Not true, especially not true on our puny little bikes...Originally posted by ritwik23 View Post^A heavier person will not affect the top speed but only acceleration. The eventual top speed (with a long enough stretch of road) will still remain the same.
This is where torque comes to play and the acceleration will decrease and so would the top speed if the engine cannot cough up enough torque...

. I did not consider the load factor on the engine properly.
. Thanks for the correction.

There is a member in Mumbai xbhp.. mumbai people might be knowing him.. he had a 1st lot P220 (same as mine) which did an all time high of 147(same as mine though grossly lesser weight) the guy is skinny and would be under 60kg(my estimates) xbhp ID: Seamus . This particular bike was stolen 6 months later and so he bought another one a further 4 months later.. same colour(black) but this time new lot... This new bike comfortably goes to 153 - 155 (no similarly calibrated + same %age speedo error) and could go more as per experience. Now why my bike shouldn't do a similar speed and what changes were made in the new lot is still unknown.
P.S.: People.. get BSNL people to give you a demo of BSNL 3G. They have a cap limit of 7.2 Mbps and the speeds and the experience is very awesome. The speeds have to be seen to b believed. The current unlimited plan is 700/month (actually 4200/- for 6 months which is actually cheaper than home unlimited broadband plan) and to top it.. its much much faster.
@Ritwik how much do you weigh? I dont think there is too much of a weight difference. PM me a reply..Last edited by antz.bin; 11-02-2010, 02:44 PM.Advice is a form of nostalgia.

if a smaller carb is better suited for the state of tune in the engine, it will increase the top speed!! i am saying this here cos my old carb gave me a better top speed than the existing one even after various itterations of jets and all other stuff on the new one..dont ask me how , cos its beyond my limits of understanding...
btw, @rohit, can you upload the pics for last lavasa ride??

How far is Nashik by 220..?Originally posted by antz.bin View Post@all
I was too bored to go to Nasik by bus.. so took the bike instead
.. Tour De Nasik
Went to Nasik via Malshej and Bhandardara
I waanntt the smaller carb!!
My odo currently reads 20022
New tyre nasik buy have to Michelin Sirac..
So u bypassed my score...My bike is doing around 17k+ and expect another 1k help from Tenhut....for all these days I am not in Pune..
My tyres I feel are in decent shape...another 5k+ must be doable with ease..
Any other tyre apart from Sirac, u are considering..?

Well...if my 17ps 150cc machine can hit 148 then i think a 220cc 21ps bike surely can crack out somehting close to 155+. It also depends on gearing TBH.
@Antz- I think u should be able to do more than what you could. Give me a test ride on the highway once.
A much heavier Sagar, on his even older Yamaha touched 150kmph an you cant even touch 149kmph............
Learn Learn...Learn.....
Antz...I have personally, on my ownself, on my own bike, hitherto touched 153 kmph....
And that simply means that my bike has a smaller carb.....

More the weight, slower is the acceleration. But the advantage comes at top end due to increased momentum. Helps in rolling the bike easier. I myself have crossed 100kmph[speedo indicated] with a total payload of 130kgs[myself+pillion] on my Dio when it was about 6 months old.Originally posted by Devilpulsarian View PostHow far is Nashik by 220..?

So more weight can actually increase the top speed.Remember the time when sex was safe and motorcycles were dangerous.

Not entirely sure I follow. If it increases your momentum, how will it boost the top speed. It will just shoot up the stopping distance.Originally posted by Kshitij_10 View PostMore the weight, slower is the acceleration. But the advantage comes at top end due to increased momentum. Since momentum is mass into velocity. Going by your theorem, we could go piling up the mass to go on increasing the top speed.

Momentum
Its other way round. The total momentum of any group of objects remains the same unless outside forces act on the objects (law of conservation of momentum). Hence, momentum being product of mass and velocity, both of them are inversely proportional for a given momentumOriginally posted by Hyperion View PostNot entirely sure I follow. . So more the mass, less is the velocity for given momentum and viz-a-viz. Thus top speed would reduce if the mass of the subject is increased for a given momentum.

My non technical two words on this topic -
Increasing mass will not increase top speed.
As alibaba said, a lighter person will achieve higher speeds. That is the reason why companies struggle to remove even a kg of excess mass from their bikes. Given identical bikes, a lighter person will always achieve higher speed faster.
Also please understand that even a 7.5% speedo error @ 150kmph will show increased or decreased speed of 11 kmph. So honestly, I think this is a speedo error.
Other factors that may / may not be responsible will be slight gradient, wind velocity, your riding position etc.Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

This topic is better discussed on the ownership thread.. anyways.. the speedo error of all P220s is the same.. so.. if one is doing 147 and the other is doing 157 and both have speedo error of 7.3% we can comfortably say that 1 is faster than the other.. enough said.. so now we can stop this particular technical topic.Originally posted by trustvishwas View PostMy non technical two words on this topic -

@Saad.. By 220, Nasik is 3 hours away.. (By car its 4 hours..) but as I left NH50 from Narayangaon, and did a total of 280 km instead of 210.. it took me 5 hours.Advice is a form of nostalgia.
