@Princebro, aargee Sir and li3ly rascala: Thank you for your valuable input.
My initial plan was to buy a phone that I could use to connect my laptop (that I intend to buy along with a phone) to the www at early morning or late night, while keeping me connected to whatsapp during the day. (Hope I haven't complicated it.)
I intended to use the laptop for writing down my t'logs and watching movies.
But with the suggestion of a tablet, I'm in a fix.
1. Buy a cheap 3G phone + a simple netbook
or
2. Buy a good tablet with GSM sim compatibility?
I'm however more inclined to the former since tabs dont come with a full-fledged (chiclet?) keyboard (or do they?) + the good ones are on the other side of my budget.
My budget for both is 25k. Would still prefer something within 20.
Also, do you suggest buying a preused Galaxy Note or anything for that instance?Last edited by ABikerAtHeart; 08-28-2012, 12:50 AM.__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _______

Better buy a Laptop and a Smartphone (Any platform, Budget). Tablets in its present form can mainly be used for media consumption and not for any productivity.Originally posted by ABikerAtHeart View Post@Princebro, aargee Sir and li3ly rascala: Thank you for your valuable input.

Don't know really what to suggest, but for sure...avoid both of the above. Buy a quality device that serves the purpose.Originally posted by ABikerAtHeart View Post1. Buy a cheap 3G phone + a simple netbook

Apart from the one you shortlisted (which is actually a very good phone), Here is another option...
Micromax A56 - Full phone specifications
Its an Android Gingerbread with 800MHz processor with all essentials (HSPA, GPS, Wifi N, decent 256MB RAM). And as an added bonus, its a Dual Sim.
The cheapest Samsung droid costs 7k (Galaxy Y). This is definitely better than Galaxy Y in terms of specs.Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

I myself am using a cheap <2000/- micromax plhone X271 and its working very good.
But Micromax is something that I can associate only for cheap phones.
One of my friend has purchased Miromax Funbook, and has already sent it back to the dealer since, it is giving just 5-7mins of battery back-up.
I'm impressed by the specs of A90 by Micromax Micromax A90 - Full phone specifications, and A84 http://www.gsmarena.com/micromax_a84-4917.php
but am unsure whether to spend >10k on this brand.Last edited by Shibadip; 08-28-2012, 02:56 AM.sigpicRelationships change, evolve, and it goes deep.

Well I have never used one myself, but had it been bad, it would have showed up on the comments on GSMArena. In fact, it was only after A90 launch that I have started to take their products seriously.Originally posted by Shibadip View PostDo you think that Android Micromax are good??

Day 1 problems happen with even reputed brands like Samsung/Sony. My father bought a Galaxy Y as a second phone in the morning, returned it to the dealer in the evening. It wouldn't hold onto a wifi connection!!
His SGS2 battery life reduced to <4 hours immediately after an official ICS firmware upgrade I did in the morning yesterday!!
My brother's SE Xperia X10 started restarting on its own when we brought it from the shop and placed it in the home mandir for blessings. That was also returned immediately.
But this doesn't mean that all products that Sony/Samsung make would behave in a similar manner.Last edited by antz.bin; 08-28-2012, 03:12 AM.Advice is a form of nostalgia.

micromax is not bad at all. i have used both micromax and karbonn. its pretty much value for money. me and my frnd have this habit of trying various things, so one day we went to market and purchased a micromax and a karbon qwerty keypad mobile phone. both lasted about two years and were giving other costly qwerty phones a run for their money. they had almost everything except bbm. now we have upgraded to android.
you buy a laptop first unless you are in dire need of a mobile. then wait a few months and get an android phone worth atleast 8000

That's what I would suggest too. First buy a Laptop and using existing phone you can tether 2g Internet thru Blue tooth or USB cable. 3G is still spotty atleast where I live.Originally posted by princesirohi View Post

Since there's a discussion of Micromax & Karbonn going on, I'm sharing an experience of my colleague who bought a Micromax a year+ ago;
Unless the volume is muted, one can hear the noises of conversation at 10 foot distance; the lowest level of ringtone volume can be heard at neighboring flat; the handset gets heated soon & he had to use handset.
Not sure about the cost or model, but it WASN'T Android.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

that was one low end model that was particularly marketed for its loud music playback capability... and it was pretty good at doing that. a lot of drivers used that model in my company...
in my opinion micromax is VFM. but it all depends person to person... just like pulsars....
uh baby i m loving this tapatalk thing.....

EDIT-2: is it just me or there are others who feel that tapatalk does not consume as much battery as opera mini does.Last edited by princesirohi; 08-28-2012, 04:33 PM.

My condolences.

Agreed! And to share my bit, I have a Sony Ericsson W705 since the 12th of July, 2009 for Rs12,600/-. It had start-up issues since day 1. Meaning, it would take 3 tries on the 'power' key to start-up. Happens even today. But the phone has worked perfectly fine otherwise. Has had an exceptionally LOOOONG battery life, doesn't really heat up much. GPRS + Computer connectivity has been hassle free (read plu n play). Except its fairly soft speakers, everythingelse has been good.Originally posted by antz.bin View PostMy brother's SE Xperia X10 started restarting on its own when we brought it from the shop and placed it in the home mandir for blessings. Dudes... Just came across a concept called Geocaching while I was learning about GPS. Seems really interesting and this activity can be clubbed with G2G meets in respective cities. For more information just visit www. Geocaching. com.
In a nutshell, anyone with a GPS receiver or GPS enabled smartphone can participate in the fun. It's like treasure hunt where we try to locate the hidden cache using GPS coordinates. Free applications are available for both Android and IOS platform. EX: c:geo.
Anyone interested can take this forward as this is one more reason to unleash the nomad in you.
Fingers crossed.

micromax and spice are like the bajaj of mobile phone category.
they give you more than what you pay for.
currently the most vfm android products belong to them
micromax-a90
spice-stellar horizon.
the android experience is as good as a samsung or htc or even better in some cases.
added advantage =dual simand the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.
#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.
#overkill is underrated.
#how random roads may appear there is always a destination.sigpic
#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road
(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.
