That was SPIT FIRE coming out of the exhaust, Is'nt it considered as bad to health of engine and results in fried valves? (Please correct if I am wrong)

Me too a prowd owner of RRTR 180 with Joel's FFE. I had the same exact problem with the fitting but got this done from a local mechanic who sought this out for me in 30 mins after adjusting the brake pedal and attaching a bracket to the mounting point of the exhaust and the footpeg.Originally posted by karkai6 View PostAnother customer of Joel here!!! I got his exhaust for the RTR 180...
When I initially contacted Joel about it, I was informed it would give a 10% bump... But then, I had my own reservations about an exhaust swap giving me such a gain... PM'd a few members who I knew had gone for it, and everyone seemed really happy with the product.. Did my own miniscule research on what a Free-flow means, what are its pros, cons, blah, blah etc...Then, Gave myself the green signal..
I sometimes turn Poser(as all of us do!) and I really wanted the Backfire Flame which shoots through the exhaust when dropping from high rpms.. I thought and still think it looks really really cool... It is massive show-off material I tell you ...
Personally, I had no problems with the sound.. Now that I own it, I like the bassy feel.. Am very sure the cops might not... But then, I m ready to live with that...(As I said... Poser!!!)
Anyway, I decided to go for it... It did take quite some time to arrive... When it did, I ran home from office to get the package and it is extremely light weight when compared to the stock exhaust.. (Trust me... I carried both for a couple of kilometres... I ll come to that later...) I even thought it looked cool... But then, that's my opinion... You can form yours..
Now comes a more troubling part... I took it to the A.S.S for the fitting... They too were quite enthu abt the exhaust... They were like "mileage drop hoga", "ye hoga", "kyon accha gaadi ka waat laga raha hai"... I did my showing off like "Its been built specifically for the RTR180 U no??" "This is MotoGP material U no??" and all that..
They tried to fit it and to my wild surprise, the flange near the engine head would not go in its slot... The mounting point of the exhaust and the footpeg bolt-hole were about 5 cms apart... The diameter between the Bolt holes in the Flange near the head were off by a couple of mms..
This kicked me up a fair bit and I immedietly called Joel... He seemed very surprised about it, probably the first case of non-fitting he s heard so far... He gave me suggestions on how to make it fit... a lil bit of lathe job... The ppl at the A.S.S seemed amused about at my misery and were sort of re-affirming their opinions about after-market products... Not what I needed at that time for sure!!
Me and my friend carried both the stock and the FFE for a kilometre to a lathe shop, instructed him on what to do and waited... Then we had to put in a plate between the Footpeg mount and the exhaust mount to hold the thing.. (as the holes were off by 5 cm).. Then, finally fitting it, we found that the exhaust was getting comfortable with the Swingarm, main stand and the rear brake hose.. Pushed and pulled on the exhaust here and there to get it away from conflicting touches and bolted it in place.. As of noe, it is bolted tight but its actually stressed, as it has been pulled down a bit.. (I really hope am able to get the point across!!)
The first fire-up was unbelievable... So freaking loud inside the garage, it got EVERYONE's attention...
Finally, after quite some work, it was ready... I asked the mech there to judge if any tune-up seemed necessary... He took it for a ride.. When he was back, he had this look on his face which immedietly told me my money was extremely well-spent.. He couldnt help spreading the word to everyone in the shop and now I was lined with prospective test riders... I am a poser, so I gladly entertained the requests...
Finally, waving everyone goodbye, I sent my friend home in an auto wid the old exhaust.. (No way he could have carried it on a bike!!)
Now, the anticipation!! Took the highway route home.. And man oh man, this is the part where I run out of words... It literally transformed the bike into a free-revving monster... I touched a 131 out of nowhere... It scared the shit out of me... (I aint a chicken... This was in the City!!) I was, and still am at a loss of words... A mere exhaust... Thats it U no??
To Joel:
Joel... Your product rocks... No two ways about it... True performance talking here... This aint any psychological gain we are talking about here... But, But...... Please talk to your fabricator... Something was messed up... The mountings were off not only at one single point... As I say, the exhaust kissed quite a few places... I m sure it must be one-off.... But, I was the unlucky one here... But man... You surely have a loyal and fully satisfied customer here... Am just in the process of arranging some cash for the big-bore and when I do get it done, I ll give you a call... (I am quite a fan now!!)
Exact same performance levels of the exhaust, Loving every bit of it. Getting too much attention though
. Just love to rev the engine. Infact ive been revving so hard in these last 3 days, that my tacho needle came off today. Posting few pics

Joel, once you are ready with the performance mods for FZ, you will have one order for this from my end for sure !! My R15 plan is still on... just busy saving up enough dough for the new bike and your mods as well..Originally posted by Joel View PostThe exhaust can be shipped to your address. If there is engine tuning, it will need to come down to bangalore. I'm making plans to build an all-out street FZ with custom profile cam, bigbore, ignition, carb upgrade, redesigned cylinder head etc to showcase the potential of the FZ engine. The plan and stuffs are ready, I only need a bike now
. Its got good potential and can be tuned to deliver very good gains and yet be super reliable.
You have literally opened the doors for a lot of people who earlier never had a chance of pushing their rides for extreme performance and that too with reliability which in your case many would swear by.
Keep up the good work and don't get disheartened... people here in india are just getting exposed to reliable performance upgrades hence, the change in mentality will take a bit of time.
I would definitely recommend putting up youtube videos of your work and let that fly around, you should get better purchase response for sure.

^The stock level of reliability with so much more power is something that Indians are yet to experience. So it will take some time for most people to settle logics in their head.sigpic

I have been praising all along regarding the Modifications that Joel has performed on my P220 Dtsi.
I have mentioned many times in several posts regarding his work, and cant stop praising ,words don't do justice to Joel's work. And I am very bad when it comes to writing.
Everytime I take back my bike from Joel, I think I will be back after 5-6 months for next upgrades. But then, once I log in to Xbhp, and read several threads/posts regarding his mods, I just cant resist myself from contacting him for the next level of upgrades. Also, in the process I get closer to getting divorced from my wife, as she feels I love my Bike more than her.
How I wish the upgrades (Cams, Big Bore etc) were available off the shelf, so that I didn't have to wait.Last edited by chinmayakar; 03-11-2011, 02:40 AM.

Got Joel'ed
My bike is almost 27000kms old and I had no modifications for it. I had in mind that once warranty is over I will go for modifications.
Last weekend saw a thread on xbhp about a Joel's FFE on Pulsar 220 and then read 2 or 3 more threads about it and all those guys were praising it a lot. I had already came to know about Joel long back on xbhp and got it from there that he is simply a genius.
Within a day I was completely sold to idea of getting FFE on my RTR180. On last Monday, I went to his place and saw many of his race bikes. The FFE was already ready but required some modifications for fitting.
The moment the bike was started for the first time, I got a smile on my face and could not control myself. Took a pretty small ride and was damn impressed. After leaving his place, by mistake I went into the wrong side on the service road and was caught by traffic police. But they had already noticed me coming because of the strange ( for them ) sound the bike was making. And instead of telling me much earlier that I'm entering wrong side they invited me ( mainly bcoz of the sound ) as I was an atm machine for them who will fetch out 100 or 200 for them.
I didnt got a chance to test the bike completely as I usually dont drive on weekdays and these days I'm not riding bike for the city rides also( I'm having another 2 wheeler for that ( cycle )).
I took the bike to Nandi hills yesterday. The increase in the torque could be felt. Now I dont have to do much of down shifting. I could take all the hair pin bends easily on 3rd gear whereas my other friend who was on stock RTR 180 had to down shift to 2nd gear. Even in city rides it has become very simple to ride. I will test the bike completely once I go on a long ride.
The two things that I enjoyed a lot during the ride to hills was:
1. All the attention that I was getting.
2. We were recording videos on the big right hand corners on the hills. One person was riding and other was recording. The loud sound of the bike could be heard even before it was seen.
I will go for more modifications may be a upgrade to engine but that will come later.
Thanks Joel for your FFE and all the best for future.

Got the exhaust recently from Joel for the R15 and it has been pretty fun with it ! The sound at higher rpm is music to my ears but unfortunately it has been attracting unnecessary attention like say from the cops
And also it is a unnecessary unpleasant noise for the female pillions who at times travel with me !
Now that got me thinking about getting a removable db-killer for the exhaust. I know that the db-killer defeats the purpose of the FFE but for certain times a quieter exhaust is what i prefer .
I measured the inner diameter of the end can and it is 41mm.
Searching around the net and ebay i found this
EXHAUST SILENCER BAFFLE 41mm CHROME 4 STROKE DB KILLER - eBay (item 390296409323 end time Apr-09-11 14:10:07 PDT)
So what do you guys think ? Would it work?

There is nothing for a P150. The only worthy upgradable bikes are the P220, R15, RTR and Zma and I have the performance upgrade line-up. And to an extent the FZ.
The R15 is my flagship development, followed by the RTR and both are being raced by us. Next is the Karizma and P220 which are excellent street engines. The older pulsars are not gonna make it even with a head/bore swap of the P220.sigpic
