      ATGATT it is!!!

Well to start with, I was not allowed to ride a bike till I started working. Parents were all compelling to stay away from a bike. But deep within the passion of riding with the wind on my face was growing slowly and slowly.
Then when I was able to save enough, I bought myself a second-hand P150. After that I saved enough to buy a DSG Jacket, gloves, knee pads, Cross Helmet. And what do I do with these? Keep them inside my almirah all clean and shining. Only to wear them on rides. Why? Because I just did not bother wearing them everyday except for rides. I used to wear them everyday for a week or so when I bought it, but somehow just did not care enough after that. Feel so ashamed and think I have let my parents down. All that love and care in bringing me up, just endangered simply because I JUST DID NOT BOTHER... I did not have any falls, thanks to God's grace. But reading this article, I felt I have been such a fool. Even though forums have advised time and again to wear gear and ride, I just used to wear a Helmet at max. But where is that going to save me from the tarmac on my skin. Recently even that was given up, especially when I had my gf as pillion.
This is an oath I am taking to wear the gear, even if it means going just 1km. If its closer, I will walk.
Thanks to xbhp and this thread in particular.

Had a small fall this morning while riding to Nandi Hills (Bangalore folks will be familiar with the place).
I was coming uphill from the direction shown here, & was taking a right U-turn to return downhill at 0-5 Kmph, when I lost balance & fell with the bike to my right side (at the spot circled in the pic).

Thanks to my riding gear, I barely felt the fall.
The fall wasn't at high speeds, but was good enough to have handed me a sprained ankle / wrist, if not for the head-to-toe riding gear (except knee guards).

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

I'm glad you shared that link and gave some valuable inputs, Parth. The others' experiences were also thought provoking. It's time to buy riding gear for myself!

But there is still a chance I meet with an accident... But bhai aren't there slight risks in every walk of life...? You carry risks even being a pedestrian... Nai...?
Living in itself has some risks associated with itself, you can die of food poisoning while out having brunch on a lazy sunday afternoon with your better half, you can die of a shock while switching on the light when you enter a room. We can't make the risks go away, all we can do is be aware of them and make sure we are ready for them when they show their ugly faces.

People spend good money in being safe from the other risks present in life, like ordering packaged mineral water at restaurants/ buying good quality switches instead of cheap but unsafe ones, then why cheap out on buying the only thing that can save your ass while you're riding?

Yes there is... As I said... Lets try and maximise it... I stilll don't promise 100% usage... I don't know if it is possible for anyone... But yes we should try our best to maximise the usage of gears... Not be lazy about it...
I'm in the very early stages of applying ATGATT in my riding so don't know if it can or can not be 100% applicable, but one has to give points for trying

yes we should... maybe someday we should meet up and toast to it...
              Sure, why not

ok i want to share an experience and ask a question...

              first the experience part....
As some of you may remember i had an accident way back in 2007. i was going to office on a wet road in monsoon season, had not slept well last night, getting late for office.....speeds above 90kmph ....BANG....a jeep from other direction on wrong side.......a head on collison......got 13 fractures all over....some said i won't survive...was in ICU for a month and on bed for 6 months although with god's grace i m back. u can see the attached pics of my bike and jeep's bumper. i survived coz i was wearing a helmet and gloves saved my palms....rest everything was fractured....if only i was wearing full protection......
from then on i never speed off unnecessarily.......
my earlier profile was washed away in those 6 months......it took me a total of 8 months to ride again.

              now the question...
i had big fractures in thigh bone and knee cap and the bone from knee to ankle.......from last few months i am looking for good protection of thigh bone and from ankle to knee protection. the problem with knee and shin guards is that they don't cover fully from knee to ankle but end somewhere in between. do you guys know any knee/shin gaurd that covers completely from knee to ankle. i have made almost full use of internet but unable to find one.
Sorry to know about your accident bro, I had seen those pics a while back too, but didn't know the story behind the accident. Your are indeed very lucky that you came out of it with just fractures.

As for you query about what kinda gear, I'll say either get something custom made as I don't think anything is available for full leg protection, or try bigger knee guards like scoyco k11.

LOL . I won't try any more stoppies due to a similar incident

You are not the only one who had been in a practice of doing this, I've been doing this for about an year or so, thank god that both of us didn't have any major mishaps during this period.

It is good to know that you've realised your mistake and will implement ATGATT in your riding from now on

Yes indeed it is time to invest in gear, also do not forget to use them everytime you ride and not just on sunday rides only
A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

Thanks! It was a fall, not a crash.

I came out unscathed. No scratches to the new fairing either.
The front-right indicator is scratched at the bottom, but only I know that.
The front-brake lever also has a mild scratch, but I will touch it up.

The right clip on will be bent towards the inside a little, to check this, turn the bars to the extreme left and measure the distance between the clip on and the tank, then do the same for the right side, the right will be a little lesser as the clip on is bent

I need to get both my clip ons changed, both are bent inwards due to falls on both sides

The clip-on did not even touch the ground. The RVM & the front indicator took the weight of the bike.

According to an article published on Times of India, the road transport and highways ministry is proposing higher fine for people who ride without helmets on two wheelers. The ministry has proposed the fine to double from the current Rs 500 to Rs 1000. The same amount of fine has been proposed for using mobile phones while riding or non-adherence to wearing of seat belts on 4 wheelers.

Would be great if it's ever implimented! Cops aren't everywhere and half the time they don't care, I got hit in my car from behind yesterday by a scooter, in front of a cop, he wouldn't come over to sort things, just ignored the incident, so I just abused him and the scooter driver who was claiming it's my fault for using the brakes dumb ass shouldn't be on the road, shame I didn't get a chance to slap the fellow.
Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

                            crash and bang!

want to quote an accident my brother had about 2-3 months back and that too not any bike but on the R1...no high speed but yeah about 60-70 kmph...he had all gear on except for that particular day he decided to wear my converse instead of his adidas...my wife told him a hundred times to change it and wear his shoes but he was like its ok didi i am fine with it...now during the ride the group stopped for some lime juice and then one by one took off from the place...my brother was in front...a vespa guy hearing all the noise behind him decides to look back and ride and in doing this he was moving more and more closer to the right...my bro was about to overtake him on the right when he almost closed the gap...he swered left, hit the fender of a CBR and then bang and crash...he gets thrown off and slides on his jacket and helmet...the bike slides further about 20 mts...sparks flying from the clutch lever as its getting grounded...but unfortunately only because the bugger was wearing the converse the shoes get loose from his feet...so there he was lying on the dirt...as everybody is rushing towards him...he just gets up...dusts his jacket and jeans..slaps his gloves together and takes a look at his slightly bruised foot fingers!!...then goes to the shoes and wears them...everybloody layman over there was shell shocked as how can a guy just get up and walk away from such a crash!!...yup he was very truly saved by riding gears and god....or else he would have been in the hospital with an acre of skin missing and maybe head injury and god knows what else...he just took a ride in the accompanying car just a little shocked(who wouldnt be) but then later he rode again and came home...well not about the bike part it took very little damage repair..just 3000rs and my frnd who had aftermarket clutch levers gave me his stock ones..thanks to the frame slider...
smoking weed is for kids.....i smoke asphalt!
