I dont rip too much and mostly in Bangalore city driving conditions. My mechanic said the same as to not to tune the AFR.
Also, Whenever I have cold starts I need to raise the throttle couple of times. Use choke for 1-2 mins and then idling is good.
Once bike heats up nicely for 10-15mins, the response is good with smooth exhaust note.
Using Veedol oil. Given first service to HH and after that Unique Bike Service in BSK, BLR.
Jithin has already told about tappets and chain. Get that cleared out first. Regarding afr, there is no single or universal AFR for same bike. Altitude and odo readings also change afr should be.
Judging by your choke usage in cold start i believe you are running little lean, turn afr screw 1/8th turn anti clock and see if cold starts are better.
I would advise to do a carb tune if you can and after that you wont ever require choke on cold start and idling would be lot better
Jith_in if you could post your idling video post carb clean and tune it would be really helpful.
Carb Tuning made easy (Thanks Sibun !)

Replace air filter on 8k interval and spark plug at 10-12k Shift at 4k rpm and give throttle smoothly. Keep tyres properly inflated. I am living in a small town here in Kerala so not much of traffic hassle.
This is what i do on my bike. Hope this helps
Nice guidelines...
One observation I have is immediately after air filter change mileage increases by 2-3 kms but the fun ends after couple of weeks
My mileage is also in the 40 km/l league, never shown above 45kmph no matter whatever I tried. The ride is in pure city traffic though.
And one more observation my end is, with little bit fiddling of AFR screw, mileage doesn't change much.

It's been a while since I have posted here.

My bike had been giving me very loud noises lately, for almost one year. The normal mechanic I used to visit always passed it off as nothing.

But of course, we aren't the kind who take kindly to strange noises. I looked for another mechanic who was reported good and headed there.

Now, as soon as I got there. I started the engine and he said that the cam chain had gone kaput. Now, this was suggested to me one year ago by Sibun merely by listening to my engine through videos.

TIP 1: Take Sibun's advice very, very seriously

So, along with the cam chain, they would go on to change the valves, do valve lapping, do a head overhaul, new piston rings, new engine oil. Total cost was Rs. 3,008. They said the engine noise should be gone for good. One more thing that bothered me was, I asked them to use a Bosch 10W30 oil costing Rs. 239/liter. But they billed me Rs. 302 for the oil. Not the same oil? Probably.

I rode around a bit and was reasonably happy. The bike was definitely smoother and quieter. Then I found out that as I rode longer, there was another loud thrashing noise from the engine.

Took it to an ASC for inspection and he said my engine was about to seize and that a rebuild would cost me Rs. 14,000. I laughed at his face and rode out.

Got it to the new mechanic again. He said he would call me the next day.

Here too, Sibun told me to get the oil pump checked as he felt the head wasn't getting enough oil.

The next day, he tells me the crankshaft bearing was to be replaced and a new bore and piston as well. I ask him to check the oil pump. He was adamant that if the oil pump was malfunctioning, the engine would've seized by now. I asked him to wash the bike and just leave it at that.

Contacted Sibun, got the parts required and sat down to replace the oil pump. The oil pump cost Rs. 375 and the oil pump gear Rs. 180. I had nothing to lose here. If the issue was not the oil pump, I would only lose Rs. 600. If it was the oil pump and I went in for a rebuild, I would lost Rs. 6000.

On inspection, I noticed that the old oil pump wouldn't offer any resistance to turning. While the new one did. The oil pump had indeed failed.

There. Sibun was right again.

TIP 2: Sibun is always right.

I drained out the old oil and put in fresh Hero oil. And cleaned the oil filter that looked like it hadn't been cleaned at all.

I let the bike sit for two days and rode again.

To my amazement, the bike was smooth, the noise was almost completely muted, it accelerated like it did right out of the showroom and it was fun to ride again. The irritation and annoyance I had while riding when the noise would occupy my ears no longer existed. The little noise that does exist now is because of seized rocker arm bearings according to Sibun.

And in an area with terrible, terrible traffic jam, the champ returns an FE of 47kmpl.

All in all, many, many thanks to Sibun. If it wasn't for him, I would've been Rs. 5500 poorer by now.

As for the FE discussion,

1) Tappets. 0.06mm inlet and 0.10mm exhaust
2) Carburetor
3) Chain slack
4) Chain quality
5) Bike cleanliness
6) Air filter

Check these six parameters. These are mechanically essential to getting good FE. Keep the chain clean as much as possible as well as the bike. You will notice what a difference it makes if you try pushing the bike before and after a nice, good chain cleaning session and bike wash.

Again, thank you Shoeb, Rohit, Gurpal, DS and Sibun and all the others here for making me fall in love with my bike again.

Thanks mates. So, will take to the mechanic to get Tappets/Chain Slack and Carb Tuning done this weekend.
I am regularly giving my bike to Unique Bike Service BSK2nd stage. Any BLR guys suggest good mechanics near BSK please. Would be helpful if quality is good.

Come on you have just praised me a lot. And thanks for that.

As for your problem i can, from video clearly deduce that the rockers, camshaft, and timing chain all are running, dry. It can be clearly heard from head. There is nothing special in it. If those mechanics cannot hear it then they are dumb and not fit for repairing bikes.

I have for this reason always respected my mechanic as he listens to me and even suggests me better ideas on hearing me.

And regarding i am always correct then yeah sometimes when you have years of experience you automatically get the uncanny habit of getting to the roots of the problem in one go.

And what is the use of my knowledge when i do not help others. Knowledge is for helping others. If i do not share my knowledge, no need of gaining knowledge. I study a lot even now on automobiles. I try to get whatever i can.

And i am glad that many like minded persons are my friend.

But sadly my knowledge has no values. At least in india. May be if i would have been a country like germany which i known for its automobiles, i may have been able to put use to my brain and knowledge.
I am waiting for the the time when my knowledge will get its value.

Ashwin has said much. You are new to this thread. Go through all the pages and read the posts. Pay special attention to my posts. You will get to know a lot.

You are new, let the craziness slowly build up. No mechanics will get your bike to top condition. You yourself can. Case with aswin. He followed my advice which none of mechanics agreed.

Result is in front of your eyes.

Updates on my bikes:-

My bike engine has been overhauled and tyres have been changed. As usual overhaul was as per my specs a complete and meticulous overhaul. Better than factory engine with tighter clearance.

The front tyre was changed to ceat secura zoom and rear zapper Q. The rear is from mrf nv series and according to mrf website it is a radial tyre.

Total cost came to Rs. 13000.

Will post in details soon.
This time no photo. But a complete video of engine overhaul.

Update on my bike. Its being more than 1.5 month, since cam carrier work done. Put brass bushing, but it failed(Thanx to mech who over torqued head bolt, result: Complete brass bush came off along with head nut). Did setting of timing scrocket & adjusted tappets as per specs later on. Inlet: 0.06, Outlet: 0.1. Bike gives tappet noise sometimes a little bit. Little bit of oil leak on head & below left side bottom between crankcase & bore kit. Next service will do mysel(cleaning chain, lubing it. Dint lubed since last 2000+kms & filter cleaning & will change if required, fuel cap painting since black paint is scrapping off).

Dear Brother where have you been all this time? We have been looking for you

Anyway as you know I ride a 2015Hero hunk and i complained a lot of time regarding vibrations.
Update: Installed pulsar UG3 handlebar along with bar end weights for a littlebit front biased seating position (With the rear set foot pegs it feels great)
Result: Handlebar vibrations just vanished
After 18,500 long kms, my bike felt amazingly smooth within the rpm range of 4-5.5k rpm and i dare to say it is as smooth as a trigger. Vibrations do exist within 5.5k to 6.5k rpm and again after 8000rpm but its quite tolerable now. I also installed unicorn chain sprocket and happy with it specially with its touring capability ([email protected] only 85kmph).....and even after overgearing this beast redlines at 5th gear at around 118kmph.

Anyway brother why do we recommend .10 and .06mm tappet adjustment when the manual says .12 and .08mm?

Can you post the pics of your handle bar ?
Even I own a 2015 Hunk (just 2.5k kms though) and have observed vibrations, but I think that the vibrations are lower if we idle the bike in morning for some time (say 1-2 mins) before starting to ride. I dont know if its in my head or its actual behavior, experts may be able to comment on this. Im also thinking of changing the spark plug after some time to iridium or GP series to improve low end behavior

Its not in your head, you will notice it more vigorously if you ride another trigger/fz/gixxer. anyway you dont need to change the handlebar, just install pulsar bar end weights and it will do. due to the bar end weights heavy weight vibrations are reduced.

Anyway can please state the nature of vibrations in your bike. For example: there is a slight petrol tank vibration right from 3k rpm. vibrations starts highly within 5.5k-6.5k rpm and after 8k rpm due to vibrations pillion will want you to slow down.

Stick with stock plug, Iridium is not available for hunk, G power is available but it doesnt make any noticeable difference.

Hope it helps.

In my Hunk slight vibration starts after 4k rpm.Earlier it was intense. When missing started replaced the spark plug with the same stock model, the happiness lasted only for a week. Now the vibration after 4k rpm is back but not as intense as with the old plug.

I am always there man. You have my number and i think you are the only caller from that side of border from bangladesh. I am active on whatsapp on that number. So you can also whatsapp me.

As for the vibration its because of the handle bar weights. If you had used the handle bar weights from ZMR or apache on the stock handlebars then also vibrations would have reduced.

Yes this bike redlines on 15T also. Hunk is already short geared than extreme and so it will easily redline.

I have touched 124 kph on extreme on 15T sprocket.

I recommend 0.06 mm and 0.10 mm to compensate for the wear on the bearings of the rocker arm.

Because at 0.08 and 0.12 mm rockers will cause ringing sound.

Did Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai run over weekend. On the way to Pune, hitted one deep pothole on highway badly (Was following swift at 80 km/hr, suddnely pothole came). Pulled over to see any rim damges. Luckly no such thing happned but when checked engine, head gasket started leaking slightely with oil spil (Brass bush job is totally failed bro... Now cant even put that aldilite you said as one bush is in hole that too half damaged & another tightened with head screw). Reached khopoli with riding 40- kmph. Luckyly found one HERO garage. That guy changed gasket(Damage: 150 Rs labour +70 Rs Gasket). Went for spin, again its leaking. Then he applied sillicon based packing tube on gasket as well as on head screw(Another 30 Rs). Now area near head dont even have a single oil drop. Also it dnt looked fugly like it was looking before(Being sillicon based gel looks transperent, not like white coloured packing which mech put when head job was done). Asked him, why this bike make so mcuh tappet noise & unicorn dont, he said unicorn have high compression & Xtreme have low compression n i was like WTF? Dint bothered to ask anything there after. Got 44-45 kmpl (Ripped to 80-90-100-115, 65+ all the time).
