Ride To Toranmal Hill Station
10th & 11th Dec'11
Total Distance - 1000 kms (Max)

Route planned -
Thane to Toranmal - Via NH8 & NH6 - 495 kms
Toranmal to Thane - Via SH1 & NH3 - 440 kms

(OR)

Thane - Toranmal - Thane - via NH3

Plan -
On 10th Dec'11 - Leave Thane at 4:00am

Planning to reach Toranmal by 3pm latest, stay at any guest house or MTDC and then sight seeing in Toranmal.

On 11th Dec'11 - Again sight seeing till 11am and then start return journey.

From what I found on web this place has Lakes, view points, wildlife sanctuary, etc Nothing Exotic about the place but the fun is in riding and also seeing a new place.

Total Lunar Eclipse atop Slope of Hell !

I am planning to witness the total lunar eclipse away from the city's light pollution at a place very popular amongst off-roaders and bulletiers called "Slope of Hell" near Kamshet (just ahead of Big Wheels Motoring Cafe) on Mumbai-Pune NH4 this Saturday (10/12/2012) evening and camp overnight atop. The return journey would start on Sunday morning and we should be home by 10am.

Atop there is a BSNL tower building where we can take refuge or better if we have tents with us we can camp. The view from above is astounding !

Plan would be :-
1. Leave Mumbai by 2pm on Saturday (10/12/2012)
2. Reach the place before 5pm. (Put up the tent before sunset.)
3. Lunar eclipse would start at 6pm and peak at 8pm ending at 10pm.
4. We can have campfire/dinner/fun atop overnight.
5. Leave the place by 7am and reach Mumbai by 10am on Sunday. (11/12/2012)


We need lots of water and food to help us survive overnight. Some photographers and good entertainers. Someone can bring a tent (banking on DK bhau).

Hi Rony,
I'm from Pune and was planning something like this. I'd recommend going TelBaila, it's a secluded place, beautiful surroundings. It's a rock face actually where avid trekkers come to test their limits. We can camp at the temple below. It'll be an amazing experience and a food view of the clear sky......

I chose this place as it sits high above the surrounding structures giving unhindered view of horizon and also has road access all the way till top (we can skip the last slope and park our bikes near the railings). Its really a nice place to observe stars and planets given its location away from both the cities pune and mumbai !

unfortunately (because cant join) i have to attend a friends engagement (yet again ) on sunday at virar

will check at my place for tent if dad hasn't lent it to someone

you can than collect it from my house if you cant arrange one for yourselves-- it houses 7-8 people
