Man you have some patience. I tried Joel's big bore twice - seized on me both times; lost my crank too in the process and spent about 55k total on the mods - eventually had to return to stock cause honestly i was sick of the seizing blocks and the ludicrous explanations and finger pointing. Since then I've decided to never mod again. Wasn't worth the 15cc boost to be honest. Could have sold my bike, added 50k and brought a brand new v2.0 instead. Ridiculous experience. I'm surprised Joel is still selling that stuff - I would have thought after soooo many stories of the block seizing the issue would have been rectified by now.

Makes me think MAY be that's the reason, people in the WEST don't just rebore the cylinder, but play with ECM, full system exhaust & timings

Yea, I understood that part; what I mean to say is, I'm observing a consistent pattern that the first block getting seizure followed by a fix.

BTW, try getting your vehicle dyno'd; what I understand is the dyno's should be available at most KTM (PBK then) outlets; it requires some rapport to be built with them though. You'll get to know the exact figure after carrying out the performance mod. That way your claims are more concrete, reliable & also will know how much you paid for the bhp increase.

Try Try Try till you succeed... and you did it royally

            Hearty congrats bro..
Actually i read the heading and i thought OH shit.. another person duped by the 165 cc block. but glad that you took up the challenge...

looking forward to meet you in person.. i could gain a lot of know how from you...
I had also been promised the sky. and I spent amounts in which i could have got a second hand bike. and still i did not get even close to what i wanted. ultimately, I took the job in my hands. no consultation at all. you see, if there is a problem and if i cant rectify it, I believe i don't deserve to think of bettering it. I am still in the process of bringing the bike at par to stock but someday i am sure i will make it happen.

I recently had thought of starting a thread named "Modifications - the untold story". but now i believe that this thread is exactly what i wanted people to know. could you please start that thread?

Every time i read of reviews of modified bikes, i feel sorry for them for not knowing what they are going into.

Seeing all these "Performance Bug Bitten Bitter Experiences" seems like the thread has one thing in common from all who wanted Big Blocks/ Big Performance that is well understood that no one were satisfied for the penny spend in extracting BHP. Strange...Isnt it?

you see, half knowledge is far more dangerous than the complete one...
Truthfully speaking, I went into mods cos i wanted to get rid of a problem that was never related to the engine.
it all started with non availability of air filter. i got fedup and installed K&N. soon i upjetted, found that the upjet did not do anything usefull + the carb got clogged frequently. so i installed a fuel line filter. soon, the bug bit me with a friend raving about his performance bike (zma block on the cbz). i lost track of senses and soon i was on the track of mods...
countless rs later i did a reality check and found that a stock bike was actually more reliable than mine, could be serviced by any TDH, did not have any niggles, did not need special fuel additives, could easily run on mineral oil, and to top it off, was just as quick as mine.

hence i started to learn where i went wrong and in the process, i learnt the fine details of the engine. you see smooth seas never make skillfull sailors.
currently, i want to eliminate all the niggles that ihave with the current setup. then the mods follow one by one...

Yeah I understand the path, since even recently the non availability of ZMA Air filter frustrated me,and after careful checking, chose Zen MPFi air filter and fitted it with some alterations...even after 5 K Kms it is still doing a good job.....I think I was one of the first to tell you about the use of K&N and it's results...
The problem is the Hard sell that is made and the hope we have in our hearts that it just might be possible....My experience had already taught me ,so if I want power,I will upgrade to higher cc engine rather than do mods with lower cc engine and loose reliability...
You are right about the skilled sailor....

Fantastic write up! And kudos to you.

Alas I have already gone down the road of Big Bore 180cc. Everything has not been smooth sailing and as of now I am still facing severe engine knock with load, not to mention the vibrations that have come in, I sure miss my butter smooth stock Honda as it was before

But in any case there definitely has been a modest performance gain, however much I try and see it objectively, I feel that the bike has improved.

But the peace of mind is totally lost. That confidence of just filling up the tank and going out for a long tour has gone after reading horror stories of engine seizures. Never know when the rear wheel will lock because the piston melted!!! Because of this fear I have not even ripped the bike once in the 700km that its run with the new block. Ironic isn't it that I got the Big-Bore so I could cruise at leisure??!!
