• Help regarding CBZ xtreme gear ratio

I have purchased CBZ xtreme 2010 about year back from my fried now i have purchased FZS and while driving FZ i noticed that at 5000 rps in fifth gear FZ reaches speed of 71 but when i am using Xtreme at 5000 rpm it reaches speed of 50 only and to reach speed of 80 RPM needs to be 7500 i have also checked with my other friends xtreme with same year model and it will do 65 KPH at 5000 rpm i don't know what wrong with my bike as my friend told 2 years back it had an accident in which front wiser and speedometer got damaged so he replaced speedometer but now speedometer it shows accurate speed and about tachometer i can feel that it shows correct rpm from vibration of bike at higher rpm

i have already replaced clutch plate and pressure plate of bike 3 months back

Please let me know is anything wrong with my bike and how i can fix this other wise i am planing to sell it and purchase unicorn

In stock gearing bike will touch following speed in fifth gear it will not go beyond 98

5000 RPM------- 50 KPH
6000 RPM--------62 KPH
7000 RPM--------74 KPH
8000 RPM--------87 KPH

my hunk would do exactly 63kmph @ 5000rpm....the front tyre inflation is also matters. over inflated ones will show less reading typically by 1 or 2kmpr or vice versa

Only two things can cause this .

1. Burnt or slipping clutch plates
2. Speedo error

Drive parallel to any new xtreme/hunk and see rpm and speed

5th gear 4k rpm will give 51/52 kmph and 5k will give 64/65kmph

So if its not speedo error , the clutch plates are badly worn

I have already replaced clutch and pressure plats 3 months back but result is same
I have also driven along cbz with same model and year speed matches but rpm shows 5000 for me where for others shows someware 4000
if I go over 5000 rpm i can feel more vibrations compared to my friends cbz at more than 5000 rpm

In Hunk I can feel vibs in range of 65-69 (may be bikes internal resistance) and after 70 its butter smooth and thrives for speed. Hard same exp from some other Hunk owners. So its normal if you feel vibs in 65-70 range, But after that you should not. Also engine oil is another thing you need to check.

Query Approved.

One suggestion would be sell the CBZ and get a Unicorn. Yes it's a good bike, but with spares are getting harder and the the reckoning time, long dead. My suggestion would be to look for another alternative.

Cheers!

Check if your clutch cable is free and not getting stuck. Also, ensure clutch is set properly with clearance at lever as mentioned in manual.

its very hard to adjust equally at both side and it seems left side has enough gap than right side or both has same size.

which is ideal spanner for adjusting chain, L type handle with 30 no. socket OR 30 No. ring spanner.
For adjusting chain you need the following tools:-
1. 30 No. ring or socket. Which ever you get. But getting the socket and l-handle you have an advantage, you can open and adjust the handle racer.
2. 22 No. ring wrench for axle bolt on silencer side.
3. 19 No. ring wrench for holding the axle bolt on adjuster side.
4. 10 and 12 No. open end spanner for adjusting bolt.

Ok for adjusting the chain follow the following procedure.

1. Hold the axle nut using 22 No. ring wrench on silencer side and open the half axle side nut using 19 no. ring wrench. Loosen it 5-6 rounds. Always open from half axle side and not from silencer side.

2. Now open the half axle bolt by 5 rounds using the 30 No. socket wrench and L handle.

3. Using the 10 no and 12 No spanner hold the 12 No nut and open the 10 No nut. This will loosen the lock. This is the chain side.

4. Now tighten the 12 No nut on chain side and observe the chain through hole. It will be getting tightened. Keep the chain play at 1.25 inch at tightest position of chain.

5. After proper adjustment is reached hold the 12 no nut and tighten the 10 no nut. This acts as a lock nut.

6. Now pull the chain with your left hand finger towards ground. Keeping the chain pulled tighten the half axle nut using the 30 No. wrench. The purpose of holding the chain by pulling down is that when tightening the half axle nut due to force of hand the chain adjuster slides back and chain gets tight.

7. Now the question is what about the silencer side adjuster?. Very easy. After tightening the half axle nut, the chain play is set and will not change. So now we will center the wheel. Loosen the silencer side chain adjuster. Rotate the wheel and slam the rear brake. Do it two or three times. You will see the adjuster will get loose and wheel moves to get centered.

8. Now keeping the brake pressed align the chain adjuster to center of swing arm and lightly set the adjuster screw such that adjuster remains centered. Now with the brake pressed tighten the axle nut. After the axle nut is tightened then only tighten the silencer side chain adjuster nut.

Now you will ask why this way and not seeing the markings. Its because seeing the markings and setting is the tedious job. Set the chain side adjuster and by brake centering the silencer side gets adjusted and is easier process.

In stock gearing bike will touch following speed in fifth gear it will not go beyond 98

5000 RPM------- 50 KPH
60000 RPM--------62 KPH
7000 RPM--------74 KPH
8000 RPM--------87 KPH
Clutch plates and pressure plates will not give such problems. As clutch plate will only give mis match only while accelerating.

The problem areas are what i am noting and how to check.

1. Speedometer- Check the speedo with another extreme in parallel. Yours will be analogue clock. So check with the same one. If both show same speed then yours speedo is correct.
2. Tachometer- It may be faulty but almost 0.001 chances of it being faulty. Check the idling speed. If it is near 1-1.2 k rpm it is ok. Also check the rpm by twisting, If it is going to 10k and not more then it is ok. But if the idling is at 1-1.2 k then tacho is ok.

3. Now check the wheels as to what they are. The stock extreme of your model has 2.75-18 at front and 100/90-18 at rear. If there is any other size at rear then your bike gearing will change. I am saying this as here i have seen extreme with 3.00-18 shod at rear. Change the tyre to this spec.

4. Open the chain cover and gear box sprocket cover. Check the front and rear sprocket. Stock extreme comes with 14T at front and 43T at rear. Any different then change.

And keep the clutch play at 5mm free play in between clutch lever edge and clutch yoke edge.

The problamatic bit will be 3 and 4 points. Check and get back to me.

Can you post a video of the sound. Though I suspect its the normal sound of any engine. Can also hear the same in a bajaj chetak.

Hi All,

Need one help.
Mineral oil (mostly all brands) only lasts 1000-1200kms and Semi-Synth for 1700-2000 km in my Hunk. After that I get engine vibes, harshness and stiff gearshift.
Is this normal in Hunk?
I am currently switched to Gulf pride 10-30 grade but still its the same. Engine harshness after 1800km. I mostly drive in 65-70 kmph range with moderate (30%) bumper to bumper citi driving.
Replaced Airfilter and spark plag and tuned carburator. Buts its the same.

If you're gonna go for mineral oils I suggest you choose shell. And as far as grading goes 10w30 oil is just too thin man. And that's why you get vibrations and roughness and short oil change intervals. Try 15w40 or 20w40. It lasts upto 2500kms and makes bike a lot smoother. Also yours is an air cooled bike 10w30 is a grade for liquid cooled or oil cooled bikes. Hope this helps

But in user manual its strongly mentioned to use 10-30 grade only. Thats what we find in all new HH bikes. Should I need to change to 20-40?

This is how spark plug look now. Ridden almost 250 kms from tuning.
Why so low mileage(37.91) even though tuning is perfect?
