There are often occasions when we manage to club a day or two alongwith the weekend which can give us a window of riding out of Delhi to find biking freedom. I am trying to create this for people who can talk about such possibilities with their knowledge and experience.

Here we are looking for destinations which are more than just Jaipur and Agra which ofcourse exist... but we are looking at slightly offbeat places. Off the beaten track.

1.One such destination would be Chakrata as seen and neatly elaborated here by our Aryan in his thread here: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/tourer/6...ikers-way.html

2.If you are looking to ride fast straights and curves on the Aravalis and get some Royalty to visit, you can have a look here: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/tourer/6...arh-mahal.html
It is true that I did that tour on a Sbk, but you really do not need a Sbk to do such a tour. You can easily do it with any bike really. This will not take you more than 3 days as you will get from the narration above. You can get rooms from 4K/Night/room upwards if you are looking at the amount you are going to spend. Every moment spent in this place is quite interesting. Do not forget to pack your swimsuits.

3.Another possibility would be to head towards Himachal:
    Day1: Delhi-Manali
    Day2: Manali-Rohtang-Gramphu-Chandratal, photographs and back.
    Day3: Chill, maybe Nagar etc.
    Day4: Manali-Delhi.

My take, do not stay at Manali. I always say this. But it is worth it. Stay at Vashist, 5kms away from the Lajpat Nagar type hustle and bustle of Manali and its teeming tourists.

ust remember that Gramphu-Chandratal is NOT easy. But I am sure, with your enthusiasm it will be fine. Just preparing you mentally. Once you reach Chandratal, you will realise that you should be carrying an extra battery set and 4 more GB of space!!!

And if you plan to stay put at Vashist, there is a lovely Water Fall. It is called Jogini Falls. There is one lower and easy access. That is not the "Real" fall. That is the touristy one. For the real Jogini Falls, one has to make an effort to get up there. Takes a good hour of walking. But then again... every metre walked is worth its weight in salt in sweat and tears!

4.For those willing to exploit the desert and the dunes can have a look here http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/tourer/6...une-quest.html Now this took 4 days through some great rocky terrain, lot of nice landscapes of arid vegetation of acacia, some dunes and some more if you go to Sam Dunes, 40kms beyond Jaisalmer or to Khuri Village... and then maybe do a camel ride and let your bike take a well deserved rest.

    5. Have a look here as well: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/190321-post17.html

    6. Have a look here as well: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/tourer/8...tiated-no.html

    7. Another one added here: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/tourer/9...-beats-r1.html

    8. Yet one more: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/291679-post79.html This is however not for first timer bikers looking to go to the hills.

    9. Delhi - Rewalsar Lake: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/334546-post82.html

    10. One more added in Dec 2009: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/337991-post84.html

    11. One done by Shamik here: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/tourer/1...ts-kumaon.html

I will put this post up to begin with and I hope others will add on...

Edit; putting in an edit here, there might be several of these edits as time goes by and I will put in the links in the first post itself which will help people locate the destinations more easily.

This one looks fine to me. Though I can start on thursday itself & I will....

probably a little editing by me on the route can be done.

My problem is that my friend are out for first time on a trip..... and I don't want to make it that challenging for them.

Aryan - pics have been resized. let me know if any other suggestion comes up......

Manali-Chandrataal-Manali may not be possible in one day, gramphoo-kunzum takes the wind out of you!

        And addition from my side:

        Day1: Delhi - Shimla/Narkanda
        Day2: Shimla/Narkanda - Rohru (Pabbar valley)
        Day3: Rohru-tiuni-Chakrata
        Day4: Chakrata-Delhi

The pabbar valley is a must see! Add a day more and you could visit Chanshal Pass, around 35 kms from Rohru.

The chakrata tiuni marg is pretty scenic, double it up with offroading fun that would be available aplenty!

I am currently based in chandigarh, so i did the above mentioned trip friday-sat-sunday. From delhi, you might need an extra day.

Not much of a photographer but nonetheless, a few pics...

That is lovely. Now if you could edit your post to add a picture of the place, that would be the icing!

Vashist-Chandrataal is tough but gettable. Else, if you think it is too tough, spend the night at Losar and get back the next day. And then the following day back to Delhi. The hot spring at Vashist will soothe the tired body and the spirits in the evening will soothe the tired mind!

Trust me, I would personally have no qualms in doing manali-chandrataal-manali in one day, but i was voicing out the general opinion.
Coming back you could also stay at chotta-dhara, alongside the river. I think it has a PWD guest house. Ideal for camping as well.

That is lovely. Now if you could edit your post to add a picture of the place, that would be the icing!
Sure, will post some in a while!

One addition for a Kumaon ride from my side. Strictly 3 days.

Day 1 : Delhi-Moradabad-Nainital(avoid kathgodam route. Take the bazpur road route)-almora-binsar-bageshwar
              Not exact: But almost 400km.
Day 2: Bageshwar-Chakori(Awesome ride. One of the best i have been through)- Ghat-Pithoragarh(Ghat to pithoragarh is also superb)
              Not Exact: But almost 250km.
              Day 3: Pithoragarh-Delhi.
              500 km approx.

Will post some pics from home. This was on old xbhp.

For those who are looking for just a weekend off-the-beaten track getaway not too far, there is this magnificent palace called Samode Palace a little off the NH8 after crossing Chandwaji and taking right, 250kms from Delhi. It used to be the domain of the Prime Minister of Sawai Jai Singh II, founder of Jaipur. Lovely castle, not cheap, mostly suites, starting at 5.5K/Night, luxurious stuff, great abode, a bit steep, but worth it for a romantic weekend night out!

Lovely swimming pool merging into the background Aravalis!

The kiosk at the left is the jacuzzi. Sit there and order a gin & tonic. You will have fun soaking in the ambience.

For those who in love with the mountains and want a laid back weekend amidts nature, shoja is ideal. You could:

                    Day1: Delhi(Leave early) - Narkanda - Jalori Jot -Shoja.(Around 500 kms, would take you about,say, 12 hrs)

Day2: Go up to Jalori pass and trek to Serloskar lake. Around 5 kms, easy paced. Its a gem in the middle of the jungle, a treat to the eyes!

                    Day3: Shoja - Aut - Mandi - Bilaspur - Chandigarh - Delhi.

I ll try digging out some photos..

                      Thanks. Two questions...

                      1. How are the roads from Narkanda-Shoja and Shoja-Aut?

                      2. How much time would Day2 activity take?

This sounds interesting for the Easter Hols coming up if I do not go rafting for the umpteenth time...

1)Narkanda-Shoja is around 85 kms. Till Sainj, you would stay on the NH22, from there you would turn left for jalori. This road is quite narrow but its good. Five kms before and after the pass, the road is bad and steep!

                        Shoja-Aut is similar.

                        2) Bike up 5 kms to jalori from shoja. The trek takes around 2.5-3 hrs one side. So it would be a day affair.
