Anyway very good review and very good pics and i have some more queries. Does it have full DC lighting? What is the compression ratio? (asking because it is an aluminium engine and Suzuki is claiming much more mileage than Yamaha FZS which weighs same and has same tyres). How are the gear ratios? short or tall?
Thanks for the feedback Kathi. Will keep that in mind

I don't think it has DC lighting or else it would have been specifically mentioned. Compression Ratio was also not shared with us. Will check with the company for both these things and get back to you.

Though the mileage is claimed to be because of the SEP tech, lighter internals, better scavenging etc.

The bike is geared on the taller side. But because of the bottom end torque it is not a problem riding in traffic.

It has DC Lighting.
I took the test ride twice(only a maximum of 3 kms permitted by the showroom) as I am planning to buy a new motorcycle soon. Over all its a wonderful bike but I don't know the nomenclature to explain things about it.
A week after its official launch(selling was started on 5th sep at my place) there is no emphasis nor enthusiasm about Gixxer in xbhp & I wonder why.

I would seriously expect a rear disc option, if they do this will be a awesome 150cc package. I am a 6 footer, so the looks may not be good on me... but I will still go for it if the rear disc is provided.

Kudos to Suzuki Folks!

Hi. Thanks for the detailed review. I test rode Gixxer in Bangalore a week ago and I was impressed - OK type. I own a Honda Unicorn (1 year old) and am very happy with its performance. Reliability, its engineering, looks, mileage etc. Now, after riding Gixxer I gave a serious thought of selling my trustworthy and iconic (and one of the most reliable bikes on Indian roads) Unicorn and buy Gixxer. Is it worth a gamble ?

I drive about 30 kms a day (between 50-60 / hr) and once in a while a long drive - Bangalore - Mysore which is 150+ kms. My Unicorn performs really well and it clocks 110km/hr easily in highways (en route Mysore) without any vibration or shaking ( I haven't gone above 110) - I was amazed at its riding quality and Honda's engineering. I drive at 100 km / hr speed rarely, but I do. Even at 110 my Unicorn behaved very normal and I didn't feel I am reaching almost its max speed limit and should reduce the speed. Instead I wanted to accelerate more and my bike was ready to take more, but the traffic conditions were not right. So, to sum up, Honda's reliability, engineering and performance is tested, tried and proven (talking about their bikes in India), but I have no much exposure to Suzuki bikes. Should I leave Unicorn and buy Gixxer (I'm very much impressed at Gixxer's looks) ? Can Gixxer substitute Unicorn's reputation and reliability ?

Why should I, why I should not.. Please help .. !

The Gixxer overall feels like a far better bike as compared to the Unicorn. And the fact that it comes from the Suzuki stable inspires confidence even though this bike has not clocked any meaningful miles by owners. If you were a new buyer, yes i would advise you to give it a try. But since you already own a good bike in the same category which is relatively new, i would suggest you to keep your motorcycle, save up and after a couple of years upgrade.

The financial loss of selling the unicorn and buying the Gixxer wouldn't make sense just for a change in looks! Of course the final decision rests with you.

Last year, FZ was a good looking bike, and similar to Gixxer. Think about why you chose Unicorn over it that time. That could perhaps help you decide if you should or should not buy Gixxer. BTW FZ-FI is another option. Test ride it too before deciding!

I don't know what is your perception about vibration.
A single cylinder 150 cc engine without a balancer shaft at those speeds would definitely vibrate.

suzuzki gixxer with a balancer shaft (yamaha FZS also has it) and grippy MRF tyres would definitely be lot less vibrating and more stable than a Honda unicorn at those speeds.
Not that Honda unicorn is a bad bike but these 150cc bikes are not designed to run continuously at those speeds daily.

But i second with The Monk.
keep the unicorn and update to something much better after some years.

ASS for a bike is not that much required but availability of parts is always a question for Suzuki.

It is clearly visible that the design reference are from FZ. It just took the cues, slightly modified and released. We can see this in every part even in console meter.

In that case the open chain case will harm the chain right?

My friend is about to buy gixxer but confused about the reliability of the suzuki engine.
How is the reliability of the suzuki engine & smoothness does it perform same like the honda ones???

Honda trigger & gixxer which is the better pick when it comes to the factors like :-
1)Engine refinement
2) Engine reliability
3) Good performance
4) Good FE

In the review of the powerdrift they said that even at higher rpms gixxer's engine doesnt feel any vibrations even at close to rev limter is it true?

Is it smoother than the FZ?

Even a P220 rider like me is also tempted towards the gixxer great job by suzuki team hatss off
