That said, these are the tools I used for Adjusting Tappets(In order of usage):

Star screwdriver to remove the side panels
Size 12 spanner to remove the petrol tank
Size 10 T Spanner to remove the bolts of the compressed air tube and the head cover
Pliers to remove the clips of the compressed air tube
Size 10 ring spanner to loosen the locknut
10mm Allen Key to remove the Inspection Hole cap
"L" handle with a size 19 fitment to turn the crank shaft
    Tappet adjustment tool

I use the following tip, forget the T mark F mark etc., when I was rotating the crankshaft anti clockwise using the L Handle, I stop after every stroke and check the tappets, when both of them are loose, of course the piston is in TDC. Also, during this stroke, you will hear something like the sound a gas strut makes. I then adjust the tappets and then remove the spark plug and then turn the rear wheel a few time when the bike is in gear. After this, I then fit back the spark plug and again get the piston to TDC and then check the clearance again and adjust if required.

Also, I did what Sibun asked me to today. After overnight parking, I let the bike idle for around 30 seconds before setting the clearance. Seems to have helped!

Here's some more valuable information from the man @sibun himself.
Do not touch the tappets and let it run for some kilometers may be 2-3k before adjusting. Then we will see the tappets. usually after heating its the exhaust rocker that makes noise. Let it remain as such.

But why are you opening so much. I just adjust the tappets without removing tank and all, but it does require some skill in working in the tight space.

That tappet we will look into after 2k kilometers. I am there, nothing to worry.

And i forgot to update on my bike. Bike is now at 39.5k and on 14th september the bike turned 3 years. The front brake pads are worn out and will change this sunday with new DOT 4 brake fluid to make the brake perform like new. Also the chain sprocket was changed at 37.5 k and also the shock oil.

    Will update more tomorrow.

Yes, I have decided to let the bike be for now. Only concern now is a clogged slow jet that I will clean this weekend. The low end torque is dismal right now.

As for the parts I remove to get to the tappets, well, I feel that more space helps me do a more thorough job. :P Moreover, the entire process took me 40 minutes flat. To get the bike out to applying sealant and putting everything back together. So not much of an issue.

Wow, and I thought my bike has piled on loads of kilometers! I got my bike on the 20th of January, 2011. Covered 31000km recently. :P

Changed Chain Sprocket kit once. Is this the first chain sprocket kit you are changing? :O

As for the clogged slow jet, i have told you to open the float chamber using pliers so that it will open in jiffy.

You are telling me that it takes 40 minutes. You will not believe i adjust tappets in 10 minutes flat. People would not have finished a cup of tea and i would have finished adjustments of tappets.

As for the kilometers then let me tell you that i bought my bike on 14th september 2011, and till january 2013 bike had run only 6.8k. Then from january 2013 till now bike will touch 40k, that means 34k in 1.5 years. Every week bike runs an average of 500 kms and some week 1000-1500 kms. Yes you heard it right some weeks bike cross 1000 kms of running.

This is nothing as compared to my Joy as during the year 2008-2012 my Joy used to run so much that i used to change engine oil in 10-12 days, shock oil every 2 months and yearly running was in excess of 40k kilometers. Now running has reduced on Joy to yearly 10-12 k kms.

Yes this is my first chain sprocket. The rear sprocket teeth had become like hook as a result the wheel was jamming as if chain is tight. Would have lasted long but incessant rain and high speed cruising on highway made the chain dirty with sand and tus wear out the chain set. Also during free service the mechanic damaged the chain by full tightening.

Do not go for Dunlop Monster trail as it is a off road tyre and also is very heavy. GO for Dunlop Geo cruiser as it is best when coming to grip and cornenring. Used to come in first model CBZ and some model of CBZ extreme.

My bike has done around 38k with stock chain/sprocket. It becomes loose frequently and sprockets are like spikes if not hooks.
I have removed one link 6k kms back during engine overhaul. Planning to change it soon.
Which one did you go for? OE or DID/Diamond

              Hello friends

              Update of my Extreme..
Completed 6735 kms on ODO. Adjusted chain slackness just 2 weeks ago so no gear slip problem now. But post oil change, i feel engine is getting more heated. Is it due to change in Oil (Shell Ax7 10W40). And the generic problem arrived, TAPPET NOISE. I don`t understand why we need to adjust it every now & then..why this happens? Can this be happen due to excessive heat, due to change in oil grade. Its 2nd time this stuff happening with me. In past when i got my ride, this problem arrived within 1st 200 kms. I am doubted about ASS near my area, because i still remember how they did my fork oil change job, so will be visiting them to make sure they have all the required tools.
What will be cost all tools required for tappet adjustment. My bike still new & i am also not confident about this kinds of DIY stuff, so i am not daring to open it at home. Will do it one i will gain all the required tools & knowledge.

Oh my, those are some startling numbers! 😲

And by the time you've used 1 chain sprocket kit . I've almost used up two!

Also, bike returned 47.5kmpl for the last 294.4km. This is inclusive of the running on the various valve clearances I tried over the past week. So I expect the mileage to increase hereon.

Dunlop geo cruiser is not available here in 18 inch tubeless model. Any other tyres from mrf or ceat or tvs with good grip and long lasting. By the way monster trail available here in tubeless model.

Also, can we use tyres that aren't marked as tubeless on a tubeless rim? Eg. The Zapper Q. Looks like a good tyre, but not available in tubeless.

Valve lash increases as the valves wear down on their seats . So tappets become loose and make noise . This wearing is more when the valve and seat are new , it shall reduce over time and require less and less adjustments . Don't be afraid to work on your bike , at most what can go wrong with these simple machines ? If you get stuck somewhere , you can always take it to the ASC or local mech and fix it . Jyada se jayda , this only . This is how I myself gather courage for DIY on my bike . Upto now , with the help of all the friends on xbhp , I never broke my bike . I keep this in my mind always - if I am afraid to break my bike , I'd better not ride it

That sounds really good, to whom should i send my no. to join whatsapp grp..Just let me know.. You are also on Tbhp..? I read your post of FZ`s front break master cylinder fitment. Just want to know what is benefit of using front break line of pulsar 220 on our xtreme/hunk. Is it superior than our & it seems much thin than ours.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion guys. Will definitely do it once i finished my free services Just took her out for night ride & voila... No Tappet noise, though i ridden just 5-6 kms. Whereas when my ride was newly bought, that time tappet noise started appearing within 5-6 kms of riding. So is there any relation between engine getting heated & tappet noise because it is audible only when i rode bike above distance of 30+ kms & bike gets sufficiently heated. I am confused now, is it happening due to SHELL OIL?
SIBUN bro could you provide detail or previously discussed link about our bike tappets, working, its adjustment & how we can judge whether our tappets are properly adjusted or not without opening head cover.

Yes , tappet noise appears when engine gets hot , infact you'll hear it only in your longest rides . Minor tappet noise is normal in a hot engine , not a problem . Loose tappets don't cause any damage to engine . It's better to have a little loose tappets than little tight .

Prathm , pinaki da has said very true lines , one should start worrying if tappets go quite , i set my tappets first time in 13k kms and even that time they never made noise , reason i checked was i was facing low mileage and erratic idling and power loss at low rpms . I removed tank , opened head cover with care and then started setting tappets , for first time one will be scared but it is not very hard to do . To my horror both tappets had no clearance at all . As i said before tappets can go tight as well as loose . For loose tappets it is pronounced with acceleration and tik tik noise when one is riding . Tight tappets can burn valves , loose compression and cause whole load of problem

I noticed you are in Mumbai , i am also residing in mumbai now in GTB nagar . If you want i can help in setting tappets . Tappets are something that can make or destroy the performance of bike

If possible drop that oil and fill in 10w30 . After all this i learnt hard way , after oil change and quick service i finished at home , on open road xtreme did 119kmph and could go even more if winds were not there . So it is more than possible to breach 120mark on xtreme provided it is kept mechanically sound .

                            Cheers

                              Hi Guys,

2~3 days ago, I planned to change air filter and bought a new one.
But while changing, a weird Idea came to my mind.

I put a 2" x 2" hole in the center old air filter, covered it with a a 0.25" thick sponge.
                              And fitted it back.
Now I am feeling an increase in power. Will this setup damage my ride or engine?.
one thing is mileage increased slightly I thin.
Been riding like this for abt 150km.

What you have done has increased the air intake, if your earlier mixture was rich then you have made it leaner. So you got more air for better combustion (more power) & a leaner mixture for better economy. If the air fuel mixture is on the leaner side then the engine will heat in excess (not good for engine). Though you have placed a sponge but was it a filter material sponge as dust & dirt particles can take toll on your engine in long term. All the best. Ok I was here to ask the cost of front brake pads of HH CBZ xtreme (the with the red rear alloy).
