2015 MotoGP Champion Jorge Lorenzo has signed up with Shark Helmets for the next three years to race in MotoGP.
3 time Spanish MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo announced the start of his association with French helmet manufacturer Shark Helmets. Lorenzo had previously been using helmets from the Korean manufacturer HJC and had suffered a couple of problems with them in the 2015 round. At the opening round at Qatar, his helmet lining had come loose forcing him to slow down and give up the lead and ending up the race in 4th. In the wet conditions of Silverstone later on in the season, Jorge once again suffered helmet woes as his helmet fogged up, though he didn’t use a breath deflector unlike other riders on the grid. After these two incidents it was widely expected that the reigning MotoGP Champion would end his 3 year association with HJC, especially since the contract was expiring in 2015 and was subject to renewal.
Shark Helmets already has considerable experience in racing at the top with Scott Redding already using their helmets in MotoGP and Moto2 Champion Johann Zarco. This helped make Lorenzo’s decision as there was surety of top of the line technology and support from the company. Shark Helmets & Jorge Lorenzo will be hoping for a fruitful three seasons for both.
Lorenzo will be wearing the Race-R PRO, SHARK’s flagship product, in all races. This model, symbolic of the French helmet brand, is acknowledged to be one of the safest on the market. It features unrivalled optical properties and incomparable aerodynamics. Nowadays, the Race-R PRO is best known in motorcycle World Championships, with over 150 podiums to its credit.
Jorge Lorenzo, five-times World Champion: “I am very proud to be tackling the forthcoming seasons with such a prestigious brand as SHARK, which has a long history in MotoGP. For me, this represents a most exciting challenge and I am quite sure that, together, we will form a great team. I really hope that I can reward all this confidence they have placed in me with some major successes.”
Chairman of SHARK, Patrick Francois: “We are very proud of the trust that Jorge Lorenzo has placed in our brand and in our helmets by joining the SHARK Racing Team for the forthcoming seasons of MotoGP. Having the chance to work with such a high-level experienced rider is a real opportunity for our brand, as his skills will enable us to push back the technical boundaries of our products. Jorge is aware that thanks to our leading position in the market for motorcycle equipment, we will be applying all our knowhow and expertise to every race in order to support him and fulfil all his expectations.
