Is that 11-11-11 the MFD on the bottle? If it is then man that's old stock. I remember someone on http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/universa...gine-oils.html thread pointing out that the can(bottle) gives up before oil does during long term storage on the shelf.

Yeah, it's on par with Shell AX7 price-wise, 355/- per litre even though JASO certified.

Synthetic oil has got several additives, which are added to synthetic motor oils to increase their shelf life, and to produce stable oil that will maintain proper viscosity and will flow correctly at low temperatures, and meet other test parameters at a wide temperature range.Additives do number of things to prevent oil from getting degraded during stored process, you can even store an open bottle, the bottle should be tightly capped and stored in a dry place. Additives are used to improve the viscosity that is preserved for longer durations during the shelf life. The unit of viscosity is SUS, and its maximum recommended limit of fluctuation or deviation is plus or minus 15%.

Pour point depressants are used to decrease the freezing point of oils
Dispersants and detergents assist in keeping the oil clean and avoiding the formation of sludge. Contaminants are suspended in oil due to the use of dispersants
Oxidation inhibitors preserve the stability of oil. Rust and corrosion inhibitors are used for protection against condensation.
Defoamants prevent foaming of the oil.
Alkaline additives are used for the neutralization of acids. This characteristic is measured in Total Base Number (TBN).
Oils with greater value of TBN will provide better acid neutralization.

Ya. I noticed it. Still bought it by knowing it has shelf life of 5 years.

Thank you Sibun for the information...

I have arranged a meeting with the Hero Service engineer to find the real problem.. as bike is unable to cross 65km/hr speed after change of clutch plates.

Will updated all after his assessment and solution.

If your bike has not completed 6 months you can get new from the showroom it self...

What is the difference between fork oil change and fork overhaul. Does fork overhaul is required for fork oil change?

Oil change means just opening top cap , letting old oil out and filling new , overhaul means dismantling stanchion and fork tube using a piston remover and thoroughly cleaning each part , a change of seal is required. If oil change is prompt and regular then overhaul is not much needed until seal leakage starts .

I have posted in this thread the whole procedure , but anyways will explain in brief

                      1. Open front wheel 14/18
                      2. Loosen fork bolts 12/15
                      3. Remove brake caliper 12
                      4. Remove front mudguard 8
                      5. Tie caliper to leg guard with string
                      6. Loosen pinch bolts 13

Pull out only one fork , open top cap , dont know the spanner for it may be 16 or 17

Drain oil for 5 min , pump it and keep it idle , Fill in 155-160 ml oil , Gulf or Veedol only dont touch castrol it is bad. Pump fork to get air out , go slow or oil will squirt out . Fit top cap , reassemble and repeat for next fork.

My front fork oil was changed around 1000km ago.

Today, I was just running my hand over the forks. One of the forks(the metal bit) feels like it has a very, very thin layer of oil on it.

It feels slippery while the other doesn't. Something I should be concerned about? A Cone Set change is due in about 2000km. Can I take care of the same then; or must I get it fixed pronto?

wipe both the forks down with a clean cloth and mild detergent water.. and check again after a couple of days.
If the leak is bad get it fixed asap, or you could wait a couple of weeks and have it replaced along with service and coneset replacement.
Ride carefully/slowly if you have a leak , braking hard will make the leak worse.

How much amound of oil is to be poured 150ml or 160ml? (No fork overhaul just oil change)
