A turbocharged KTM RC390 was showcased at the Qatar Motor Show 2016 by Performance Technologies. Nicola Bragagnolo, founder of Performance Technologies had earlier worked on the Yamaha R3 to bring out a turbocharged Yammie, this time it was the Austrian counterpart to win the affections of the turbocharger!
The idea of the team that has developed these two motorcycles was to bring incredible performance to these small capacity bikes at affordable prices. The bikes in question are the Yamaha R3, KTM RC390 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300. The latter still in the pipeline. They wanted to bring the latest European technology to the Asian markets where small displacement motorcycles still rule the roost.
The team felt that Turbocharging the motorcycle was the simplest way to boost the power of these bikes as no major changes were required to be made to the working of the bike, only the intake system had to be modified. The power figures of this KTM are not known as yet but is expected to be in the same ballpark as that on the turbocharged Yamaha R3 around 60PS. Which is incredible! These bikes are hoped to homologated for street use as well. So the increased power of the bikes will be made within the same Rev Limit as set by the factory.
Mario Lega, Allesandro Cino and Nicolo Bragagnolo are the three guys behind this project.
The Yamaha R3 Turbo which was showcased last year. The bike used many components which were hand crafted and built to be sold within 10000Euros to the public. The bike was claimed to be able to give even a Moto3 bike a run for its money! The R3 was said to produce 60Ps at 10000rpm.
