Ritsert Mans, a designer from Netherlands and his scientist friend Peter Mooij has worked on the project of making a motorcycle which runs on Algae Oil.
The highlights of this project are 1) Algae Oil has been used as a fuel instead of using regular automotive fuels like petrol, diesel, etc. 2) The Wooden body part of the motorcycle. Basically, Peter was working on the engine part to make it run with Algae Oil and Ritsert had an idea to make the body parts of the motorcycle completely by wood.
Recently Ritsert has released a video of testing the wooden motorcycle beside the seashore and it was awesome to see the wooden motorcycle runs on Algae Oil, a completely green product, rolling on the sand.
In the video, Ritsert says, “Peter, a friend of mine, developed a method for growing algae on a natural way. I have created this motorcycle using the same philosophy. Peter looked for a way to make algae oil appeal to the imagination and that’s when I started developing this motorcycle, build from natural materials and this is the result.
Peter grows the algae on salt water, so the beach seemed a perfect place to test the bike just like they did in the early 1990s. That era appeals to me that in those days, it was unclear what the future of mobility would look like, Trains ran on coil, there were electric cars, there were cars on petrol, on diesel. No one knew what was going to stick. Actually, that’s no different today.
People don’t know what the world will look like in 30 years in terms of transportation and energy. That uncertainty is also beautiful, it is a whole new adventure. Everyone can develop and build their own ideas and I think it’s important to emphasize that adventure.”
As Ritsert says, we can’t predict the future of the automobile industry especially the energy on what the transportation will happen. But for sure, it is an appreciable work done by Ritsert Mans and Peter Mooij.
