      • I am in Paris right now, the normal Petrol costs 1.29 Euros thats about Rs.80. I think we in India pay less for fuel compared to most countries.

Euro 1.29 in France is nothing when compared to Rs 55 in India (i speak in PPP terms)...It is not at all cheap!!!!!
On the other hand keeping price in accordance with world market price is always healthy for an economy that even so big, but then the thing is that even private refineries are getting heavily subsidized...so any price increase without stopping the subsidies to those refineries is THUMBS DOWN

            • The big picture is the fuel cost was much less here and they have increased in last 2 years, this is happening globally, not just in India. India does not produce all the required fuel, India imports them.

Every Country In the world Imports Oil from Mid-East countries.
India only produces about 12% of its total requirement of oil!

                          • Guys. the division of the cost of the petrol is so very complex. the actual cost of the litre is around 28 rupees including shipping. The rest is Taxes. I mean 14 rupees or so is import duty and the rest is state tax and blah blah. I have been watching stock markets closely. I have always been a student of finance so i do observe the Economy of the Country. During the recent crisis which led to a very steep fall in oil prices. The oil was as cheaper as rs 10 per liter in Indian currency. The government companies according to a source purchased so much during these times that the fuel is enough for the next 5 years for the entire nation. In fact corrupt politicians also have purchased large amounts of fuel or crude shares from the International markets. The prices have just increased in India. And as some1 is comparing the European nations , guys the inflation over there is quite high in ratio of the salary.I mean those guys do not mind paying huge chunks of money because their income is high.

Buddy next time ask the Petrol Pump attendant how much salary he earns. It must be surely more than what our BPOs earn in india.
