Yes, Kolkata needs development, infact the city is crying for development, many busy intersections need a MUST FLY-OVER and the Chief Minister here wants Kolkata to be compared with London; I think it should first be commpared with fastly developing cities of our country only e.g. New Delhi, Chandigarh etc. (No offence, politically or personallyOriginally posted by rx100.7050 View PostYou guys must gather up start a rally with all banners & everything to create awareness. You can sincerely try to contact the KP traffic Com. & show them your plan to create awareness. I guess it will help a lot. I have see LOT many young boys riding bikes without helmet/ tripling/racing. Kolkata has very narrow roads. Even Diamond Harbour road, which few years back was good has now become too pathetic. I remember taking the Rail Line road which runs parallel to the DH road till Taratala, I guess so as to avoid rush on DH road. That too these days have become pathetic!! So much traffic! But I must say one thing that people do fear the Sargent, if he is present there. In subuurbs it's managed by WB police & main Kolkata is managed by KP. It seems KP is more efficient.
Kolkata has put many restrictions on parkings but the room for development is really less. Pity. Imagine a wide road running parallel to Ganga & you riding on it
)
Btw, the DH road you've mentioned is now again in a better condition than it was since last few years because that area is now under KP's jurisdiction. (these things are new to me that cops are getting beaten by local people and they are acting irresponsibly in that tolly.-chow. area, I never expected this from KP).
And regarding rallies, hardly any public gets any benefit through these rallies...a civic sense is required. The license procedure should be made strict, people should be made aware to stick to corresponding lanes and not to change lanes frequently and using indicators if doing so.
Also on intersections, I don't know when the pedestrians would realise not to jump on the road and find their way to cross the road by forcing the vehicles to stop...they should cross ONLY if the signal is Red for vehicles(this thing gets quite well in shape during Durga Puja when Civic Police Volunteers carry a rope/barrrier to keep pedestrians on the footpath). ...and and and to be continued... There are many points to be pondered. Lets see, how many riders come up with us
Whats this? They are bound to write these number of police cases every month...Originally posted by Rahulbarik View Posti am not talking about the accident bro. I am talking bout the way i got harrassed... One more update... 4-5 days back a cop got beaten by local people once again and this time in azad garh, tollygunge... News about cops getting beaten are coming from everywhere... But yeah the cops are helpless too... Earlier their monthly quota was to give 36 cases, and now it is 72..double... Life is harder for them also... Bt there is no point giving a case in narrow gallis where even a bus cant get it. There is just about space for 2 cars... And 1 more thing i want to ask..i dont know this... Is riding with a learner's licence illegal...? I am fined for this... I was riding solo in the morning...
I never thought there would be any system like this.

With Learner's license, the rule states that on both front and rear should be "L" written PLUS the rider with Learner's license must be accompanied by a person who has a valid permanent driving license as rx100.7050 said in his previous reply. And generally, no cop would charge you unless he is intended to do so
He will point out anything, even if you have a permanent DL, and every docs ready
So be aware and confident, and follow traffic rules
Multiquote: You will see a '+' sign near 'quote', that is a multiquote option, it helps you if you want to quote and reply to more than one number of posts. Try hitting that '+' sign below every such post you want to include in your reply and then hit 'Reply'.
One more feature of multiqoute option is that it works over pages as well, i.e. you can also include posts from other pages..Last edited by sunny_; 09-30-2011, 12:30 PM.

So DH getting better, eh? good then. If you have the will anything is possible. Better management is what is required. Anyhow, 26+ yrs WB was deprived of everything. Hearing that things are changing. Long live Kolkata."HASTA LA VICTORIA, SIEMPRE !" - Chesigpic

i didn't know that i must carry anotherer friend with a valid licence.... And yeah the fact about their monthly quota was confirmed by the sergeant itself who fined me for the licence....
he said 72 cases in a month is impossible...
by the way law and management is a lot better than before after becoming KP bt the traffic department is better after tollygunge metro towards anwarshah and the other side after behala.... In between tolly and behala, especially around karunamoyee its worse than before... Driving is like a nightmare... I am saying this because i stay there...
a 2min distance is now taking 10 mins... But other than these, KP is fine... It was needed for a long time.. Those rash riders are nowhere to be seen nowadays...
and thank god rajarhat newtown is not under KP... Haha.. U know why... Jst joking...

'cause cars with low ground clearance find their bumpers broken after they hit these
)!
Earlier it was butter smooth all the way from CC2 till Sector V entrance....and I've done many performance tests of my bike there
ssshhhh.... Seriously, it is one of the best roads in Calcutta...and one can cruise at 90kph continuously (obviously unless you face those 3 Big speed-breakers.

I agree. I regularly cruise at over 110+ speeds on that road. Love crossing those corollas and citys
But yes, if you don't know about the bunch of speed breakers (no really, how does 6 breakers together help the case!!), you are in for a real shock.
You are not a chemical. So think before you react.

But I've seen many car drivers(mostly young) who rev like hell after those speed-breakers....I had a tough time against a Civic although I picked up way brilliantly but he overtook me at 135kphOriginally posted by dreamseller View PostI agree. I did not say anything crossing it. Hoping the best. Yet I'm very sad about the developments here.
But, nonetheless, I, as a rider, enjoy the rides and trying to help whatever can be from my side.
