In a nutshell, anyone with a GPS receiver or GPS enabled smartphone can participate in the fun. It's like treasure hunt where we try to locate the hidden cache using GPS coordinates. Free applications are available for both Android and IOS platform. EX: c:geo.

Anyone interested can take this forward as this is one more reason to unleash the nomad in you.

    Fingers crossed.

There are two demo videos in their site www.Geocaching.com. You can check it out. And there are 'n' no of participants videos in YouTube. All you need to do is search for Geocaching.

          • A generic query

            Hi,

Does anybody have concrete idea about International warranty on Mobiles.
I tried searching for it but couldn't get much out of it.

I am planning to get a decent droid phone from US.(It could be a samsung/Sony/HTC) but will I be able to ask for an international warranty on it for some more premium? This is just to have some peace of mind thats all.
If the price difference after the warranty premium is justified then only i will get one from US.

You can save maps locally for few miles. Check settings in the maps app. But for calculating route between two points you need data connection. Once the route is computed you can navigate purely using GPS. But if you deviate from the already calculated route, Google maps will again calculate new route.

This is the downside of it i guess. Probably the only way out for tourers like us is Map My India offline Map purchase..

                • That's true. It's not purely offline. Sygic is the best option available as of now.

A 300 MB 3G pack of Vodafone 3G costs Rs.99 and is valid for 1 month. Works in roaming at no extra charge. The way I see it is, it doesn't matter even if it is online based. At the end of the month (ended 3rd September), I had 113 unused MB of 3G data wasted even though I used it liberally in my Leh ride.

Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

FYI Google turn by turn voice guided navigation was not enabled for India and few other countries till yesterday. I myself had to wait for 2 long years since I got myself a smartphone. We had to resort to Brut and Ownhere modified Google maps for voice guided navigation to work.

It is a big relief now. You are lucky that Navigation works for you after few days of your Smartphone purchase. enjoy...
