Re: CBZ xtreme / Hunk
Sir,
Does having slightly loose Tappet setting result into lesser Compression (and resultant lesser pickup) ?
I understand that having tighter Tappet setting than recommended definitly results into lesser compression, hence lesser pick up.
Please clarify.

Tight tappets = compression loss, possibility of valves touching crown etc.Originally posted by dumb0 View PostSir,

Loose Tappets = improper valve duration, noisy engine.Motorcycling Experience:

The vibrations are pretty much there, and makes me not want to rev higher.
Is this normal for the Xtreme or am I looking at potential problems with the engine?
Do a routine maintenance of you bike first.
1. Oil : 10w30
2. Tappets : INlet - 0.06 outlet 0.1mm
3. Chain : slack adjustment
These are more than enough to make it road worthy.
Coming to your question of vibes. Yep take it from me , All the prominent members here are well versed with my hatred towards design and idealogy of this bike.
What i did to solve it ?
1. All of the above
2. install rubber pads below handle .
3. install rubber pads in alumunium footpeg mounting area.
What hero did wrong with this product ?
1. Peaky engine power delivery : For a commuter i just need good 0-80 speeds , But this engine feels dead below 5k rpm and needs lot of revving in hills for going anywhere. Due to which realtime Fuel economy is hampered as you keep on giving throttle but power is way up in the rpm band. This is pure layman words .
2. Suspension : I dont know who or what Hero guy was smoking when they made this suspension. Especially rear, It's horrible. For a commuter a soft/plush suspension is priority to take up bumps and smoothen out potholes. Instead Hero gave rear shocks made from adamantium probably. This bike really has real poor suspension . Funny fact : Each shock absorber costs : 2200/- each. For this misery.
4. Vibration Insulation : Whole of the bike comes with rubber mounts everywhere. But rubber padding / insulation is a stop-gap measure. A better answer lays in engine design itself. There is nothing much can be done to change the design now. Either live with it or find a engineering solution like i intend to.
3. Seats : Again same point, It's a commuter. Hero gave seats for MotoGP spec bike.
What did they nail ?
1. Cluster : Simply the best. I havent seen any bike below 2L with this beautiful cluster. The analogue and digital mix turned out to be brilliant.
2. Looks : Although subjective , I found it to be discreet and sleeper-like for its image.
3. Gearbox : Yep , No false neutrals and gear ratios are staggered to overcome lack of torque by this engine. The setup is such that you feel strained around 65 and calm around 80 for some reason.
End of rant
By writing this i might have put my leg deep into anthill , But before people start egging , I have had this product and 2 more from Hero in my garage, And have spent countless hours on refining / making this bike liveable.
So Hero needs to get priority straight on what to give in a commuter bike and what to give in a MotoGP spec bike.
So yes brother , vibrations are a real pain in this bike . You can minimize them but a single cylinder will always vibrate , How you perceive them is based on how good R&D is of the company.

That's why the difference in flash and normal.Originally posted by mechravi View Postso i have 2008 glamour.when cruising at 60 kmph during night with headlamp on the brightness is 50%.i can tell the diffference when i press the flash button.what can be the problem

Re: CBZ xtreme / Hunk
Try getting your wiring checked. And yes, when pressing the high beam flasher the headlight becomes a bit bright. Other than that, I would suggest getting a decent bulb and changing your old headlight reflector.Originally posted by mechravi View Postso i have 2008 glamour.when cruising at 60 kmph during night with headlamp on the brightness is 50%.i can tell the diffference when i press the flash button.what can be the problem
Here's what I have been using for a few days. It's better than stock lamp bulb.[My Motorcycles]

Re: CBZ xtreme / Hunk
Update.
I had initially got the bike serviced from Hero immediately after purchase as I didn't want to ride it with low oil or anything like that.
They did all that but the bike was okayish. Acceleration was ok, mileage was 40ish, bike would feel too tight at times, Throttle would get stuck at times etc. And also the vibrations that I've spoken about above.
My friend suggested me a mechanic close to my work place and took it to him.
He rode the bike and told me 3 things to do first so as to solve each problem and then move on to the next.
So the carb was cleaned and rejetted, chain slack was fixed, rear wheel had one of It's bearings done for, got both replaced, he adjusted the ball racer setup and replaced the throttle cable, adjusted the clutch also slightly to my needs.
Oh, the bike runs so different now.
It's quick now, very stable, handles much better. Vibrations have reduced, but he did acknowledge that vibes on this bike is a bit high.
I do have a tapping sound from engine, which I'll take care off later.
So thanks for all your inputs. I am much happier now.

detailing like a pro.
Its almost 8 years of my extreme. Has run 1 lacs+ kms. Love it to core. Runs so smooth, efficiently and pulls great. But last year with some personal incidents and all and marriage maintenance toom backseat and only required work was only done.
No polishing and no waxing. And parking outside at office caused the paint to oxidise and develop swirl and scratches.
Everyday i watch chemical guys, jp detail, topaz detail and all channels. Love all detailing videos.
But was not getting time for extreme. So this sunday got time for detailing extreme. And i like to do detailing myself.
So i decided to follow these steps for proper detailing.
1. Washing of bike thoroughly and making it spic and span.
2. Feel the paint, if it feels rough or abrasive claying is required. Mine didn't need it.
3. Used a 2k rubbing or compounding to remove oxidation and swirls. Also clean the paint.
4. Then used the polish to bring out the glaze and make the paint shine.
5. Used wax to seal the paint. Caranuaba wax.
6. Used plastic and vinyl dresser to gloss the matt black portion
7. Used liqui moly tyre dresser for tyres and rubber parts.
So lets look at the paint condition.
see the level of oxidation
Another photo:-
Paint has become horrible.
So products used
1: waxpol 2k rubbing compound.
One of the best products in market. Supreme easy to polish the paint and compound the top layer.
2. Sonax car polish
Contains micro polishing agents, lubricating oils and caranuaba wax.
3. Meguiars wax- A synthetic wax with caranuba wax. Gives the wet look and protects against dust, water and sun.
4. Waxpol- Dashboard and vinyl polis- Imparts the black look to matt black surfaces, clean the surfaces and protects against fading.
5. Liqui moly tyre dresser- cleans the tyre walls and gives a matt finish. Super easy to apply and wipe off. prolongs life of rubber parts.
6. 4 nos micro fiber towel- 2 nos was used for compounding. 1 was used for polishing, and one was used for final waxing.
7. Sponge and pads for applying and compounding.
8. A bucket with water to wet the pads during compounding and also cleaning pads while polishing.
So the process is as such.
Wet the applicator pad. Then squeeze it and just damp it. Not dripping wet. Just damp. Apply 2k rubbing compound on surface and polish the pad to surface.
Keep on polishing till it gets dry. Buff the surface. Use sufficient quantity on each panel.
Precautions:-
1. Be careful, this is cutting stage. Too agressive and you can cut the paint. It is the stage where expertise shows. Too much pressure and you damage the paint.
2. I use light or white microfiber towel. Can see how much paint and impurties has been cut.
3. Never polish with dry pad. Always keep the pad damp
After 2k rubbing compound
mudgaurd
Next step is polishing:-
1. Damp the pad and applying polishing liquid. Also apply a little on panel. polish the pad with light pressure in round circles while moving hand up and down. Mimic orbital polisher movement. Buff off with microfiber towel
2. Take care to make the pad damp and never dry it.
3. After 2k rubbing a little hazziness will appear. Polishing stage will clean the paint and shine it.
After polishing with sonax wax
Next step is sealing the shine:
1. Its no use if we don't seal the shine against sun and rain.
2. We use wax or sealant. I like wax because it gives a wet look. Sealant are more like coating.
3. love the meguiars wax as it gives a wet look and provides long lasting shine
4. Finish the matt plastics with waxpol vinyl polish and tyres with tyre dresser from liqui moly
wet look and mirror like glaze
mudgaurd applied with waxpol vinyl dresser. Backlight has gone through 3 stage detailing like rest of body
Took 3 hours for complete detailing.
A night ride on extreme with misses cleaned the mind.
