There is a saying " All Good Things Happen to those who Wait"....It seems the early batch of CBR have engine Knocking , and Shim(what is this ?) change is done to overcome this . Don't know how far this is true ...

        • Ji, it is quite true that the 1st lot of C250R's are having issues with SHIMs & a fellow member of this forum itself has reported & has pics of his C250R at ASC.

Atleast I could save some money + reduce the waiting time The wait is totally confusing me everytime!!!

Go with what your heart says.....but decide on what your head says.
If your speeds are not going to be above 110 Kmph, then go for ZMA-R (VFM)or ZMR...If looking for more sustainable top end of around 140 Kmph then Ninja 250 or CBR 250(VFM)...Except Ninja the other bikes have 2 to 3 months waiting time.

            • Wonderful advice Sir
I'd need to keep cruising in 110-120 Kmph & occasional burst to 140 Kmph (for overtaking etc). I'm getting more inclined on ZMR due to the killer wait time.

No N250R for sure as I'll spend my entire paycheque to their ASC; even my car maintenance isn't that expensive!!! Like I keep saying, buying is one time affair, but maintenance is for lifetime.

Looks like HMSI doesn't need money!!!

I am not sure if ZMR can serve that purpose Aargee. It can cruise in 110-120 kmph for sure...I myself have done B'lore-chennai in 4 hr 15 mins in my ZMA running continuously in 110-120 kmph. But imo these are not bikes meant to be used in that fashion.

Good to know that you are shifting to South East Coast of the country. Welcome to Chennai!

All I can say is Police are sometime temperamental, they do surprise checks etc. As a resident of Chennai I always carry papers (photostat copies will do in TN) and never give a chance to cops to pull you out.

I'm not aware of any instances where HID plonked vehicle were fined. However, seeing your vehicle registration, could also give another reason for a big bargain.

What you should ideally be doing is carry NOC from your state's RTO. You can pay Tamil Nadu road tax and ride peacefully or Change the Registration to TN.

Mutual understanding is part of Indian culture. You should be able to catch the local language soon in mean time English would be manageable to an extent.

@aargee, I can share my experience with my Ninja 250R.

I would say, of all the three bikes i owned so far (Unicorn - 2005, Karizma R-2008 & Ninja-250R), Ninja has been the most trouble free bike. And believe me, i've used my Ninja the same way as any other bike... like going to office & shopping in peak traffic, heavy rain, mud & slush etc.,

The general maintenance of Ninja is not at all expensive. I paid less than Rs.1500/- (including Oil change) for each of the 2 services so far. Of course, if we drop/crash the bike, it's expensive to repair.

I'm pretty sure that no variant of Karizma (stock condition) is capable of 140 Kmph top speed.

Hope this will help you in choosing your new bike...

OT: If it's not a permanent shift, isn't it legal to ride a bike of registration of a different state for a period of 1 year without the need of an NOC??

You are right. Not always people do go have some talks of rules with cops where the language is a barrier.

Kinshuk.arya had not explicitly mentioned about the tenure in Chennai. What I had given is very generic. Also, if you had not obtained NOC, Police could still question how have you entered the state i.e by tain/lorry etc. So all the more, it is safe to obtain NOC to avoid some trouble in my opinion. Hope Kinshuk.arya takes these pointers.

I was asked when I had taken my RX to Pune during 1999/2000 for PG. I had carefully preserved the train transit receipt proved a good supporting document since I had not obtained NOC from Chennai.

                          • thanks for all the pointers guys...

the problem is i am currently in hyderabad and my bike's registration is of rajasthan so will not be able to get the NOC....

i dont know for how long i will be ther in chennai....

so if I preserve the transit recipt of train or the courier guys it shouldnt be a problem for at least an year?

the good thing is I always carry all the papers (except NOC) along with me at all times in original....

and my commute will be mostly around the chennai SEZ...

i dont have a problem paying the road tax in chennai if it can take the police off my back... but do I need the NOC to pay that as well? and after paying the road tax for how many days can I use the vehicle without the NOC or without getting new registration??

Good to hear about your G2G experience . Make it a point to attend g2g's and get to know people. As you said, Riding gears go a long way and you should consider saving up for buying a jacket/gloves/kneepads.

I'd always reccomend to bring your own ride, but if you do end up on a friends bike, make sure that the bike and it's papers are in order. Would you hesitate to do the same with your vehicle? It's as simple as that.

Hope im not being rude here..

No bro why would consider it being rude. I'm hear to learn first. As you said I have been thinking of saving up for riding gears. And yes you are right. Its always better to bring one's one ride. Realised that too.
