  • Hi Friends

Posting after a very long time.. Hope ya all enjoying your rides..

I own Gladiator DLX, Jan 2007 Registered, 38k Kms done.

I thought of selling my glady and getting a new one. But I am somehow sentimentally attached to it. Because its there with me in my ups and downs took me wherever I want in emergencies.. its like a close friend of me and I am very much attached to it.. (Sorry for boring story just wanted to express my feelings about my close buddy)..

I have decided not to move on and stick with my buddy.. Now I want your valuable suggestions to give my steed a new look..

    Budget 10 to 15k...

    Some modifications in my mind:

    1. White and Black painting jobs.. (No Stickering work)
    2. Yezdi round doom
    3. 100/90 headlamps
    4. some good horns..
    5. No Saree guard..
    6. Maintenance free drive chain
    7. chain guard like in new gladiator.
    8. Already have K&N installed, Have to get a box for that and have to set it up properly. (Right now it is tied with iron string)
    9. RD Handle.

Let me know if anyone tried Round doom, 100/90, RD Handle and suggest if it is recommended.

    Waiting eagerly for your suggestions..

Okay. Even i have been thinking of visiting ruby electricals from a long time now. But have always been in two minds. I asked about the recharging rate because in the light thread, people recommend a change to ape rectifier. Im sure ill be giving this mod a thought again. Realised yet again today that the headlight on the gladi is like holding a candle at speed. Hit a pothole hard on the highway.
Got my diaphragm changed and finally happy with my bike . Mind blowing performance. Prashanth, ya people do recommend ape rectifier but Ruby guy has his own rectifier and its really good. All you need is to take your bike there and tell dc conversion. He ll do it for you.

        Some modifications in my mind:

        1. White and Black painting jobs.. (No Stickering work)- Might look nice. Depends on the design of the paintwork.
        2. Yezdi round doom- I have seen a few gladis with it. Looks decent. Might give better throw of light.
        3. 100/90 headlamps- I don think it will make any difference. Might drain ur battery.
        4. some good horns- Well, this one is left to you. I mean depends on your use of the horn. Please don't get those irritating horns though
        5. No Saree guard..- Easiest mod of the lot. Hardly a mod actually. Its just removing a part. Although, it does change the look from behind a bit.
        6. Maintenance free drive chain- What exactly do u mean by this. Sorry for my ignorance.
        7. chain guard like in new gladiator- If the routes you take aren't too dusty, then i would say it is okay. Otherwise the new chain guards are basically cost cutting for companies i think
        8. Already have K&N installed, Have to get a box for that and have to set it up properly. (Right now it is tied with iron string)- Hope you have upjetted the carb properly, after installing the filter.
        9. RD Handle- Good addition after getting the round doom.

Let me know if anyone tried Round doom, 100/90, RD Handle and suggest if it is recommended.

        Suggestions in bold.

          Hi,
I was wondering how long it takes to procure the spare parts from the compamy (YIMC). I placed an an order with the dealer for the above mentioned parts on 30/01/2012. I had sent an email to the customer service section regarding the availability of the above mentioned spare parts. Beleive me, I received an email within 24 hours confirming the availability. As it is a long time, I phoned the dealer to enquire if the parts have arrived. I was irritated to learn that the order was placed only on the 16/01/2012. This is the level of customer service I received as the bike is in a local workshop and not in an "authorised service center".
          Regards,

                • Engine oil

My bike is due for an oil change, so what would be the recommended oil. Do we need to stick to the grade mentioned in the manual (20w40) and I would appreciate if someone can tell me what type SG means. I am planning to go for the fully synthetic oil.

Obviously the airfilter needs to be cleaned irrespective of what bike You ride. If Your bike has a paper air filter then, remove the airfilter from the bike, tap it gently to loosen the dirt and blow compressed air from inside. If it has a foam air filter then it needs to washed with solvent and allowed to dry and then apply 2t oil before installing.

You will have to change ur jets tto account for the increase in air flow. Otherwise ur bike will run too lean.

You can use a vacuum cleaner to remove the dirt from the filter element or reverse the vacuum cleaner and blow air from inside. If the air filter is too dirty it needs to be replaced. There is a DIY on this forum someone has changed the paper filter to a foam one, which can be reused unlike paper air filters. There is no stock replacement k&n air filters for gladiator, the only option is to use universal air filter which will make more air sucked and it will inturn make the air fuel mixture lean. So You might have to upjet or tune the carb, which will inturn drop the mileage. K&n air filters doesn't do any good to gladiator(my personal opinion). I have myself used the k&n earlier on the gladi, didn't like the loud intake note. Later switched back to the stock one.

                              Hi All @ this forum!

I got myself a used 2008 Gladiator RS last weekend which had clocked around 27000kms. A short review:

Although the body was shining as new, the engine was in a pathetic state when I bought it. Got a full service including a change of air filters, Castrol Power1 15W40 lube (thanks to advice from some members here on xBHP) and the works.

Have covered 1000 Kms over the last week, here are my impressions:
                              1. Top speed: 95kph with my payload (I weigh just short of 90kgs)
                              2. Mileage: Before service: 31 KpL | After service: 43 KpL

                              Pros:
Comfort, seating posture, power, handling, reliability

                              Cons:
                              Nothing much really.

Looking forward to being a part of this community.

Oh, and if you are wondering - I am based in Bangalore.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

I have a foam filter in my bike too. Much easier to clean especially if you live in a dusty area like me. There is no difference in the power. If I'm not wrong the older gladiators had a foam filter.

I second that. It wont do much good. Plus you'll need a good mechanic to get the air/fuel mixture just right. Even i had plans of putting a k&n long back but my mechanic advised me against it.
