I've a Samsung Monte; fortunately it came free, so can't say I was a fool to buy. Its THE WORST phone. Has camera, but no flash; screen gets locked automatically during call & isn't very convenient to use. Has limits on storing 10 names per profile; has a resistive touch. As if these weren't sufficient, our Samsung A/C released the gas from compressor for no reason. After these experienced a big NO to Samsung.

Thats no reason not to buy a Samsung phone . And Monte, at launch was the cheapest touchscreen phone. Try buying a Samsung Hard Disc once, those things like NEVER die. All my other HDDs (Seagate, Western Digital, Maxtor, Toshiba) eventually died after 4-5 years of usage (when they became too outdated to be of any use). By comparison, I still have my 12 year old 40GB Samsung Hard Disc,(which is extremely slow by today's standards) and it still works. With such a good experience, obviously that one is not the only Samsung HDD we have in the family.

Anyways, if you are Anti-Samsung, we also have Sony, Motorola and LG making some good phones.

well then i had a 5800 xpress music before x6 was resistive touch.used to hang if wallpaper was set on auto change mode.it got so bad that if it hanged when ph was ringing it used to vibrate nonstop.had to get off the byk take off he batt and restart the damn thing just to stop the ViBrAtor while riding.
thank god nokia dosnt make A/C.
not to mention it was damn slow.my sony walkman ph was faster than 5800.by the way its costed 13.5k for resistv screen at that tym.hope u get my point.i never said samsung.i recomended against nokia thats all.
i recomended android phones instead of windows.
any ways bottom line is its your money. i for one would never put my money on nokia phones.
just for fun google specs of N8 and compare it with a atrix2 or even a defy XT.

Even I had a Monte before.. And that was my first touchscreen phone. The phone was good, with descent camera. Soon got tired & switched on to Android (Samsung Galaxy Ace), and my life changed.. Been around a year now, never got tired of the excitement & the tech part involved in Android. Now I have a rooted phone & keep switching to different Custom ROMs & Kernels.. Its such a fun..

I've no say; I really got annoyed when our 3 yr Samsung A/C's gas vanished completely compared to our 5 yr old pristine Onida. Samsung is big NO!!!

Something is seriously wrong with Monte; I've an N72 (bought sometimes during early 2007) & I still like to use it better than Monte. May be Monte is not my type & combined with the A/C, I hate the entire Samsung family.

I'm seriously getting too much confused as what too choose I don't want expensive phones, at the same time, I want a Nokia that meets just my requirements. This is getting me in total confusion, hope I don't make an impulsive buy

RG Sir, i would say go for the N8.It's an awesome phone and my friend has been using it for last one and a half years (Nov 2010)and still no issues

Samsung had aluminium cooling coils to reduce cost and thats were the problem started with cooling gas leaking

@RG Try the Nokia 603. Fits your needs like a glove.

have used S2 for some time and so S2 is ruled out...

best bang of buck i could figure out for 30k + - 1k is galaxy note.
strict budget so HTC one 'x' and galaxy s3 are a no no..

BTW, have been hearing a lot on Android (looks like too much applications are available on Android models) & heard Nokia is dropping their support (not sure Android or Symbian). I'd like to use lot of applications related to GPS, Map etc. Suggestion on choosing android/windows/symbian is appreciated.

For that budget and those 3 simple needs you menntioned, a lot of phones are there, but again, since you're using an S2, expectations will be high.

Check the Xperia P from Sony Mobiles. Xperia P has very good sound and camera quality. Don.t know about GPS. You'll have to update its Android after purchasing I think as it is still Gingerbread 2.3X.

If you're willing to forget Android for an excellent mind blowing mobile camera, good GPS and 3G, then 808 Pureview falls around Rs. 30k, as of now. It has a 41 megapixels camera.

get the Xperia S. You'll falll in love with the display.

Nokia 500. Here's what I use it for.

1. Spamming my friends inboxes by sending a 100 texts a time(Hell yeah they have an app for that too.)

2. Navigation (I crossed 3 states using Nokia Maps+Google Maps combo and reached Thirupati via Kuppam Road, in the middle of the night with my phone's assistance, the driver was a new guy and he was clueless and the map my dad carried did'nt have any of the new roads at all. My driver was also so clueless to a point that I had to go and get the food parcels, I'd tag the current location of the taxi, wander around for a hotel buy food, and route myself back to the location of the taxi.)

3. Making free calls, via Skype, my dad's abroad. Works without 3G, just using the normal packet data, YEAH YOU HEARD ME RIGHT!

4. Compass, cause when we travel abit north, the people there refer to places by saying 'Go North' 'Go South' etc.

5. SpeedoMeter/Trip Log, heck beats my bikes speedo when it comes to accurancy.

6. Download youtube videos, like watching soaps that I've missed.

7. Viewing/Editing Documents and presentations, comes in handy when the teacher asks for a quick improvision.

8. Ahhh!! You get the picture. Everything I normally do on a computer can be done on the phone. Plus the stability of Symbian OS at an unbeatable price of 9.6k.

People who've started seeing smartphones only from the recent past will argue about Android being better, just ignore them cause they go by the fancy ad's they see on TV, and if they claim they've used a Symbian and didnt find it worth it, then they're stupider cause they've only explored the phones potential upto Ovi Store. And last but not least, Nokia's kick ass.

pure view is definitely a good phone and me being nokia fan however not many reviews are out for the same. also nokia these days looks overpriced compared to the hardware they provide. will still check it out.


xperia S's screen is definitely worth a drool with that dpi surpassing retina display of apple. will check it as suggested.
