We were all on the road side parking opp to Bella Ciao board, the usual place for years.

We were looking for a bunch of bikes parked, we didnt see so we went near the police booth and had ice cream :/

Ha ha. Happens. It happened with me too first time around.
BTW, you should start looking for bike(r)s from the paint ball range to Bella Ciao. Sometimes, parking space isn't enough opposite B.C. and riders park nearby (in the paint ball range lane.)

When are you planning it?

Not sure who qualifies as a Newbie on your post. But, As a suggestion:

1. Gain More experience riding long distance "Endurance" riding.
2. Please do not qualify Chennai - Mahabs - Pondy rides into your list
3. Read through [MENTION=26407]aargee[/MENTION] 's post on SaddleSore.
4. Attempt a recce ride - Like a Chennai - Madurai - Chennai ride. You will know where you stand.
5. Do Not Push. Iron Butt is not the end of anything. You can always re attempt - but one bad move may turn FATAL!
6. Do not attempt SS in Summer. You will Dehydrate way tooo much!

Evening would be better IMO. I did it twice in 2011, once in the morning and one in the afternoon types.
I manged getting a boat ride for about 35 mins in just 50 bucks at around 4:30 PM when they were catching fish. I loved that experience of boating + fishing + admiring the sunset later.

Ezil, heard that the public abusing the wall which we passby so bad that not worth keeping the foot. I'm not sure how it is today. Alternatively have a plan to just crack through the ways to the beach, something like offroad. You'll love it. If I'm able to wake up, will join you.
