We used to face this many a time in our Guest House lane at Bangalore. Initially they used to bark like crazy&try to chase us. We came calmly&slowly. They barked a bit for a few more days.
Later we happened to feed them some left over chicken etc.&they became friendly&used to come to greet us whenever we were coming back from work! Not that they spared the other bikers though.
I have noticed that very few dogs actually bite anyone. They just chase people&cars for the heck of it. If walking, the stone strick works. If on a bike, best is not to give them attention, just cruise at a normal speed with sufficient gap. They realize you are not bothered&look for someone else!
Speeding up is a bad idea unless the road ahead is wide&clear.

Now Now..This is a Serious Issue.Consider My case- When I had My Bullet ,After 11PM ,it is a Menace to even think of travelling to My House in a Bike(Now the Situation is Better). The Dug Dug Sound of Bullet is very attractive to dogs it seems.Imagine My Plight When The Stray Dogs Operate as in a Secret Mission and Charges Suddenly Very Close from Sidewise with a Loud Bark! 1 or 2 Dogs Will Charge Suddenly from the darkest corner and Many times I sense the Heat of their breath on My Leg. There are 3 Places where These Dogs Chases. It is not Like a Group of Dogs.Bullet Cannot Accelerate the way a RX100 Bike can.I felt it was a luck that I don't get bitten by these creatures.

Seriously though, dogs only try attacking those who look like they're scared. Even if we stop, or slow down, they sort of think again about what they're doing, and if there might be some danger in it for them!

I have not tried and perfected this method, but it has worked most of the time. Don't blame me, if you stop while being chased and the dog gets you in a 'special' place..

^ No its not, pitbulls are totally hooligan,,train a rott well and its a really nice one to own.

I have dog trouble too,,, This seems to be their mating period..and dogs around my place have a taste for making love on car roof tops and they end up scratching the paint.

I now have no choice now but to buy a rott, german shefard or a doberman.

Well said bro. The thrill of the CATCH lies in the CHASE.

This mite sound really stupid but it works for me. Very well.
Use this only if u have a very few dogs who chase u regularly.
                  BECOME THEIR FRIENDS.
FEED THEM BISCUITS ( not for long).

Remember that once dogs catch ur smell ( and if ur already their friend) they will know ur approaching even few hundred metres away. They will not disturb u. If u know them ( fed them enough) say NO in a stern voice. They will listen.
                  Has worked for me.
                  should work for u also.

replying seriously: well i have faced this many a times, i stay in a place in bangalore which made headlines with the first of many attacks of dogg bites.

to be on safer side, dont rip on dog infested roads. the situation is like, all the cities are so developed and these stray dogs have no place to stay peacefully (thanks to the millions of cabs zooming at nites!).
So if at all a dogg comes near you, while riding, dont get panic, if the road is clear ahead, try to escape ASAP or just slow down.
i have observed this, a dogg chased my DISCO many times and i just slow down a bit and come to an halt, and the doggy will get back few steps, then i fly to save my life

this piece of info i saw in an local news channel, though i cant give you the exact source!

The continuous action and speed is what causes the chasing. The faster you go the more excited the dog gets.
One thing I have noticed is that the dogs tend to chase the type of vehicles which has hit and injured them earlier.

I ride slowly whenever dogs are around me. This worked for me always.

This was told to me by a villager and although funny it worked for me and also a few of my friends whom I advised in bangalore.

Actually the dogs are intimated by the sound of the bike as well as the look of something thats bigger in size and moving ahead of them. So they give a chase.

The remedy: Slow down and come to a complete STOP. The dogs will also stop a little distance from the bike but continue barking. Then you take a deep breath and scream at the dog (the villager told me to shout aloud to the dog in Kannada- Ee nayee Hoggo- which translates as 'you bloody dog get out of my sight'). I repeat shout that firmly and as loud as you can. Wait for a few seconds and slowly the dogs disperse. Once things have really cooled off, you start moving. Dont be afraid to stop- dogs very very rarely bite.

just stop and shout at the dog they keep barking and within a few secs they disperse..if still dogs dont go jus put side stand along with shouting get down fastly they wil get out of ur way..

this has always worked for me..near my place there are a lot of dogs chasing have seen a lot of guys crashing jus to escape from dogs...so dont panic immediately stop the bike they wil not do anything...

The consensus wisdom seems to be to slow down and not let them get the thrill of the chase .Lets hope I have the guts to do it.
