  • I need a GPS device(phone or dedicated one). I am looking for Satellite Navigation and pre loaded maps unlike A-GPS in most of the current phones that require GPRS/3G. As this would be my backup phone/GPS I don't want to spend much(<12K). Any suggestions.

Earlier I had Videocon Ducati V6200 as my backup phone and it served the purpose well. However, I lost it recently and I ordered it again (online from Online Shopping in India, Shop Online and Compare Price - Compare and Shop Online in India for Mobiles, Laptops, Cameras, Automobiles). I got a faulty product and I had to return it. Since, this phone is no more into production, I don't want to order it online and get a faulty one.

          • New phone and old phone OS upgrade

@All: Bought a white Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro for my sis with a 16GB memory card. Costed me around 13.3+700=14K.
Now the best price says 12.3K for phone only, but market fluctuation is inevitable!
Anyway, I was trying to force her to go for Defy Plus with a bigger screen, but she was more interested in the physical keypad for her FB/Whatsapp messaging!
As long as she's happy, so am I!
The 1GHz processor seems to be working snappily enough&the cam is also really good. Music needless to say, is booming with XLoud!

Update on my Optimus Black which I bought 9mths. back is I got it upgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.4 and suddenly the battery started draining like crazy on Standby. Found out from the forums that it is a bug in the OS, so hit a factory data reset and all is well. Processor and battery life response have improved.
Going good for now. Waiting for ICS!
            Quench my thirst with gasoline!

                • Mostly will be used for sms-es and internet usage.
                • Price range upto 10k

What are the options available with the prices?

I was using an LG cookie plus untill now... will be using it only for a cpuple of days more because i ordered an LG optimus NET...
I wanted to buy a nokia or a samsung or a motorola but my friends forced me to rethink my decision and go for the optimus NET
I generally dont like the brand LG much, doesn't sound very attractive but their products are good, The LG cookie plus looks like cheap plastic but its god damn durable, it throw it almost everyday and water entered it once, but it always took the damage well.
One more thing i observed is, the customer care is very good, once my screen got repaired and they handled the issue very well.(Never experienced other customer care for mobiles).

                  Coming to your requirements.
LG optimus Net and Motorola fire fit the bill.
Go for one of them, fire has a better camera with flash but has got some bad reviews... its just a little costly when compared to Optimus NET.

P.S. if you want something really rugged, stretch a little and go for the previous version of defy, you will get it for 10.xk in some stores

Indeed, in these 3 years it has fallen from heights, took some real bashing , all that broke was the cover of the headphone part and some discoloration of the colors (I got the chocolate color)

Yeah thats so true, I got the memory card replaced twice under warranty, the helpful thing is that it gives us the name, number, address of the service shops

I am using Samsung Wave 533. It is a good phone and pretty decent camera resolution. Better you can try for Galaxy Y, fits your bill and you get to use android apps.

I think the explorer is very much over priced... it must be priced around galaxy Y.
Galaxy Y and wave Y are pretty much the same phone, Only difference is the software.
People say, android applications will give you good browsing experience etc,... so go for gaalaxy y if its between two of them.
                        Cons of these 2 phones:
Screen resolution is a bit low.
                        Camera is worthless.
I dont like the way galaxy Y looks, the body is huge, screen is small and somehow looks disproportionate.

If you are planning to buy galaxy Y, try to get it for 7k~... many shops over price it.
One thing is for sure, its a PURE VFM product.

Which one exactly ? Defy or Defy plus ?

As compared to Samsumg Galaxy Y, this one (Defy) has bigger screen with Girilla glass, looks good, much better camera with auto focus and LED flash + VGA camera, Multitouch and many more....
Also don't you think that Galaxy Y (in fact any Samsung mobile for that matter) looks toooo common...!?
You just need to extend a li'l bit...

If i was in your place,i would go for the Samsung galaxy Y

                              Why?
                              - faster processor than the explorer. (Galaxy Y: 832 Mhz,HTC: 600 Mhz)
                              - Galaxy Y is 3k cheaper
                              - The sense ui of HTC eats up a significant portion of your RAM,so i think it can lagg with app installs.

The explorer's build quality is top notch, but performance wise the galaxy Y is a little ahead.
I've used the galaxy Y for a month and faced no lagg whatsoever.

Im not sure whether both these phones would get an ICS update or not, will have to check.
