Thanks a ton for this road update RAK. Can someone please suggest the best route to Ganpati Pule from NH17. Is Nivali Phata - Karabude - Jakadevi - Chafe - GP a good route ??

That road is good. I would suggest you to take Ratnagiri - Ganpatipule route. That route is simply awesome and the road runs alongs the coast.

If you are not going by the above route then avoid Sangmeshwar-Jakadevi shortcut route. Some locals will suggest that. I was in car when we took this route after a locals suggestion and didn't find a sould for 15-20 mins on the road to ask for directions during daytime. Better take the normal route. Few weeks ago I also went to Ganpatipule but we avoided the Jakadevi - Sangmeshwar route because the locals were against it. It was night and they told that if something bad happens at that route there will be no one to help us.

I might face flak for this, but its a genuine issue. Do you guys wear gloves during normal city rides to office/malls/theatre etc? I usually don't want to carry a bag with me, and I hook up my helmet to the helmet holder provided by the bike but can't fit the gloves under the seat. So wondering what you guys do or do you avoid the hassle altogether?

I have a FZ which is cursed with minimal under seat storage for nothing other than your bike papers.

my suggestion to you is... if you dont intend to carry them... you can opt for city riding gloves...

Has anyone recently been on the NH17 recently. I would like to know the condition of the road. I know the patch near Pen area is filled with potholes. I'm planning to do a Mumbai-Goa this weekend and knowing the conditions of the road would help me be prepared.

I wouldnt recommend doing it even if i did it safely sometime ago and my dad would be driving there tommorow...i consider my decision of riding throughout the night on NH17 stupid,stupid as it is actually something like a suicidal attempt...leave aside my good riding abilities and experience...i consider myself pretty lucky to come back alive

With these non-stop rains its not advisable to ride there even during the day..

I wear my bandits all the time in the city... Even when I go to malls or movies or stuff... But I do not leave my Helmet with my bike... I carry it with me all the time and dump my gloves inside the helmet...

Worst Patches on NH17:
Pen - Wadkhal
Mahad - Poladpur
Just after Sangmeshwar (~8-9 Kms is the worst of all)

Best Patches on NH17:
Nagothane - Mahad
After the ~8-9 Kms of Sangmeshwar worst patch the road is awesome till Hathkhamba.

No idea about the situation after Hathkhamba.
