Sorry bro, I didnt mean it in a literal sense. Just got kinda irritated with the Android hype, and people who have no technical knowledge of the same praising it for no reason to backup their claims other than the ad's they see on TV, I believe thats the height of ignorance. Just like a biker owning an R1 would get irritated if a poser with an R15 says his is also a SuperBike cause its got a fairing too. I genuinely meant no disrespect to anyone, I'm also currently using Android and I like it too, due to its userfriendliness and the feeling of constantly being connected, but at the same time I do realize its limitations and hence respect them.

              2. Just bought a smartphone to brag around and be cool, and to show everyone your smart enough to use a smartphone,by downloading some crappy apps that's provided in the store.
              @all,
can u list down the advantages of rooting a phone??
Going by the discussion, it seems that we can get a paid app free of cost by rooting a phone. How's that possible?

That's as simple as you download a pirated software from internet and install it on your pc.. all you have to do is download the apk from any website ( just google it or join 2-3 android apps forums ) and install ir either directly on phone or copy it though your pc to cell and install it..

Rooting has other benifits too.. you can backup all the apps abd their data through titanium backup pro... you can install crygon mod as firmware if your stock rom is slow and buggy

Ask me any question if you have doubts in your mind

                  Regards

ok, got it. its simple enough. But for this it doesnt seem rooting of phone is required, as i'm downloading the app from the pC itself.

I also read that rooting process is quite difficult, and if not properly rooted, then ur phone is gone forever.
No idea abt CRYGON mod. pls explain
also is it posible to increase the stock ram by rooting??
                    Replies in bold.

PS- am still not an owner of android, but soon to be 1 after some research.

Nah.. Its not that difficult.. Now you get bullet proof steps to root/unroot your phone. Or install new ROM, kernels, etc.
Once you start trying new ROMs, you shall be addicted & would never ever go back to stock ROM..
And yes.. Its Cyanogen Mod. One of the most popular & stable rom, which will take your phone to a new level.
Read some of its features: About the project | CyanogenMod
Then there are many developers make ROMs based on Cyanogen. XDA is the best place to be if you want to know anything about ROOTING

Lol bro, dont guarantee that. I've been running on Creed since I got the phone yesterday, tried many more and they all seemed crappy so switching back to stock, and as a matter of fact am downloading the complete odin file pack as we speak.

Cyanogen is the best, even the gfx are precision perfect, I've used it on a Dell XCD35, but unfortunately the Galaxy Y doesnt support it.

                          • Tanks to all. Looks like I have lot to catch up on smart phones.
most of the things you all mentioned went way over my head, but i got the hint of it.

Right now my investment will be on Pulsar 200NS, and right after that have planned for a good smart phone(which will be 5-6 mnths from now)
will surf all those sites within those sites, to gain a better understanding.

lol..Yes.. not all ROM's are the best ones. Many with flaws & some features not working. But some are really brilliant. Mostly I love Cyanogen based ones, they are just awesome.
Now its an addict, to keep changing one until you see the new ones on xda with tempting screen shots & feature list

                              • Guys, please chill and avoid the Symbian vs Android wars. Each has its shortcomings and specialities.
And while it might be easy to pick an overall winner among the two, the same doesn't hold right for anyone and everyone. People have different needs. Thanks.
