in a while.
It just re-taught us a lesson we thought we already knew. Throttle Control is the most important and the most difficult skill to master. Unfortunately when riding in a straight line we dont even realise the importance of throttle.(tbh in a straight line throttle control isnt even called for;we just gun it to go fast and off it to slow down). It also reminded me of Andy and what he had to say about low sides
"90% of the lowsides are either too much braking at the front or faulty throttlle"
Anyways...uploading some pics...including that of Sagars, laying on his back like a gladiator while we went about doing what we were there for.
It was just me and Arzin cornering as Ritwik and Inder chose to tend to Sagar.Last edited by TenHut; 03-20-2010, 12:54 PM.sigpic

^damn!
IMO that can happen only when the bike generates enough torque to produce a wheelspin... I dont think the R15 produces as much torque to throw him off especially when you say that he was already fast! Did you check the tyre wear? 1. downshifitng in a corner
2. rear braking in a corner
3. faulty throttle in a corner
When leaned over to your max the torque produced by any puny engine is good enough for a low side as the contact patch is just pathetic. No wheelspin...the bike will just tip over.
Road surface or possibility of gravel is ruled out in sagars case. The roads were good...except for a black tar blanket patch throughout the breadth of the road which lay ahead of him; which (as what he said) also served in distracting him.Last edited by TenHut; 03-20-2010, 02:00 PM.sigpic

That's a bad news man.. Wish Sagar a speedy recovery!
Nice pics there guys..!
Hey no problem Vishwas.. Even my main point is to meet as many Pune riders as possible in my next visit. Would have loved to meet you. But anyways the date isn't fixed yet and I can come there any day during next week. I'll try to come there when you guys have that evening meet at Roopali. I don't know if it's there on this Tuesday or not. If it's there then I'll ride on Tuesday. Otherwise some other day of your choice.Originally posted by trustvishwas View PostSorry ketan. Hey guys, thanks for your wishes. Am alright and should be as good as new in about 3 weeks or so. The accident happened at my favourite turn on the way to Lavasa during my practice runs between the two chai tapris. Right after the second right hander, there is a long sweeping left hand turn which you can take at full throttle (post the apex) as you can see the entire stretch of road until it turns again to the right.
I usually hit the apex of this turn at a maintenance throttle of around 7.5k and crack it open once I am past the apex. The R15 sends a fair share of power post 8k rpm to the rear and if your bike is leaned into a corner, your rear does tend to slide because of this sudden power surge. To counter this slide I use my dragging knee to steer the rear and pick the bike up. But today was different.
So here's how and why the low side happened. Right before the second right hander, the Lavasa guys have laid this new tar patch which hasn't been leveled properly. This caused my bike to wobble as I was entering the right hander. To arrest the wobble I stood up a bit and by the time I leaned the bike into the left hander, I was not hanging off as much as I usually do. So when I cracked open the throttle after the apex, the rear slid as usual but this time I didn't have enough time to dig my knee into the ground to steer the bike back up and so it just slipped from underneath.
My jacket and knee guards saved me from any major injuries but my poor quality gloves and jeans couldn't prevent my palm and upper thigh from bruises.
So the lesson learnt here is - Invest in a racing suit or pant with thigh and lower back padding.
@satyen- My tyres are new and the lacquer has been evenly worn out.Watch my Baby R1 clock 148kmph at http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=cAHbYl...e=channel_page.
