          • MotoCafe Meet

An eye-opener of a session yesterday prompted and required an immediate action plan. Fortunately, the several xBhpians present yesterday made the task much easier.
A large part of xBhp is all about exploring places and riding to places for the sheer pleasure of it. For the past few months, the Pune gang witnessed an off season of riding; this was mostly due to year end activities at work place, examinations and/or some work that just needed attention. In all this humdrum, a handful of members still managed a ride or two to Lavassa and Amby Valley. It is time that we changed our destination; at least once a month.
In addition to this, the regular G2Gs that we have and the topics that we discuss were reviewed and it was evident that bikes or biking as such have taken a back seat.
It was a collective opinion yesterday that a change of location as well as culture is needed.
With this thought, the following points were discussed.
            1. Once a month, a volunteer will do the talking and sharing. He may share his ride experiences, bike knowledge, photos or videos; in fact anything that relates to biking. We shall call this activity MotoSession (nothing to do with MotoCafe )
            2. Every month, an xBhpian will voluntarily plan a one day trip.
            a. These trips should be in a 250 KM radius around Pune
            b. The member who volunteers will plan, moderate, control and execute everything related to the trip.
            3. It was reiterated that the quality of our meets needs improvement and hence some measures and efforts from all the members are necessary.
            4. It was also planned that from now on, the trip originator will collect a specified amount of money from all the participants before the ride commences. This will cover up for all the expenses of the group. Any deficit or surplus can be adjusted at the end of the trip or as required.
The responsibility of organizing a trip for the month of May is mine. I am posting a separate thread for the same. The MotoSession this time would be held by Surojit.
@Surojit: Please decide a date and convey the same.
Additionally, on the trip to Amby, last Sunday i.e. 16th May 2010, it was observed that a lot of xBhpians from Mumbai turned up without a proper riding gear. The seniors tried to prevent the same but in some cases, it was a hopeless cause.
I will be posting something regarding this on the Mumbai Offline thread too, but it is high time that we all realized the importance of riding gear. I am thankful to my Pune team who has all upheld our safety cause.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

NV, those were not xBhpians, you can rather say they rode with SBK group, active members on forum always follow the rules assigned by seniors on such meets.

It was kind of surprising to see such turnout mostly without gears.

Like Delhi xBhpians have induction thingy, we Mumbai-Pune gang can have the same thing going and CERTIFY(actually) the newbie to ride with us. You know to avoid gearless/reckless riders riding with us we have to make xBhp rides exclusives and provide member no. or something exclusive to the member thing and only those members can ride with us.
Those people who tell you not to take chances
They are all missing on what life is about
You only live once so take hold of the chance
Don't end up like others the same song and dance

There are plenty of places around Pune where you can do a 6am to 2-3 pm ride. Some examples can be found in my siggie. but everyone shud be ready to take on the bad roads , like the ones done by the folks last sunday for off roading practice.

When posting for a ride if you post the road conditions and the nature of the ride ppl may or may not choose to participate for the event..
We have all sorts of riders in our group and you will always end up with a handful of riders chiming in for a ride whatever the nature of the ride..
As vishwas says there are 5 kinds of riders in our fraternity
                    1. Rippers, love the quickblast onto the highway. A mad dash on NH4 towards vai, mahabaleshwar is the most sought after activity by these self proclaimed high speed morons.. This kind of riding often is a quest to boasting three digit figures at breakfast tables and nothing more.
                    2. Cornering Junkies, may go slow on the straights but will always try to be MotoGP racers in the corners..lavasa and aamby are likend to isle of man and mullholland highway by these riders. Such is the insanity of this bunch. Breakfast talks boil down to sharing knowledge about which corners had oil spills and how you felt on top of yourself this fine morning. The reality is that everyone is shitting their pants and blaming it on the tyre traction and paved/unpaved roads. If you want to have a false sense of being good at riding you have to embrace this category of riders.
                    3. Tourers. Question...why would anyone tour ? These guys have insane departure times, the likes of 3 am and they find a ride in summer at 12 noon exciting. There are no breakfast talks here cause there are no breakfasts at all. These riders feed on bugs and flies cruising innocently into their mouths at a mere speed of............................... 80 kmph !! Everytime I have toured on a motorcycle I have felt like a taxi driver.
                    4. Off roaders !! Wanna thrash your bike ?? You cannot better an offroader at this. Theres no better way to burn money than thrashing your baby on roads I wouldnt ride a bulldozer on. While the rest of the world is working out ways to increase tyre traction these bunch of riders love it when they have none at all. You also go tumbling down a valley only to be loud enough to ruin a fishermans 3 hour catch ! The world hates you if you are an offroader..ok thats not true but the fishermen sure do.
                    5. Confused riders..these riders love the quickblasts on the highway and love offroading too. There are days when they love cornering and touring too. They are confused ! They tend to attend all rides and make their presence and sweaty odours felt at every ride. These guys smell of sweat all the time. They are always returning from some ride.

Rides being suggested will more or less fall under the above 5 categories and whaterver the case be you will always end up with enough riders.

The need of the hour is for people to initiate more rides to a vivid variety of destinations and more bike talks at g2gs. Focusing on how we would have more rides if people were to change their preferences is to miss our true intentions.
P.S We should actually be having a lot of pune mumbai g2gs and connecting to more bikers than having it like a 6 monthly sacred affair.

I tried my best, but the 50% crowd was out of xbhp & would have taken offence against our suggestions on safety, as it dosnt matter to them, ofcourse they being illitrate on the subject.
Also I hate to say this but most of the senior guys present were not bothered (they just reacted, "OMG so many gearless riders!") but did nothing or I guess too much is being expected from me.
Even a few senior riders were Gearless, came in a Tee n a Helmet.
Am not taking names, but some even tried to say that its not much important as long as they wear the basic safety gear, i.e, the Helmet.

*I wish we had some responsible members like you, sagar, etc.

                          • I cannot agree more with Tenhut when it comes to the Pune-Mumbai g2gs. We should plan a combined g2g at least once a month if not more. I have ridden with Mumbai xbhpians quite a few times now but I still don't know most of them. Besides Spidy, Winzee and Dinesh I have hardly had an opportunity to properly interact with other members.

I also agree with NV on his point that biking takes a back seats in most of our Pune g2gs. NV and I have had long chats on this topic before and to be honest this has been one of the main reasons why I am not as regular for the g2gs anymore.

As far as the rides are concerned, I think we should definitely arrange more rides every month but we should leave it up to the members to decide if they want to tag along especially if we are looking at including offroading and touring trips. As tenhut pointed out, our clan has all kinds of riders and they should be given the opportunity and the freedom to do what they want to do, to ride the way they want to ride.

When it comes to safety, I am very very proud of the Pune gang. The safety measures which the senior members have laid down are being religiously and more importantly, willingly, followed by all the members. I have had the misfortune of sending some new joiners back home early morning on the day of the rides. But it was heartening to see how well they took it and were mature enough to understood the purpose behind these safety rules.

I feel for Spidy because I know how hard he tried to implement the safety regulations for the Amby g2g. But when you are planning on riding with such a big group, one person alone cannot take up such a big responsibility. Other members, senior and juniors alike, need to come forward and support guys like Spidy to ensure everyone on the ride is properly kitted. Those who aren't, need to be politely briefed on the safety regulations and why we have them in place before asking them to join us on the next ride.

Thank you very much. For putting my thoughts in words. I have noticed this in the last G2G that I attended.
I think its about time everyone explores new avenues. There are a lot of places in-around Pune. Not all of them have bad roads or are very far.

Mahabaleshwar itself has a myriad of approaches apart from the Pasarni ghat, just an example.

Tenhut: Havnt seen you riding much!
How you dare to put me in any of the category? I belong to the sixth category where the person advises everyone on everything and dosen't go to ride since he can't ride.

TenHut dosen't ride much. Most of the times, he is found sitting on side of the road drying his suit. Now don't start asking how the suit gets so wet.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.
