Guys how much oil will the 2008 model hunk take in during oil change. I always get one litre bottle and use the dip stick to measure how much oil it needs, I am planning to switch to synthetic oil which is available in 900ml pack, would get that if its more than enough!

Only 900 ml is required for normal draining. But when you tilt the bike on draining it requires 1litre

Well that explains why my bike drank more than 900ml, I always tilt my bike to drain it completely.

Thanks for the quick reply

Can I fit the Pulsar 150 horn to the Hunk? Horns in Hero bikes are woefully inadequate imho.
Also how the hell do I remove the chain cover to clean and lube the chain? I don't want to pay the mechanic for these small maintainence tasks.

Thanx a lot pinaki da..

I removed tank , opened head cover with care and then started setting tappets , for first time one will be scared but it is not very hard to do . To my horror both tappets had no clearance at all . As i said before tappets can go tight as well as loose . For loose tappets it is pronounced with acceleration and tik tik noise when one is riding . Tight tappets can burn valves , loose compression and cause whole load of problem

I noticed you are in Mumbai , i am also residing in mumbai now in GTB nagar . If you want i can help in setting tappets . Tappets are something that can make or destroy the performance of bike

If possible drop that oil and fill in 10w30 . After all this i learnt hard way , after oil change and quick service i finished at home , on open road xtreme did 119kmph and could go even more if winds were not there . So it is more than possible to breach 120mark on xtreme provided it is kept mechanically sound .

Cheers
Hey bro I am from Dombivli.. Will be changing oil back to veedol 10w30 soon.
Yesterday while riding back to home from office i noticed some noise. I thought it is due to tappets but later i realized, it was due to wrongly fitted headlight which was vibrating post 50km/hr. It was removed during my fork oil chage job & to my surprise i found that son of b***h at ASC fitted headlamp assembly improperly & forget to put 1 screw of plastic cover. Usually we have two screws for each plastic cover near console, but he forget to fit one screw at bottom of right plastic cover. Can we get that type screw at ASC?
You are saying right bro, i need to start learning DIY stuff because i loosed complete faith on this junk heads at ASC. Can you tell me from where you got all the tools for tappet setting.?
Thanx in advance.

Had been on a ride yesterday.

Got a good stretch of road, so tried a Top Speed attempt.

I had a pillion onboard. Both of us together would be around 160kg I think. I couldn't crouch either, as there was a pillion.

Bike managed to reach around 8250 RPM in top gear and was doing 112kmph. What are the odds that if I were single, I could've reach a higher speed? I believe the 75kg lower weight and crouching would definitely aid in reaching a higher top speed? Also, by any chance, is it possible that the big bore needs a bigger main jet to perform better?

Also, I cleaned the slow jet today. I had issues with dismal low end torque and also the bike would occasionally shut off if I blipped the throttle a little bit. Also, one of the screws on the underside of the carb were damaged, as I mentioned earlier. Got it replaced with a minus screw I had lying around at home.

Without pillion and crouching you would have easily touched 9000 rpm or even crossed. Top speed would have been in the range of 118-120 kph. Even with pillion you would have touched 114-115 kph if you would have maintained some distance. Everything is all right, nothing to worry.

Today fitted 55w bulb.quite happy with the result.there is a slight time lag in switching between low and high beam.power is quite better than 35w. But I made a big mistake .
I tried to change the pilot bulb by myself without removing the head assembly. It was bit difficult because it needed some effort.by finally when I turned the key ON, the ignition doesn't switched ON.I think while fitting the bulb I might have pulled the main wire.can't stat my bike now. None of the light is switching on.....have to take it to mechanic tomorrow. Really felt bad for messing it up.... :banghead: :banghead:

Hi guys,

Went to ASC today. Showed him bike which was making noise post 4000 rpm. Main culprit was loose crash guard which was making krrr noise. Got chain lubed, switch gears luned as they became pretty hard to operate.
Result...Back to smoother ride....

Also when i asked about feeler gauge stuff to supervisor, he told me that they uses 0.05 for inlet & 0.1 for outlet. When i asked about feeler gap mentioned in manual, he said after setting tappets, they removed it so it gets adjusted to higher gap, like when used 0.05 gauge after tightening tappet screw while removing gauge it became 0.07-0.08.

I was like...

Bike is running fine, and needing some TLC which will do in Dusherra holidays.

On 8 th monday had to go to home since sister was leaving for her job on 10th. So took leave for two days and left office by 4:30 pm. As usual by the time reached Highway it was dark. Have to go 105 km in dark. no problem since bike's light was absolutely amazing. And besides i like riding in night as Highway are usually empty and devoid of morons from the side settlements near major crossings.

Stopped at a petrol pump to fill fuel. Took some rest and clicked some photos.

Led parking lamp glowing bright and looks very good. "Tiger tiger burning bright in the darkness of night"

The sign of the petrol pump on highway. Gives a sinister feeling on dark Highway. Also look at the moon shining bright in the darkness of night.

Another shot of rear tail-lamp. The Led lamp on the extreme is one of the best in its segment.

The same photo with night mode on. The brightness of the lamp can be seen in this photo. The rear brake light is even brighter.

The meter console. The whole meter is of LED light, and in dark night looks fantastic. One of the best looking speedometer console as i love the analogue tacho a lot. Although it make look analogue but both tacho and fuel meter are digital with stepper motor in it.

I have another picture but is not loading. will upload when on broad band.

By the way that night itself i checked the mileage after filling from this pump. Bike returned a mileage of 56 kpl with speeds ranging from 75-80 kph.

Another incident i would like to mention, which denotes how reckless people are and have no care for others or owns life.

After filing petrol from the pump, two Hyundai i10 filled from same pump. They were having two families. Since they were also going to bhubaneswar, followed them as following cars in night is much safer.

Near a place called Nirakarpur, the highway is slight incline and on the middle of incline, there is an indica parked middle of the highway at an angle of 45 degrees. Both the I10 and i passed the indica and the car was still and the driver was leaning on the steering.

Fearing that the indica will be run over by trucks, we stopped. The driver from both i10, gents member and me went towards the indica. Since we were a total of 7 gents member so i stopped else in that dark and lonely highway i wouldn't had stopped.

On inquiring the driver was so much drunk that he was barely in his senses. The i10 driver parked the car on the side of road, and then we all went away.

How reckless can a person be?
God bless the drive.
U r getting very good mileage considering the speed. Is it the DIY principle.? Iam tired of complaining ASC. BTW do u have stock bulb.?

Yes its because of my obsession of keeping everything perfect that the mileage is always good.

Yes i have the stock bulb and it is Philips German bulb which cost Rs. 220. Planning to get Osram Night racer which 35 watt version of Night breaker.
