bhakhra is not a problem right now and no permit issues if u go anadpur- naina devi-bhakhra road.

The only thing that u cannot cross the bridge, the dam...not even on foot. While approaching the dma u have to go downhill and then come back via another bridge to the other side of dam... But man....that is awesome i say...u see the barrage, the gates, the vastness of the dam...

must do ....must go...

@diablo:You can post a summarized info here about route taken and places of interest for preliminary reference.
Though, a descriptive log will be highly appreciated mate.
So, you rode down there on RTR or ZMR ?

Regards
Sarab

thats an awesome one diablo.... i love that route...and man hattd off u also did deoban...thats the fun of it...going merely chakrata is not worth...

The route to chakrata is mainly from delhi- bagpat-sarahanpur-herebetpur-chakrata...

another one is from delhi- mussurie- chakrata...

ahead of chakrata is some seriosu offroading and riding fun...

I sincerelya dvise people who can take a 5 days time msut do to chakrata and people who are intersted in camping shud go furhter to deoban/ kanasar/ budhergufa... ahead of chakrata is tiuni - hatkoti-rohru.

Now after rohru there is no road and one have to either come back or either head to narkanda via hatu peak/ bagi,koti... The road ahead of rohru is also explorable but i advise not to be lone ( as i done in my case)....the severe amount of growlings and roars can give ur spine a chill...

Well i recommened a place called Chansal pass enroute rohru - dadra-kwar.. only a few know about this route but the people who have a zeal to conquer passes...its a must do for them too... its all different pass but again its a dead end after kwar and u have to come back only....

u can also go ahead from rohru to rampur via ....

m sorry i think this is a too much info but i simply cant hold myself from explaing...i liek and i love himachal so much that i covered entire eastern hiamchal for two months and know many circuits/ routes there...

will be more then happy to assist anybody interested....

P.S. : m very bad at remebering the places names once i visit there...

Here we are looking for destinations which are more than just Jaipur and Agra which ofcourse exist... but we are looking at slightly offbeat places. Off the beaten track.

1.One such destination would be Chakrata as seen and neatly elaborated here by our Aryan in his thread here: Breaking the Chakrata Jinx - Biker's Way!

2.If you are looking to ride fast straights and curves on the Aravalis and get some Royalty to visit, you can have a look here: Rajasthan Royal Retreat: DEOGARH MAHAL!
It is true that I did that tour on a Sbk, but you really do not need a Sbk to do such a tour. You can easily do it with any bike really. This will not take you more than 3 days as you will get from the narration above. You can get rooms from 4K/Night/room upwards if you are looking at the amount you are going to spend. Every moment spent in this place is quite interesting. Do not forget to pack your swimsuits.

3.Another possibility would be to head towards Himachal:
Day1: Delhi-Manali
Day2: Manali-Rohtang-Gramphu-Chandratal, photographs and back.
Day3: Chill, maybe Nagar etc.
Day4: Manali-Delhi.

My take, do not stay at Manali. I always say this. But it is worth it. Stay at Vashist, 5kms away from the Lajpat Nagar type hustle and bustle of Manali and its teeming tourists.

ust remember that Gramphu-Chandratal is NOT easy. But I am sure, with your enthusiasm it will be fine. Just preparing you mentally. Once you reach Chandratal, you will realise that you should be carrying an extra battery set and 4 more GB of space!!!

And if you plan to stay put at Vashist, there is a lovely Water Fall. It is called Jogini Falls. There is one lower and easy access. That is not the "Real" fall. That is the touristy one. For the real Jogini Falls, one has to make an effort to get up there. Takes a good hour of walking. But then again... every metre walked is worth its weight in salt in sweat and tears!

4.For those willing to exploit the desert and the dunes can have a look here The 4 Day Dune Quest Now this took 4 days through some great rocky terrain, lot of nice landscapes of arid vegetation of acacia, some dunes and some more if you go to Sam Dunes, 40kms beyond Jaisalmer or to Khuri Village... and then maybe do a camel ride and let your bike take a well deserved rest.

5. Have a look here as well: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/190321-post17.html

6. Have a look here as well: Quest to chandra taal. Satiated???.......no!

7. Another one added here: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/tourer/9...-beats-r1.html

8. Yet one more: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/291679-post79.html This is however not for first timer bikers looking to go to the hills.

9. Delhi - Rewalsar Lake: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/334546-post82.html

10. One more added in Dec 2009: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/337991-post84.html

11. One done by Shamik here: Secrets of Kumaon

I will put this post up to begin with and I hope others will add on...

Edit; putting in an edit here, there might be several of these edits as time goes by and I will put in the links in the first post itself which will help people locate the destinations more easily.
Another interesting weekend gateway nearby delhi can be Jim Corbett National Park.
Actually did spent 2N/3D this holi at corbett and is approx.300 kms from delhi.
Was a nice place indeed to visit the land of tigers, enjoy jungle safari and ride your bike along the open forest mountains visiting places like Girja mandir,Corbett Falls, corbett museum and breaking some rules driving into the rough terrains of the forest/along the rivers.

Route::delhi>hapur>gajraula>moradabad/rampur>kashipur>ramnagar>Corbett Park

Smile Planning a trip from Delhi-Shimla-Delhi

Hi All,

I am planning a trip to Shimla from Delhi, just wanted to know about traffic and road conditions from Kalka to Shimla. How much traffic can I expect, would roads be clear enough to enjoy the ride?

Thanks..

Apart from the first few km of traffic in parwanoo and in Kalka, you won't face any traffic problems unless its a weekend morning (bikes still have enough space)
Road conditions are perfect apart from a few hundred meters just outside of parwanoo and a few patches near solan. Solan to Shimla is awesome for some cornering fun with very sparse traffic.
