Tried navigating to next street (using tap destination on map), it never showed the map & only kept showing the transit steps

If you have WiFi in your home you can save few miles of map locally on your phone. Go to maps and click the menu button, you will find an option 'make available offline' choose that option and you can save up to 10 tiles of map data. I have half of Tamil nadu saved. Try it.Originally posted by aargee View PostTried navigating to next street (using tap destination on map), it never showed the map & only kept showing the transit steps

Sorry for back to back posts. For those who are not able to tolerate Google Navigation voice and find very annoying and robotic, please try this free app 'IVONA Text to Speech' and 'IVONA Kendra US English beta'. After installation go to settings > language and input > text to speech output and choose IVONA. Voila now the voice response is natural.
Downside is the size, it's 200mb.

Altough ninja4.0 has a 1Ghz processor, the RAM is not of high capacity. So high graphics game might not work. And it's too new a phone to speculate about it's functioning. I would suggest to wait for some time to know more about this phone.Originally posted by siddhesh View PostNinja 4 seems gud at the price of 6k ...guys would it support gmaps n games like temple run as htc explorer, galaxy y doesnt support it.my budget is 6-10k max pls suggest me gud fone.my basic needs are gud navigation, anroid.how is newly launched ninja 4 and sony xperia tipo..Sony Xperia Tipo: Price in India, Reviews, Specification: Flipkart.comsigpicRelationships change, evolve, and it goes deep.

Ninja 4(A87) has just a 2 MPix camera and 4" screen.Originally posted by siddhesh View PostNinja 4 seems gud at the price of 6k ...guys would it support gmaps n games like temple run as htc explorer, galaxy y doesnt support it.my budget is 6-10k max pls suggest me gud fone.my basic needs are gud navigation, anroid.how is newly launched ninja 4 and sony xperia tipo..Sony Xperia Tipo: Price in India, Reviews, Specification: Flipkart.com
By comparison Ninja 3 (A57) has a 3 Mpix camera and a 3.5" screen.
The rest of the specs look identical with Dual Sim Dual Standby, 1 GHz processor and 256MB RAM on both. The clincher I feel is the Rs.4850 pricetag and the 3Mpix camera of the Ninja 3 as compared to Ninja 4 which retails for Rs.5990. So if you do not feel the need of a battery hog 4" screen, pick the Ninja 3 over the Ninja 4 since both offer better specs than the pricier Galaxy Y.
P.S.: As long as you do not expect Galaxy S rivaling performance from phones costing 5/6k, you should be good to go. The specs of these phones are very much comparable to those of the Samsung Galaxy Ace which still costs over 10k. You can buy 2 * Ninja 3s for that price.Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

The following review was written by a friend. Quite extensively reviewed. Hope it can help some more people around here.

Sorry for the wait but had to observe the product for at least a week before the review
For detail technical specs, below is the link
Micromax A100 - User opinions and reviews
Preface:
1. This review is not aimed at comparing the A100 to a Samsung S3 / Note but just to explain what it can do and what it cant,
BUT this phone is a competitor to ther phones placed in price bracket of 14-18k
2. This is a long review so have patience
Need for a new phone
Well my Nokia, after serving me for 4 years, started having battery and OS issues whereby the phone started freezing up and also sudden shutdowns in middle of calls
I thought it was time to find a replacement and quite frankly the Symbian S60 on that phone was doing no good
Options considered
1. Samsung Omnia W / Lumia - Bunch of my friends have windows phones and the UI is pretty intuitive and already having a Samsung Galaxy Y running Android 2.3, it meant i could venture out to the Windows Mobile world but then when i did some research found that Windows OS is a few features short for the price they demanded
2. Another Samsung Galaxy Y - Sounds crazy but the way my existing Y was performing, i wont have to worry but still had second thoughts
3. Samsung Galaxy S3 / Note: Well folks, don't tell me you never face this dilemma, one night suddenly you feel why not invest in the best hardware? We deserve it.... BUT then I calmed myself down by asking a simple question "What do you really need this phone for ?" and the answer was
1. Email (Personal) - I have multiple Gmail / Hotmail accounts so having an IMAP view helps me big time
2. Email (Office) - Being in a critical role means need to check those client emails frequently using webmail, Also my company has an app built for Android / iOS(nothing mentioned for Windows, again a reason to give it a miss)
3. Office Work - Need a big screen to view and work on those PPT's or word documents on the Go
4. Social Network - Come one, in this dynamic world need to be in sync with my friends on FB / Twitter / G+
5. Good network and Long conference calls, hence good call clarity
Finally, one day one of my fellow TBHP'ians Avinash Acharya mentioned about this phone, I was a little skeptical in the beginning but read decent reviews on Flipkart and boy i was also surpised by the Hype it had created, the product was sold out and out of stock there, read more and since it was Onam eve, went to Croma to buy it (only 3 pieces left)
Got it for INR 9999, also purchased a 16GB Sandisk card for INR 500
Initial Impressions
What they got right
1. BIGGGGG Screen - at 5", the screen is big and resolution is not bad either,
2. Looks - design is a copy from S3 and Micromax have played it smart by leaving the front face blank, not even the brand Logo, the rear is a neat touch too, with a 5MP camera + LED Flash and Micromax Logo (Thank god manufacturers stopped using that "Google" logo, it used to look so wierd)
3. Pricing - Need i say more
4. Battery - 2000mAH, more on that later
5. Dual Sim - No need to carry 2 phones
6. ICS 4.0.4
7. Noise Cancelling Mic
What is missing
As some people say, there is no point in Grumbling about what is not there, but that's our nature so cant help it
1. AMOLED Screen - I dont mind them charging a little more if they would have provided us an AMOLED with Gorilla Glass, a screen this size needs it
2. Poor Headphones - The bundled ones are pathetic, Thank god i have my Sennheiser so no worries for me here
3. AISHA Bot - have heard good things so putting it here wont have hurt them
4. Dual Core - It is said this version will be launched in Sept, but looking at the sales, they wont mind delaying the launch a bit
What is shocking
No UI Enhancements - Micromax decided to ship this with plain ICS, no UI touches like we have it on HTC-Sense or Samsung-Touchwiz and tell you what, these things are dearly missed once you are habituated to it
Just imagine, No task manager by default and the PEOPLE app for contacts is useless, no ways you can merge duplicate contacts etc, It is not Micromax at fault but still..now i need to install something from App store
The Hype: Below are a few statements you might hear
1. It is competition to Galaxy Note: Nah, not even close, dont fall for it
2. "It has a lot of apps preloaded": Let me get this straight, if you have apps u will use it over internet, once you are on internet anyways you can download all such apps for free like FB,evernote, GMAIL etc, and they have given a few more apps like MStore etc.. Who in the world needs them, i call them CRAPWARE
3. "It wont last, it is made in China" - Open any of your phones and see, most of them are now made in China anyways.. OUTSOURCED, it is the QC that matters,I have had a WESPRO phone made in China which lasted 2 years till my dad accidentally broke it
4. Front Camera - at 0.3MP, it does no good
Once i got a grasp of this phone, a few things i did to improve battery life
1. Installed app Go-Power Manager to monitor and manage battery
2. Turned off Auto Rotation, Bluetooth,GPS, WiFi and PacketData - These shortcuts are just a swipe away in case you need them, why be so lazy to keep them on always
Below are the results
Moderate Usage - 3 Days
Heavy usage - 2 days
Lightweight usage - 4.5 days
I know the results are surprising but the big battery really comes handy and has a lot of juice
Call clarity and networks
1. Have been in multiple conference calls, calls done even from Basements / Parking and experienced no call drops
2. WiFi / Bluetooth are working fine and fast
3. Packet data not tried yet, what is interesting is it supports tethering as well
What makes it sluggish: AaaHA, well i had to know its breaking point, so here is what i did; ran dolphin and chrome browser and began playing a youtube video, simultaneously opened a PDF and a word doc, put an app for download and then opened messenger to type a message.. hee hee
that is when the sluggishness was visible, it took the phone an eternity to respond to my gestures and switch between apps.. so if this is the level of multitasking you are looking for, forget this phone and look somewhere else
though i wonder how will a person watch a video while working on a document or reading a book.. just a test, not practically done
Other than that the 1Ghz processor + 512 MB RAM has tried to put up a good show, but i still feel at least 768MB RAM would be better
Final Comments
1. In case you are looking for a decent Dual Sim Android under 10K, this is the best one, it easily beats the big brands in the price bracket of 14-18k and Galaxy Y may soon be history if this model has its way and proves the mettle
2. AHEM, Need big pockets to carry them
Any questions are welcome
