Blow the horn loudly and drive rash towards the Dogs and speed up - Dogs just get way as per my experience.

Buy an air pistol + good heavy pellets (i had triple head pellets, which could actually penetrate flesh when fired at close range)... force the dogs off your dialy commute road. Nobody is gonna catch you for shooting dogs in the middle of the night. Air Pistols dont require license. Can be bought for 650/700 bucks. Keep it in your tankbag/backpack.

We had 2 groups of dogs notoriously controlling our colony when we moved in. I borrowed an Air Pistol and bought a new one. me n my frind then rode bikes revving hard to disperse the dogs, corner each one and shoot at sight. This mission was completed between 2-3am on multiple days of riding. 1 week later, we were free of dog attacks in my colony.

BTW, a new set of dogs has finally arrived recently to our colony after a gap of 2 years.. so, time to oil my Pistols..

Anyways, while riding unprepared, i would recommend, keep safe distance and keep a safe speed (between 30-40kmph) around dogs, at that speed, its easy to zoom off/come to a halt in case of any drama as per situation demands.

Disclaimer: The Air pistol was only to scare off the dogs. No dogs were killed in any of the shootouts.

Best thing to do when you have a pack of dogs chasing you, is to come to a halt. The road next to my house has atleast 20-25 dogs, and my job (IT services anyone?) requires me to travel at odd hours. Trust me it works, I normally stop the bike, and wait for a while, then revv up like crazy which scares the $hit out of them. And yes, once in a while when I am in a bad temper, even turned the bike around and chase them

The access road to my complex has a garbage bin, which attracts dogs late at night. I have a bullet and an RX-135, both get the dogs attention when I pass by. In my experience, all I need to usually do is ride on sedately, ignoring them. And I am a sedate rider on the roads anyway, only rip on highways where straight lines can be maintained for longer. The trick I've learnt is to use the high-beam when approaching these dogs, the beam flickering causes them to look away for an instant, and I manage to ride by without slowing down or accelerating too much (40-60 kmph). I use the high-beam toggle method on the highways too, usually helps to get dogs away from the path I am headed in.

Revving away is a natural tendency when chased by a dog, there is nothing what anyone can do knowing their life is in danger and they may get bitten.
Once a dog bit my wife for absolutely no reason, the dog was lucky to go alive since I was on the verge of killing it.
Anyway, I dont have any soft corner for them or their life until they are disturbing or biting us (apologies to the animal lovers). Many kids were bitten to death by dogs in bangalore.
Though I love the domestic non-polluting dogs at home who are silent and not disturbing.

SEE, the point is to scare them away, do that couple or bit more times, and the dogs do remember these kind of things, and they'll remember that you are the one they don't have to mess when they see u again! But yeah, it's not a permanent solution though!
I do something similar during daylight. I try to chase them and scare them since they are weak in daytime. They know my bike as I can see they spare only me at night after chasing others.

Once it was around 1 AM and I was in my car, I had nice time then when a gunda dog group tried to chase my car. I braked sudddenly (one dog couldn't stop running and he hit the rear bumpers),I reversed, targeted, and chased the dogs till the end of our locality.

@Speed Pujari:Almost Same Thoughts.Government *Must* Enforce Dog Licenses.stray Dog's have eaten infant kids(Ref:Malayalam news paper).there are many incident that even they will target a well built Human as well.I believe ,when they are in groups as in like these street dogs ,they have their wild wolf like tendency to predate Anything on the Move.Imagine the Plight of People Who will be walking to reach Home during 10PM.These dog's won't spare them also.

this problem has grown recently after the 'construction boom' in places like Delhi and Mumbai/bangalore suburbs since a lot of construction laborers are used to keeping dogs on site to guard their sites and there they multiply, when they leave the site after completion most of the dogs are left behind and only one or two are carried along. And then these very dogs form gangs.

Frankly there is nothing to do, these dogs will attack anyone they feel is vulnerable. So people who talk of 'loving dogs' and 'wanting to take care of dogs' also should understand plight of common citizens who face the threat and are usually completely unprepared to do so.

these dogs have organised themselves around various landmarks and have clearly demarcated areas. When they are free to roam wild without any areas demarcated between them they do not create any trouble. But when the number of dogs grows and then they make packs and demarcate areas usually other wilder instincts also come into the picture.

best of option for bikers of combatting strays is to keep a couple of stray stones, a short cane and a knife in case the situation gets serious.

because sometimes the dogs go away once the rider slows down, but this might not work all the time esp if a biker riding a similar vehicle has hit some dog then they might not back away that easily since some dogs esp of 'alpha male' variety are not easily intimidated and are more than casual. Also a cigarette lighter or any loud cracker may also help. Most important thing is not to allow them to come too close or allow the pack to corner one from all sides.

Such small weapons are a must as also is the will to use them.

Just slowdown or stop the bike. Dogs can sense our fear , if we show it , it will try to make you feel scared. They chase you usually when u try to ride fast and escape..I basically love Dogs, so don't panic even if they are in a aggrasive mood. If u stop and allow them to sniff they will leave most of the time, thats my experience.

The best solution is to slow the bike down and move slowly ahead of them. I found one strange thing with dogs, they chase you when u r wearing a helmet .
I used to return home by around 3.00 am (second shift) when I was working in Chennai. I used to remove my helmet when I cross a "dog street" and ride slowly. They simply watch me and get away. But we should not have eye contact with them, also we should not rip b4 them.

I used to carry some snacks for them everytime to espace from them!
