Not required in general. If you have the moolah and do not mind spending extra 230 bucks, change oil at every 1200km. It may be better.Originally posted by Choto Cheeta View PostWith my Hunk, I change my engine oil at 2k kms.. Is it needed ti change at every 1200kms ??

sorry for the late reply i was busy with some stuff
.
completed 700km in 3 days elf is impressive.My 1st gear has never felt this smooth right upto 5kRPM.I can fell a smoothness when i downshift too.
I fell in love with the bike all over again
.it revs more freely now .
I am cursing myself for not using the elf much earlier
.Bp oil for HH only lasts 900km then engine becomes rough.I think elf is great
.I hope it stays this way for another 500km.....
@master-user the threads author is OLD FOX.
Today their was a lot of rattling noise from engine.the mechanic said it was the tappet.then made me wait for 2 hrs(said engine was too hot it needs to cool).he removed the tank and was tinkering for 1/2 hr then came and said gasket headcover needs to be changed.also bolt slang needs to be changed.i said to go ahead.
CHARGE:
gasket hdcover = Rs83.
bolt = Rs4.
Labour = Rs50.
no noise observed after that.Hope it stays that way

Elf 10W 30 costs Rs 160 here in kanchipuram(TN).Originally posted by Raccoon View PostHow much does the Elf oil cost?
You are lucky that that mechanic waited till the engine cooled. I'v seen them do it on hot engines!
Was this an authorised HH Service Centre?
I am not surprised 'cause i tip him heavily
Yep its a small HH authorised service center near my village 20km to be exact
@ravi@17bhp i asked the mech. if its advisable to change the oil every 1200KMS
He said that would be the best thing to do period

That is what I 'believed' and have been doing the same for my bike since I bought it. Have been doing the same for my car too.Originally posted by sarbanoxley View PostElf 10W 30 costs Rs 160 here in kanchipuram(TN).

You better stick to HH oil; it is the best you can get. You also can try Gulf 10W30 oil. Better not to try any other oils.

2)I feel a smoothness when i downshift in elf which i dont feel in the company oil .
3)when i cross 80+km/hr engine is much smoother when using elf cant say the same about the company oil.its wierd but pickup seems to have increased and the way it accelerates smooth as butter its addictive
i
didnt feel this way when using HH oil
4)on highway riding their is a notable difference in the way the bike perform and its cheaper than the HH oil
HH oil is a crap thats my 600km experiance
.the point is even a noob like me can feel the oil working(dont laugh
)
dont get gulf in my place i will try it next time i visit some town

Mmm... interesting. My karizma runs smoooth on HH oil. Regarding Elf oil, I do not have much experience with it. It is good that you have liked it and thanks for the inputs regarding the Elf oil. Will try it sometime.Originally posted by sarbanoxley View Post1)HH recommends 10W 30 the elf oil is of the same grade

Also, of late, the HH oil is being supplied by both BP and Idemitsu. May be you have tried the one supplied by BP. I would swear by the oil supplied by idemitsu. Of course, as you told, may be Elf is better; would have to check it.

There is one more source of HH oil - Tide Water Oil! Haven't tried it though... till now I'm using Idemitsu HH oil. It seems to work well... but haven't used any other oil, so can't make a comparative statement.
But now I'm gonna try Gulf... already got a bottle. If you want to try it out, go to the Gulf website and email them. They will tell you if you can get it in your area. They were VERY responsive when I emailed them.
There should be no problem in using Elf as it meets/exceeds the specs of the HH oil.
As for changing the oil at 1,200 km, obviously the mech will reply in the affirmative... keeping your heavy tips in mind!
And 1,200 km oil change for cars???
Dude, you gotta be kidding...!

Instead of regular oil change at 10000km, I am chaning at every 5000 km.
Got a bottle of Gulf from Metro Cash & Carry for 167 bucks. Right now I am using Honda engine oil from Idemitsu. Next change is Gulf.
