Sorry for the double post.
Brief log about today's activities.
6.30am, "Sachin hang on, imma be right there, just grabbing a quick snack"
6.50~ish (by my estimate) Met Viraj (Mr Arr 1 5) and Sachin (Mr black Zmr, with unmatching red aplinestars) at Majiwada petrol pump. Saurab is running up and down the road.
7~ish He needs to change his kneepads, or something. He is directed by our road capt to meet at lordes, (or lotus?) complex.
7~ish En route we collect Puneet on his red karizma zma from the hard shoulder. He was probably thinking "Finally" and starts rolling. Soon we are at the lordes complex.
While waiting for Saurab someone speculated about the rains. We all look at the skies, it doesn't look like its going to rain, true that, it hasn't rained yet.
7.10~ish The rain gods offer us a teaser, but his show is spoilt by the arrival of Saurab on his blue 220.
7.12~ish Gear on, Bike on, side stand off, and off we go.
Lost track of time~ After some puttering we cross the toll naka, the road is a bit martian here. Some more puttering later we are at a decent stretch of road with some sleepy/hungover fellow motorists as company (read trucks, families on uvs.. luggage on top, etc)
>..> Strech leading to kalyan phata (nh3-nh 222 intersection) is crap, All the lehers and rajmachiers loved this bit, i bet. I swear i saw a crater big enough to fit a healthy cow.
Next 1hr 45 mins
the road was butter. Maybe a bit too butterish when it rained again. Few crater filled sections. Oh right we stopped a bit too, to let the bikes cool down a bit. Weekenders, oggling at the new species of human being. in return we oggled too, but the details cannot be discussed in a open forum.
We didnt get much rain, just enough to help us keep our visors clean.
Few kms away from Manas, Igatpuri, Road capt Viraj call us to the shoulder. "Where should we go first? manas? have breakfast? then return via a shortcut/ sighseeing route. or the other way around." It was decided that breakfast can wait, especially if the shortcut meant that we had to back track.
So we take a left off NH3, into a calm ruralistic road. The surface was top grade, considering tat usual traffic is domestic cattle. And there is greenery to the left, greenery to the right. Plus you could see sheets of rain from far, way before you ran into it. And the smell.
cool, dewish + the smell of crop fields and cowdung multiplied by a slow breeze, into which we were riding.
We take another left,
Offroading?.. wait what
offroading between crop fields. We crawl feet by feet for bout 5~10 mins (left, right, roll downhill, right, left) and we eventually approach a spot where we get off our steeds. two kids had followed us from the village nearby. they are quickly appointed the guards.(some setting between Viraj and the kids)
what was the sight to see, a water fall. "I can hear it but where is it?" -Sachin. "we will have to climb down a bit"- Viraj. At the entrance of the water fall. "Abbey how far down we will have to climb
" - Sachin "Just a little bit."- Viraj
After 15 mins of climbing down over rocks, toeing small cliffs, stepping on tree roots, using tree roots as grab rails, and a few spots that required one to crawl on fours. we are at the bottom, well almost bottom. I had it easy with canvas shoes and a bag to hold my glove and helmet, the rest were,.
fun to watch.
Ladies and gentlemen welcome to an un named waterfall, which has hence forth been christened "Bring your Girl here waterfall"
This waterfall has three Bases, and you can take your girlfriend to all three (cardio regime strongly recommended,.) The above pic is of base 3, (dont mind Sachin, he was explaining how he had fallen from a similiar heighted waterfall. note: Further pictures were taken on other cells, dont worry nothing happened, he didnt show us an action replay of the fall.)
^should give you a clear picture of how steep it was.
Picture of Base 1

Picture of water flowing into Base 2

After we breathed in enough water, and when it started pouring again, we set off again, doubling back to nh3 and then to Manas. The climate kept getting better with each meter travelled, the bends.. beautiful but Mixed with the lashing of salt from sweat and rain.
The topography evens out, and we are greeted with crosswinds and stormy rain. So intense that it affected visibility, shortening it to a few meters for a few minutes. Eventually we roll up to a petrol pump, and then a functioning hotel.

and treat ourselves to a ravishing breakfast.
Their food did arrive, later.
During the course of the meal, we managed to see the beauty of nature in the form of fog, or clouds crashing onto the terrain. Sadly have no pictures of the same. but the fog stayed for quite a bit
Fully fed and Fueled we set off by 11am~ish. with the fog still covering the roads. As we descent back to ground zero, our faces are slapped by the cool hands of clouds. This stretch of 20kms~ was simply mesmerising in beauty and mystery. Physically.. we rolled on two wheels, but the same cant be said about the mind.
After the decent, mother nature didn't have to offer much, which is ok. You cant ask too much i suppose.
The next 2 hours~ was probably lost in time wrap. and boom we are at our parting destination, where we bade farewell to each other and continue with our individual journey.
Thank you for the ride respected sirs.

Thanks for the update.Originally posted by RAK View PostUpdate on Kaas:
One of my friend went to Kaas on weekend. Its raining very heavily out there and blooming of flowers have just started. It will surely take ~2 weeks for the flowers to bloom completely.

@ Ninad & Tushar, so I guess I was right at the decision to go there in 3rd/4th week of Sept.

Nice write up there kishore. You have a unique style of writing. Always something to be proud ofOriginally posted by Saerius View PostLadies and gentlemen welcome to an un named waterfall, which has hence forth been christened "Bring your Girl here waterfall"
Btw, are you sure the waterfall is unnamed? it looks very much like vihigaon fallsIf you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough - Albert Einstein
I think i know less than what you think i know.

Its the Vihigaon waterfall, very popular among waterfall rappelling groups. Me and Ameya220 along with his friends visited it a month ago ... Regarding KAAS ... I was there on Sunday, 4th Sept morning. The bloom has just begun ... Now the majority of flowers are yellow colored along with some purple and pink flowers ... But it was very windy with occasional rain showers and dense fog reducing the visibility to few meters ... Hence couldn't experience the true Kaas magic ... Nevertheless the weather was perfect to visit Sajjangad where we had our night stay and Kalyangad which has a Jain temple in grand cave with knee deep water but requires an hour trek to reach there ... And lastly the mesmerizing Thoseghar waterfall which was at its peak !
Road Condition
Mum-Pune-Satara = NH4 is in very good condition
Satara-Kalyangadh = OK road with few bad patches
Satara-Sajjangadh-Thoseghar = Good road with very few bad patches
Satara-Kaas = Good road with very few bad patches
Satara City Roads = Bad conditionLast edited by Rony; 09-06-2011, 11:41 AM.
