  • What's wrong wth HH,
I opened a magneto of a passion plus 2005 and it has only one coil for lighting and one for ignition.
    Its rectangular bar shaped.
I thought it was used on very old models but on 2005 .

I thought you were doing AC to DC on splendor .

      • I am doing the Ac/dc to full dc mod on our splendor+2004(it has 3 poles) but
happened to check our passion's coil out of curiosity.

Can anyone tell me why a fellow member's(Above_All') stator has three poles which is from a 2002 passion whereas our passion+ 2005 has only one pole ?
I thought only older HH bikes came with single pole and newer bikes came with 3-poles for lighting/charging.

That's strange , i excepted passion+ will have more than 3 poles of coil for lightning , because when Passion is selling it comes with a normal bulb & later on HH modded it to Passion+ they provided a halogen bulb in it .

Shoeb did anyone changed it while doing some engine work at private garage ?

I also think someone might have changed it as the bike is usually used in my dad's factory far away from city.

            • Today I got the magneto opened as i dint have necessary tools ie puller and holder.
While removing ,the mech asked me why I am removing it so told him the idea.

              Pls see the picture.

              Now comes the fun part.
Mech is saying that if i remove it and desolder the coil end bike wont start,
How can a lightening coils end be responsible for ignition ?
              SO I just ignored it.

AFAIK it is grounded as it is the coil end.
the ground location is different from Above_all's so taking some precaution.

Is that ground ? (Mechanic confused me alot ,infact I think i lost my electrical knowledge)Man,These mechs are only fit only to confuse everyone.

Pls confirm if it has to be floated
              check the attachment.

1 end of the lighting coil + 1 end of the ignition coil is grounded

float the lighting coil & solder it to the ground wire instead. Leave the ignition coil grounded.

if you follow the above, then you're done. bike will start no matter what!!!

                • Shoeb detach the wire connecting the last end f lightning coil to ground & solder another wire to that last terminal to use for full wave & don't forget to cover the detached wire with tape .

& is you bought new coil for passion+ or it is of splendor ?

                  • @ Abhijeet Are you sure the ignition coil is also grounded ?
                    @ Above_All
In the picture I have encircled the grounding location of lighting coil.
Does your bike also have same grounding location ?

                    Please confirm.

Also when I tried to de-solder with 60W iron nothing seemed to happen as the coil plate is just acting as a big heat-sink and dissipating the heat .
Note-I Will try again to de-solder when the engine is hot after riding at-least 6kms

Float it the solder it back again ?
Ground wire ?? Wheres that?Do you mean the end is which is soldered to the body as ground wire ?
(RR unit takes earthing from its shell/body directly)

Totally confused with these 100 cc bikes ,in most 150 cc just open the side cover that's it everything is in front of you.

Somehow I need to get the coil plate in my hand so that I can inspect the coils while sitting in home with proper lighting
Its very difficult to see the copper winding going from one pole to another in by sitting in a awkward position and no proper lighting.

                      Please help me out guys.

Check the attached picture for that portion , but i haven't touched that part , as i wanted the grounding wire as well as last terminal of coil outside for the AC to DC switching concept , so i just cutted the grounding wire ( attached to last end of coil ) in middle & solder two wires to both that wires & took them outside of magnet .

So you mean that it is the end of lighting coil ?
pls check the picture i uploaded earlier.

With the end of coil i mean the terminal of copper wire which is attached to a black wire & drove it further to the point of ground , i cutted that black wire , before some pages i posted a pic with arrows check it .

mamu, the circle shows the ground... you're spot on there.
I said float end of the lighting coil... now u have a wire which is also grounded (i.e. ground wire...) float it...
now you have 2 floating wires , 1st is ur lighting coil end, 2nd is your ground wire which has been floated... now connect the two (with insulation on top) & you're done...

Yes, I'm sure the ignition coil's 1 end is grounded.
