Default Shimla Beautiful..

A brief introductin of Shimla.

Originally called Simla, is the capital city of Himachal Pradesh.
In 1864, Shimla was declared the summer capital of the British Raj in India.
A popular tourist destination, Shimla is often referred to as the "Queen of Hills" (a term coined by the British).
Located in the north-west Himalayas at an altitude of 2,128 metres (6,982ft),
the city of Shimla, draped in forests of pine, rhododendron, and oak, experiences pleasant summers and cold, snowy winters.
The city is famous for its buildings styled in tudorbethan and neo-gothic architecture dating from the colonial era.
Shimla is connected to the city of Kalka by one of the longest narrow gauge railway routes still operating in India, the Kalka-Shimla Railway.
Shimla is approximately 115 km (71.4 miles) from Chandigarh, the nearest major city, and 365 km (226.8 miles) from New Delhi, the national capital. The city is named after the goddess Shyamala Devi, an incarnation of the Hindu Goddess Kali.

Source: Wikipedia.

I am born in Shimla and I am proud of my city.
I hereby present some of the beautiful photographs of my beautiful hometown Shimla..(clicked by me)
NOTE: I am not a photographer, but still I love to capture the beauty of my lovely hometown in my camera.

here is a teaser, rest of the pics. after approval.

Yes yes.. i have the same question. Pics like these fool us into going upto shimla every now and then to experience the snow :-) And i have never been lucky in Shimla with regards to snow

@Mod: Can we have a seperate thread about various places. No OT comments, just info on those places by people who live/have been there. Most of the content is already there in various travelogues, but this could be a centralized xbhp-wikitravel kind of place.

Default 3 day chakrata - Tehri ride.

This particular ride is very leisurely paced.

Day 1: Delhi - Yamuna Nagar - Paonta Sahib - Chakrata
Horrible roads. I would advise people to take the diversion from Ambala which has better roads.
Time taken: 8 hours max
Leave early to get a dekko at tiger falls ( which is 14 km further down from chakrata)

Day 2: Chakrata- Devban - Chakrata - Mussoorie - Chamba (U.K) - Tehri - Stay at Chamba.

Go upto Devban ( doable but tough with pillion)
From Chakrata to Mussoorie - beautiful single lane road going through hilly villages and no traffic at all. Markers are an issue. Tip: Take the older road or just wait for villager directions :-)
Mussoorie to Chamba-Tehri beautiful roads. Take a dekko of the Tehri lake and the dam. Ride back to Chamba.

Time taken: sunrise to sun down.

Day 3:
Chamba - Rishikesh - Delhi

Chamba to Narendranagar stretch is beautiful and gives an amazing view of the plains. Rishikesh is bypassed if you take the Narendranagar route and then its the familiar ride back through Khatauli - Canal road - Muradnagar - Delhi

Time taken : 7 hours
