  • I guess we should have a panic breaking tutorial sessions by our seniors soon At some safe location

Even I faced a kind of similar incident though I dint apply disc brakes .

Location : The 2 nice curves near aundh gaon phata .

Incident: This happened just when myself and nitin were returning from the last G2G. We were cruising on my unicorn on not more than 50-60 . I took the first curve very easily. Then there is a little bit of straight stretch, where in I started to adjust my rear mirror view. It took a little more second than expected, and this idiot was on phone ! By the time I looked in front I was heading right to the wall i.e I approached the curve a little early. Within a fraction of second, applied back brakes a lil got down to 50's and took the turn safe. Had I applied the disc's it was a sure fall as the ground was lathered with construction sand and small stones.

My lesson: When on turn, concentrate on the turn. However small the turn might be

    @shri
Hope you doing fine . I got a feeling of sherlock holmes when we were trying to solve the mystery of how did you fall late that night until 3 :30

The extent of black out and shock shri was in was really pathetic. I had rushed to his place at around 11:30 in the night and he really didnt remember that he had called me also. He kept on mumbling same things for hours together. For a second we also thought of taking him to hospital again. Anyways the bad times are over

        • @Antz: In any ride where formation is to be maintained, the leader and the sweeper should be the most experienced riders in that group. The need for a leader is pretty clear and logical; the sweeper as DK mentioned earlier is the most non-selfish non egoistic person in the group. He has to keep formation at all times and stay behind the slowest of riders to ensure that no one gets left behind, unattended.
Easier said than done, the first part of any group ride is discipline and ownership. Every rider has to make a conscious effort to ensure an event free ride. Unfortunately, the rushing adrenalin on group rides takes its toll on some of the best.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

In my long winding post, I was only trying to help him out as he told me on the phone that he had blacked out from the time he left Moto-Cafe (a few minutes before the crash) to the time he woke up the next morning. During the blackout period, he rode to balewadi from bavdhan, crashed his bike, went home, was taken to the hospital for first aid, had his dinner and slept off.

According to me.. over leaning is when your tyres give in as you have leaned too far and you have no more of the 'C' left to get any grip. I have no other definition for it. Pardon my noobishness. I am only trying to educate myself.

@Ketan, Niks, Incubus.. thanks for the pointers
Yeah, you were clear about how crucial it is to think of the mistake/series of mistakes and try to get into the depths of it. Infact analysing the crash is the most important thing to do after a crash. You often find ppl saying ''stop thinking about it/forget about it'' hours after you have crashed. Well thats good for a few hours as you better focus on knowing whether you are hurt and cool down to reduce the adrenaline in your blood, but it aint any good if you dont wanna dissect your crash ever. The sooner it is done the better is gonnna be.
That cornering part of what I said was laid down for the record as I dont want someone to think that he/she crashed in a corner for they ran out of tyre width. The next you know someone will spend hours contemplating if he ran out of tyre width for he crashed in a corner and that aint gonna get him/her anywhere. It was just for the record.

By using all that "C" portion of the tyre ,as you and I like to put it, you would be going so much faster into a turn that you would have crashed your bike already in the last corner

If you crashed in a corner you basically were too fast for your convinience and you overcooked the corner(overestimating riding skills is also a part of overcooking a corner); you made one or the other input errors. Its always gonna be the rider unless if you crashed because of sand/stones/oil/JM road speed-bumps/external world influence
On a very different tangent, Shrinath, after karthikpai's testimony of how you underwent some serious blackout trauma you should undergo general health check-up asap. You never know, it could be a simple act of some vitamin deficieny, and we all lack in one or the other. Thanks to my smoking habits I myself need to keep an eye on my vitamin C deficiency. I stonrgly urge you to refrain from going on rides before you get a general check-up done. It will also make sure that you are in perfect health and have no internal injuries to thank this crash. After both my crashes I infact went in for a full body check up including cardio and to my surprise I did find a hairline fracture in my right shoulder( it had gone unoticed in childhood and my crash didnt do it any good)

@ ten hut- i went for a general checkup yesterday night and came to the conclusion through an Xray that i have a hair line fracture in my left wrist and a bad muscle pull in my right wrist too which is caused because of the bikes entire weight on my wrists. the doc has started my treatment and says it would take around 15 days for me to fully recover till that time i have to be careful and not ride the R15 so i am with scooty where i dont ride her beyond the speed of 20
