Re: Race Concepts - Pulsar 220/200 goodies
How about getting a p200ns and riding a stock bike which is much reliable and powerful than a Joel kitted P220??? Sounds better, economical and trouble free, doesn't it??Originally posted by Ajith Vasisht View Post@all Guys i know its been a looong time. I had free flow for my RTR and thats why I would also suggest you to invest in 200ns and keeping it stock for long lasting rideOriginally posted by Ajith Vasisht View Post^no offence but i want to hear it from someone who has a joel'ed pulsar 220 :P But i guess yours is the more practical aproach.

Even the best tuned motorcycle in a 150cc open category was notoriously unreliable making many problems at the start of the race and while on the run.
The mod was done to a R15 and was taken care continuously by arguably best mechs still couldn't match factory reliability.
Using it regularly without continuous support might not work .
P.S the modded R15 was claimed to be 2x time faster than factory version.

Re: Race Concepts - Pulsar 220/200 goodies
I never tried Joels kit after coming to know his faulty/Unreliable mods. There is a thread on his flaws and his lack of response to his customers.. i dont think you would want to fall in that category. Spending 20000-30000 isnt just worth it. Better spend that extra cash and get a bigger bike is my suggestion.Originally posted by Ajith Vasisht View Post^no offence but i want to hear it from someone who has a joel'ed pulsar 220 :P But i guess yours is the more practical aproach.

Ok. Here are some FACTS:Originally posted by Ajith Vasisht View Post^no offence but i want to hear it from someone who has a joel'ed pulsar 220 :P But i guess yours is the more practical aproach.
1. Go down this road only if you have deep pockets and have an appetite for taking risks.
2. Failures is a part of the game and if you can't stand failures you are better off with advice being given to you by people out here.
3. Don't expect stock reliability or longevity from any setup that is not stock. No matter what you are promised by anyone out there, there are no free meal tickets. Performance comes at cost.

I had the joel ffe for about one year or more. I went into it knowing all the risk involved, so keep in mind what Abhimanyu has posted and then decide.Originally posted by Ajith Vasisht View Post@all Guys i know its been a looong time. You will need deep pockets to keep up a performance oriented modified bike.

Hi,
You don't have to have deep pockets to go in MODS unless u crave for more and more power always. U will always have a choice to make whenever u spend again and again. If you are craving for more power, then its a never ending process. Yes u will spend more eventually. U just need to know when to stop spending.
MODS needs to be done if u want it. If you have decided that then go ahead.
Bottom line its not STOCK. we should not expect it to be like stock. It will demand little extra money than maintaining regular stock like Synthetic oil, frequency of oil change, FFE maintenance and of course dependability of the Tuner. etc
Its how far deep u can MOD. I would suggest get a second hand P220 and think of going for MODs. If you are still concerned about your daily trips keep this as a second ride along with another reliable 2nd hand machine. I do have an active (Wife's) for my short rides for market and other crowded places. I use my R15 only for some long runs inside city and for week ends.
Now coming to Joel MODS review
I have a Joeled R15 for close to 3 years. I have done almost most of the MODS. From 180cc big bore, Head and valves, close ratio gear box, ECU, petal discs, throttle body, FFE, air filter, chain, front and rear sprockets. etc. I am not munching miles by touring but I have clocked enough miles which makes me happy.I almost always run with mix of 97 octane fuel and normal fuel, almost 60:40 ratio and without DB killer. I use fully synthetic oil and change it any time after 2K kms.
With the close ratio box, I am experiencing pure bliss in 9 - 12k RPM...
. and I can breach 150.. its slow after 145, but with the close ratio box the way it reached 0-130 is awesome.
Will I do some additional MODS.. Depends on power to cost ratio . I think I have reached the enough of R15, may be my next option should be a engine swap
I do understand that in this forum few of issues were reported about Joels kit and I feel sorry for those hard spend cash, One issue I have faced few times is getting the tuning of my ECU correctly when I change cities. and reverse cranking. This made me change the starter clutch once.Last edited by Sivasundaran; 12-18-2014, 03:49 PM.----------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Race Concepts - Pulsar 220/200 goodies
As above I have been running their 180 kit on my r15 for 3 years as well, I have had 2 engine failures, gone through one starter clutch and around 5 starter motors. I have re-engineered there current block, bought a brand new big valve head and new camshaft from abroad, luckily I managed to borrow a wide band o2 sensor and tuned my ride to be slightly rich, rather than the pig rich maps that were provided, ok for me as I use the car 95% of the time and the bike is more of a hobby. I have probably spent close to 2 lakhs on the bike, which includes purchasing, repainting, engine and other mods, still not finished as yet, probably another 30k in parts. The bike has spent at least 8-10 months off the road with mechanical issues and waiting for spares.
Unless you are prepared for any of this I suggest you get a bigger bike, there's much more choice now compared to 3 years ago, it'll save you money in the long term.

Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

Re: Race Concepts - Pulsar 220/200 goodies
Thanks for the replies! From what you guys are saying any mod on a bike will always be a hit or a miss. However good the tuner is. But if it works out the bike can perform without trouble for 30k+kms Ignoring the slight changes that have to be made to the AFR and stuff now and then. I can live with that. The extra cost after getting the mods done like synthetic oil etc. are fine by me. I don't want to spend more than 20k on the initial mods, just the basics like the big bore, ffe and headwork. And since i stay in Bangalore i can get it done at Joel's workshop itself and its fairly easy for me to go to him sort out any problems if and when they occur (I don't mind spending the extra time).
So yea i'm willing to take the chance and spend the little extra money (i wont go bonkers with the mods). But my real question is about whether the pulsar 220 is still an adept bike. The pulsar 200ns has a perimeter frame and better suspension, the duke 200 has a trellis frame with wp suspension. But the pulsar has quite old chasis technology and the suspension is quite dated. I don't want the bike to be track ready or anything nor do i go on a lot of twisties, i mainly need it to commute thats all. But i wanted to know if these aspects (chasis and suspension) are that much of a drawback on the p220 compared to newer bikes like the duke 200 or 200ns. Any other bike is out of my budget anyway.
The reason i like the p220 so much is because of the comfort compared to the duke 200 or 200ns (read softer suspeension). And with some slight changes like ffe, big bore and headwork it can even be as fast (or faster) than the others. I know the risks that come with modding and i am ready to take the risk. I'm just doubtful about how the bike is generally old with old technology(brakes suspension chasis etc..).

Why not a new duke200 without mods? Will be much better as far as performance goes.Originally posted by Ajith Vasisht View Post@all Guys i know its been a looong time. But what do guys you think about buying a new pulsar 220 now (its almost 2015

I really like the way you've changed everything about your bike. Why are you changing FS oil after only 2K kms?Originally posted by Sivasundaran View PostI have a Joeled R15 for close to 3 years. Nice that you're going about the modding route in an informed manner and researching before you jump in. Personally, I think you should seize the opportunity and experience the glory of a big bore kit at full blast.Originally posted by Ajith Vasisht View PostI can live with that. Wow you have truly gone all the way with the mods! Glad to hear that its still going well. And don't want to buy a used bikeOriginally posted by Sivasundaran View PostHi,

Thanks for the inputs. . But there's no point in asking people's opinion and not considering it right. I feel like i'll be doing injustice to all the people who advised me to stay away from the mods if i do end up getting a p220 with a BB kit.
