Humanity vs COVID-19: #DoThe5 | #DoTheX | Power of Masks | xBhp Task Force

The COVID-19 or Coronavirus has become a global pandemic. While things like these have happened before, one is forced to think about all the advancements that have made. Healthcare and medical science have come such a long way and yet, something like this just shows up one day threatens to wipe us out.

It is truly amazing (and scary too) that such a small thing possesses the capability to throw an entire advanced and so-called intelligent species into disarray. With worldwide lockdowns and economies in shambles, nature (we hope it is nature) has its way of showing us who’s the boss.

But when you really think about it, it is relatively easy to give yourself the best kind of protection against this virus. Here’s our version of a few things that can be done to keep yourself safe.

First of all, #DoThe5.

From WHO: Wash your hands frequently Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands. In the photo: The mighty Hayabusa with the xBhp print magazine.

From WHO: Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

Listen to your government and the COPS! Also, From WHO: Maintain social distancing Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing. Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain the virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease. Since we are talking about social distancing, here’s something you can try. Something from xBhp’s past which works as a means of social distancing without hurting the sense of camaraderie among motorcyclists; #DoTheX. Making an ‘X’ using our hands has been a call sign of sorts for xBhpians since 2002. So, next time you meet a motorcyclist, #DoTheX.

Disclaimer: All the photos that you are about to see are of our ‘social gatherings’ in the past. In light of the current situation pertaining to the Coronavirus, we’d advise you to stick to riding solo. We’d like to urge everyone to practice hygiene and stay safe.

From WHO: Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately. Why? Droplets spread the virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.

The best advice is to stay at home. India has declared a complete lockdown till the 14th of April. Please pay heed to it!

And since we are stuck at home, we’ve been letting our hyperactive imagination run wild and here are a few things that we came up with.

A medically approved mask is a big tool in fighting #COVID19 or #CoronaVirus as it is popularly known. Our governments and other civic agencies have been reminding people again and again on the importance of using a mask to cover their face. Unfortunately, this has also led to a situation of panic buying of masks and there are also reports of black marketing of masks in the country!

Here are some pointers from WHO on the proper usage of a mask to fight the Corona Virus:

And while we are at it, we also thought what if these medical masks and also motorcycle helmets were as cool as the ones that we have in our collection at the xBhp Community HQ. Probably we would have more people wearing them, and also adopting proper do’s and dont’s of wearing a mask.

Let us also take this opportunity to thank all the riding gear manufacturers like Rynox Gears for keeping us, the motorcyclists, safe!

And finally, xBhp’s COVID-19 Taskforce
